Adding a Fishman full circle to Yamaha SLB 100
Mr Bassman replied to mickcope's topic in EUB and Double Bass
If you've got the jazz bridge it's dead easy to fit a full circle and will be a big improvement on the Yamaha pup. If yours is the earlier chunkier bridge with wooden adjusters you'll have to modify the bridge or replace it. I've experimented with loads of pups & strings on the Yammys and settled on a Shadow SH950 Dave Swift has gone back to using Yamaha Silent basses, he used full circles a few years ago but I think he now uses Wilsons -

I went to check out a new venue on the outskirts of York where our very own geoffbassist was shining with the Karl Mullen Trio. It's the Red Lion, Upper Poppleton, York YO26 6PR The function room is perfect as a jazz venue, seats about 60 max so it's nice & intimate. There's a digital piano, p.a. & lights. Timothy Taylor Landlord Bitter, huge car park, friendly staff & clean toilets! Next Thursday 16th Oct I'm on bass duties with vocalist Jenny Smith.

Fishman Full Circle on a Yamaha SLB200
Mr Bassman replied to Sumbabba's topic in EUB and Double Bass
Take off the string retainer (the securing nut is quite tight) and mount the jack across the tailpiece with cable ties or rubber bands as you would with an Underwood, or get a jack clamp from Roger (bassace). I've done it both ways on a 200, the clamp is probably the best solution. -
I've got a Stentor student which sounds great, amplifies well, is an easy carry and was inexpensive. Not tried a Zeller http://youtu.be/4DFlTWfYF1A

Thanks for reply BB I too removed the back cover. I've made a short pin for playing seated, if I need to use the long pin for standing I'll just wedge a piece of card around the end.

Any Mo Clifton EUB owners experienced rattling endpins? It's a great bass but the endpin rattles which is annoying. I spoke to Mo about it and he suggested the steel rod could be shortened, but rather than cut the original I bought a length of 10mm rod to experiment with. As I play many gigs seated a shortened pin is no problem but if I use a longer one for standing it creaks & rattles inside the body. I've tried packing with card, which requires removing the cover strip, wrapping tape around the end and applying shrink-wrap which makes it difficult to adjust the length due to friction. Any ideas/ solutions?

Looking at getting a new (read cheap/used) bass - help
Mr Bassman replied to bassfunk's topic in EUB and Double Bass
I've owned over 20 uprights & EUB's over the years, currently I've got 4 double basses and 2 EUB's As an experiment in portability I aquired a 1/2 size Antoni last year. Although it sounded good for a small instrument the neck was way too skinny for me so I sold it on to a friend who loves it. After researching other smaller options I came across this demo video by bass chatter hubrad. I found a used one, it needed some setting up but it sounds great acoustic or amplified with a Bassmax and it fits in the side door of my car standing up! Thanks Hugh I'll bring it to the bash with a couple of others for comparison. -
