Cabs 210 / 212 / 112 - light weight, portable, Powerful and Quality!
sk8 replied to JamesFlashG's topic in Amps and Cabs
Me and the other bassist both had a shuttle 6.0 head, and he had 2 1x12 cabs set up already so we agreed that we might as well just use his cabs but with our own heads so we stacked them up, as soon as I tried it I knew it was struggling (might be why you thought the genz was short on power?) My shuttle 3.0 with my own cabs would have blown it away! Maybe they were a duff pair or something but you know how it is once you have first hand experience of something not working how you want.
My observations on the shuttle are based on using GB cabs. I git rid of my 6 and 3 long before I had the chilis -
I'm not sure what the exact models were but same room, same head, same bass and the difference was massive, it still remains the highest I have needed to put the output on my shuttle six and it was a tiny room. I thought maybe a 2x12 might be better than two 1x12s but the experts here say not.
Very interesting as i get massive volume out of mine. even with my TC BH250. Always felt my shuttle 6.0 was light on watts IMO I've managed to fill an auditorium with one cab and a promethean head at mofat -
I did a direct comparison with a pair of purple chilli 1x12 to my genz 2x12T , the drop in volume and clarity when I used the purple ones was epic, the owner put them for sale on this site the day after
interesting as i've owned both and found the chili's as good if not better. I do have the Specials though with the added bass trap horses for courses -
when we have to pay to advertise anyway?

Great little head that is on its money watts wise IMO. With a 4ohm load quite giggable. Very versatile practice amp with Aux in, Phones out, built in tuner. Toneprint is extremely cool and with the included footswitch you can mute, switch toneprint on and off and switch between two toneprints. Box, instruction, cables and 3 switch. details here £220 inc P&P Only trades in interested in are for a LM3

give Mike at Purple Chili a shout . he's in your neck of the woods -
I appreciate you may not have tried it, but do you reckon there is much merit in having both a Box of War and the tri on one board? I love muff and the fact you said it's good with bass an has an overdriven tone when turned down has caught my attention
Well of course I'm going to say yes Seriously yes I do because at lower gain settings there is something very musical about it. I've been toying with having it and my green muff clone on the board as they yield different sounds and turned down he tri does get into OD territory but still retains its fuzziness if that makes sense?!!!
I have taken the plunge and gone all valve. I thought I might as well try a valve amp while I am still young enough to lug one around, so here it is, a Fender Bassman 100T. A brief summary of my first impressions:

It is big
It is heavy
It sounds amazing and it is surprisingly easy to get a range of sounds out of it.
What initially attracted me to the 100T was the ability to switch the output from 100W to 25W and it is the latter that I have been mostly playing around with, getting nice overdriven tones at respectable volumes at home. 100W will have to wait until band practice next week, but even then I might end up settling for 25W as I play in a country band with fiddle and blues harp. The separate vintage and overdrive channels are fun to play with and I am not sure which one I will settle for. The vintage channel offers a traditional Fender tone stack and is nicely beefy, whereas the overdrive far more control than its name suggests. The only problem I have now is working out what to pair it with. Previously I have been playing through an orange SP212, but the head is far wider and looks a bit strange sat on top. I have a Barefaced Midget on the way, but the combination, while probably being good acoustically, will look ridiculous. I am tempted by the Fender Neo 410, but I don't really need a 410. Would two midgets sat side-by-side work well?
Any updates on using this in anger?!!
