Nice review. I ended up buying the Motown DI after looking into both the Noble and the Reddi. Aside from the price which is crazy (for all 3), I personally wasn't into the sound of the Noble, to me it sounds a bit over-hyped, like a modern take on a vintage tone, and all the tracks and demos I've heard it on feature bassists who like a precision / flats kind of tone, but the recordings in context sound 100% modern in terms of production, and I think that's what the Noble excels at, a vintage-ish tone that fits in with modern production and over-processed drums especially. In my head vintage bass tone is Jamerson-esque, (or Paul Jackson-esque) and in that context drums don't sound like compressed explosions with loads of treble, they sound like Clyde Stubblefield / Mike Clark etc. When Sean Hurley demos the Noble, it's interesting that the tracks he plays on feature heavily processed drums and samples that sound like it's 2016, there's not much that's particularly old school about the context. Same with the tracks above, the bass tone needs to fit in with the pristine and over-hyped drums. It's a modern sound, not an old school sound. It's a matter of taste and opinion, and most current studio engineers can't help themselves when it comes to production, they like to make everything as bright and loud and bass-heavy as possible, regardless of the style... I personally don't like the sound of recorded drums on anything that was made after about 1979 but then I used to be obsessed with drum breaks before playing bass so I guess my ears are just tuned into a more old school drum sound, and I like my bass tone to fit in with that.
Having spent some more time with Noble I'm inclined to agree with your view. It's a more modern sound but vintages in a tube way. I'm trying to work out if I want something more coloured or not.

Gotcha! Really pleased with the sound at practice. Gigging it next Saturday. Would appear to be a real bargain.
So sk8.... How's the little black box working out for ya?
So...... I've had done time with the noble now and gigged it once although that was in church and not my covers band. First thought when I used it through phones was that it's more transparent than I thought it would be. It doesn't colour your tone per se. I've done some A/B tests switching between my signal as is and through the noble. The Noble doesnt drastically change the tone but there is 'something' there. I also put a boost in front and got a quite nice OD sound. I'm favouring using the bass cut switch and adding some bass back in to about 11 o'clock. The eq is more powerful than you think and set flat in the A/B test it was hard to here that anything had changed. Cutting and boosting the bass brought more of an edge to the sound. I could see that with IEMs this would be a great tool and for travelling light. Hoping to use it next week with my covers band. Conclusions so far It's well built It does add something but doesn't heavily couloir your instrument. The power supply is a nice touch for powering the board. Now I don't DI a huge amount or use in ears and my main amp at the moment is all valve but heavy so I don't need the valve sound. I will try it in front of my AER Amp One at some point to see if it valves it up.

Yeah. Looks well thought out. Time will tell if it sounds any good!

Great review. Can't wait to get my mitts on mine!

Got a Noble DI coming in and need to shift some gear to cover the costs. Bought this to use in my dual rig. Great head with built in powersoak and Redbox DI. Three channels so can go from clean crunch to screaming leads. Inslcudes H&K Footswitch althouhg this appears temperamental (think lead a bit dodgy). Comes with padded carry bag and mains lead. This one has the NOS sovtek power tubes. Got a Noble incoming so need to raise some money to offset against it! Great preamp that I have used with both my Piezo Godin and Electric basses. Comes with Tuner, Comp and boost and a very good EQ. Equally at home with other instruments and the EQ can be switched between Guitar and Bass. !0meg Ohm input so works really well with Piezos. Seen good reviews form Double bass users. Details here Boxed and in very good condition. Looking for £180 posted in mainland uk Will get photos up later

Originally bought this to power my board and Radial Bassbone OD. Don't have the Bassbone any more and everything else I have is 9 volt plus I have a Noble Inbound so this needs to go to fund that. Details here Great quiet supply and excellent for powering digital pedals due to the isolation. Comes with all cables and box plus I have a longer mains cable I will include as well as the original. Looking for £135 Delivered in mainland UK Will get photos up later.

I had a dual set up and used en EHX Switchblade+. Great little pedal that allowed me to have either the Bass or Guitar rig solo'd or both together. Cheap and cheerful

Just picked one of these up. Hoping it will end my Pre hunt!

Okay so some more time with this amp today at home. Interesting observation (at least for me!). It would appear when using the master volume on the back the amp overdrives easier. Bypassing it and just using the gain on one has a much cleaner sound for the same input. Practice Sunday so will get a better idea of this new found info.
Sounds like you found a winner here, fella, nice one.
Yeah fingers crossed!
The good news is that bugeras seem either to fail early, or carry on running... One of my guitards is very happy with his...
If it lasts I might retube it with something decent

Gives my rhythm octave up to fill out solid, bass dirt and synthy octave

had some more time with this head yesterday, albeit at home and not in a band/gig scenario. My main aim was to work out how to get a DI 'out of it'. In the end using an isolator xlr John @ Orchid Electronics made me on the effects loop send with the -10db switch selected provided a nice sound to my little desk. The Orchid classic DI elicited the same results. Although not tapping the output tubes its got enough tube vibe for the minimal times I need to DI. I can always DI off my board pre amp but wanted to tap into the valve loveliness! I also put some effects through it and they sounded mighty nice, mainly dirt and octave. I also played with the gain, admittedly I didn't get round to trying it in the low input but Channel 2 high gets dirty, very quickly after 5

Not sure if this is appropriate here but thought I would give my thoughts on the Fishman Platinum Pro EQ DI. I don't play Double bass but I do use a Godin A4 Ultra with piezo bridge and i've found the fishman to be a fantastic tool. The 10 Meg Ohm input really tames the piezo honk and the compressor is surprisingly useful and effective for something with one knob. EQ is great and the Low cut is a massive help as is the parametric mid plus brilliance great for getting rid of string squeek! Phase and notch can be an essential depending on the gig. Tuner accurate and the boost is an nice addition. I've been using it on my electric basses too. Worth checking out if you have Piezo pick ups

You get a three year warranty in theory.......
I'm interested in one of these, Overhang looks to be an issue.
Not if you have a big enough cab!
Sorry to burst the bubble a bit here but back in 2012 our guitarist bought 2 off these for our Deep Purple tribute band and both failed in same way. Lost the volume after a lot of weird crackling od noises. They both went within a few weeks of each other while being used in rehearsal studios. We weren't too impressed with them altho the tone from them was pretty impressive for such a cheap amp. He sent them back, got full refund and then bought himself a 2nd hand Marshall head of some model i can't really remember now. Hope yours is a lot better. Certainly looks good with the chilli cab and from your feedback sounds good too. I'm looking forward to updates on it. Dave
At this price point failure is always an issue Just over £300 for an all valve amp is insane!

Fantastic little blend pedal. Essentially allows you to put anything in the loop and decide how much clean to mix in with the dirt or whatever is in the loop.
