Yes, that's what it does? Guy you quoted was talking about it switching voices mid song, which I agree would not really be necessary.
Noted. I read it differently
i think they missed a trick on being able to switch from vintage microtubes to B3K engines via the foot switch, that would have been ace. I would have been sold at that.
Agreed. I want to be able to switch the distortion in and out not the amp voicing. I would select the amp voicing for a particular song but having the ability to switch the distortion on and off for the win
I did my first proper gig with it on Saturday and ran it through my Barefaced One10. It was a gig I knew wouldn't need my TKS volume-wise. Even so, when I first plugged in I noticed a lot of overblown bass from the One10 direct on a wooden floor. 30 seconds of adjusting the 2 tone controls and I'd found a sound that I didn't need to change all night. I'd dialled in a little of the HPF setting on the Deep control and left the contour flat. I set the gain around at 7.5 (all controls are notched) and the tone was full and rich but still detailed. One more notch on the gain and I would have been in break-up territory but, as it was, I had a harmonic rich vintage tone. Our keyboard player kept looking round to express his appreciation and disbelief that the sound was coming from such a small package. As far as the limiters (there are 2) there doesn't appear to be any restraint of the signal. The low end, in particular, sounds free and effortless and the "thickness" seems to come from added harmonics similar to how the Basswitch Sonic Spark works. Here's a technical explanation from Pat Quilter, http://www.quilterlabs.com/index.php/products/bassblock-amplifiers/bass-block-in-depth
Previous Class D amps I've had seemed light on 'heft'. They just didn't seem as full and round as A/B amps I'd owned. Can you comment on the Bass Block in this sense?

Bugger, this looks like a really good fit for what I want in a bass amp. Class D that doesn't sound class D
My report after 2 nights of testing. 1st night. Blues Jam where I provided the backline with the BB800 going into my Barefaced One10. This was as much a test of the One10 for me and both amp and cab came through with honours. I used the Bass Block mostly with the EQ set flat and this was perfect for the One10 on the night. A warm, full but detailed sound that sat with the band well (I sat out front while others used it at first). It was competing with 2 guitarists using Blues/ProJuniors flat out and fairly loud drummers and coped well volume-wise set with the gain halfway and the master set around 600watts (I was using just the 8 ohm cab so 300-ish) Alex at Barefaced says that the cab can take up to 500 watts if set clean and there was plenty left on the gain. 2nd night. Band rehearsal with one TKS1126. I had more of a frame of reference for this, the room being notorious but familiar. Guitarist using home made valve amp and 4x12 cab and keyboard using a QSC K12. I started with the EQ flat and the sound wasn't too bloomy in the lows as I have had before with this cab in this room and the bass sounded full, present and clear but not too forward in this mid hungry room. Moving the Deep control to the left activates the HPF and this is where the amp is perfect for this particular cab. Still full but the mids now shone through. In summary, not as "old school vintage" as my Markbass TTE801 but anything but sterile and mild mannered. The sound does seem to get thicker on the higher gain settings with a little break up in the 8-10 range but I kept it around 5-6 mostly which was full enough with plenty of oomph and headroom to spare. A very classy piece of kit with Pat Quilter's very strong reputation for reliability.
Wondering whether the thickness at higher gain settings has something to do with the built in limiter.
