Thought I'd stick my neck out with this. I bought it new in the late 70's It's seen some action and could do with some t.l.c. I had it converted to five string some years ago but it would be easy enough to return it to four with some filler and a new nut. It could be a good project instrument for someone with the necessary skills, or maybe just a piece of wal art.

Last call for tonights gig If you've not seen Jon before he's a real character He plays soulful tenor sax, blues harp, accordion, soprano sax and sings Plus the dream team Andy Cholerton piano Rich Jevons guitar Keith Jevons bass Caroline Boaden drums Onstage 8.30pm

I've got this bass set up much better now. It sounds good and is quite loud. However, much as I'd like to keep it the neck is too skinny for me. I'm not sure if I can still return it so my other options are putting a shim under the fingerboard to fatten her up, or let someone else have the benefit. If anyone is at all interested in seeing / playing it let me know.

I've never found a bassmax to be honky

Yamaha SLB200 EUB Spike won't tighten
Mr Bassman replied to Michael Currie's topic in Repairs and Technical
Common fault on those basses I think its a 6m thread Dont bother with Yamaha replacement, very expensive Try a drum store or hardware shop Buy a 5/8" hose clamp and fit that to your end pin at your preferred height, then don't overtighten your new screw. A rubber O ring or grommet between the hose clamp and bass should dampen any squeaks etc The hose clamp will get you by until you find a new screw as long as you dont move the bass around too much, or the pin will just drop out, unless you wedge a bit of paper around the end pin where it fits into the body. -
Thanks for the review

Thanks Hector, I dug it and stayed up late watching more Neal Miner Youtube
Hello Keith, Yeah nice cab isn't it? I am looking to add another one to it - preferably the S10-XD, if you ever hear of anything let me know although there doesnt seem to be a lot of it about or not that I can find anyway. Hope you are keeping well.
I think you just missed one at bassgear, there's another 15" available why not put a wanted ad up on here

Hi Tom, I know your cab well, I've played through it at your Dad's house a few times and maybe on a gig. I like it. I had a SWR Baby Blue Monitor a few years ago which had 2 x 8" Bag End drivers and that was a great cab, wish I'd kept it. cheers Keith

NOW can I call myself a double bass player? ;)
Mr Bassman replied to Bilbo's topic in EUB and Double Bass
Nice work Bilbo -
Sounds like you already got an ideal setup

Thanks Clarky looking forward to it with some of my fave players

As you know I'm obsessed with EUB's and knowing from experience what great sounds can be achieved from the Kolstein / Eminence and some solid bodied EUB's I decided to experiment with the 1/2 size. Pop in if you're passing and see what you think. The hand issue is ongoing from an injury 2 years ago which makes it difficult to clench my fist so thin necks aren't ideal for me. I bought this unseen and it's of the skinny variety so I've got to decide whether to fit a 6mm shim under the fingerboard, or move it on as is and look for one with a chunky neck (if they exist) As for the Brasserie this would be better than taking your normal bass but I insist on standing on the floor or using EUB if I have to sit on that poky stage.

thanks I can't quite get the hair right tho!

Looks like we've found a new venue for Harrogate Jazz & Blues so time to get back into fundraising mode. Here's a link to some great double bass players CDs which if you buy one or two would help towards advertising costs etc. Thanks in advance http://basschat.co.uk/topic/202730-fundraiser-jazz-double-bass-cds-for-sale/

Yeh, it's very light, an easy one hand carry in its gig bag. I agree about the lack of set up and crap strings supplied. In fact the E string broke at the tailpiece the first time I tuned it up. Now it's got some decent strings it sounds slightly quieter than a 3/4 acoustically but no different amplified.
