Wow, what a steal! I bought mine new and still felt like it was a bargain! Enjoy.

I bought one several months ago and have been blown away by it, especially at the price point! It has been my main gigging bass since I got it. Having owned numerous Yamaha basses in the past, this is exactly what you'd expect, and although I never owned a 42x series, this seems like quite a step up from the 41x/61x series. The neck profile is sublime, and the pickups are what really steps it up for me, they're incredible! Well, they're basically the same as on the P35 and 735, so they should be good! Hope you enjoy it as much as I have!

Yeah it was the original quilt top one with the jack socket recessed into the back on an angle. Couldn't actually weigh it as it was in a shop, but felt like it was around 50kg π Played one of the slightly newer style ones too, which wasn't as heavy but still pretty hefty! Lovely instruments in all other ways though.

Same style as my BBN5, which is also very light. Ironically the couple of NE sig models I've tried from this era were super heavy though!

That's kinda what I thought when I bought my 435, but honestly I have no idea to change them, they sound superb! And they're essentially the same as the pickups in the 735 and P35. If I did a lot of studio work, I'd probably change the J for something hum-cancelling, but that's the only reason I'd change anything.

Personally, I've found the new alnico V pickups in my 435 to be a marked improvement over the ones in the 414 and 614 I used to have. Warmer and more organic, but plenty of output and great representation across the tonal spectrum. Sounds great IMHO!

I've used super brights on my 5 strings for years and found them great. I was using the steel 40 - 120 on my Sandbergs, but I've found the nickel 45-125 work better on my BB435

Would definitely be better if it matched. And if they offered a maple board on the fiver!

Played at a local venue last week, and they had a pro photographer in. He got some rather nice shots of my BB435. ππ

If you're loving the 414, a 434 would be worth checking out! I have a 435 and it's blown me away in terms of feel and tone, I think they've really stepped it up on the new range! The pickups are essentially the same as in the high end models, the only real difference is the body construction (although it's solid Alder which is pretty standard), and the bridge is BBOT style, but I've had no issues with it. Highly recommended!

More or less! The country of manufacture is different I think, and the NE2 is obviously the Nathan sig, so I guess that bumps the price up a bit. We had a 2005 on the shop I worked on years ago, and it was awesome, bit out of my price range at the time!

Oh really?! I'll have to have a look! What do you mean by different label?
