  1. Interesting! And I get where you're coming from, it makes sense why a slightly 'fuller' feeling neck would suit you better. It does also mean that the new necks will probably fit me perfectly, because my LH technique is the polar opposite to yours! πŸ˜‚
  2. I'm still agonising over which model would be best suited to me... I'm chasing a more traditional vibe at the moment (but in a 5 string format!). From the videos I've watched, the 700 and P series sound a bit more.... Modern to my ears, I'm assuming because of the fillet of maple in the middle. This makes me wonder if the 400 would be best for me, with its more conventional solid alder body... Plus the 400 seems to be lighter than the two higher ranges, again presumably due to the maple. But I know the P35 would be best quality and probably feel nicest.... .... Plus the 400 is cheaper! 😜 Decisions, decisions! πŸ€”
  3. Saw a video with him playing the 734a, don't know if that's what he normally plays though
  4. PM'd you last night dude. πŸ˜ŠπŸ‘
  5. Sorry, its just too good, just got a 1x15 to go with it and it's incredible! πŸ˜πŸ‘Œ
  6. Think I might just be going to the show actually, just checked and its gonna be nearly 4hrs each way for me on Saturday..... 😬
  7. Thanks guys, maybe best to check Wunjo's out too!
  8. Mainly just hoping to try a 435, 735a, and P35 (I've seen a nice used examples of the last two for sale πŸ˜‰)
  9. Looks like less than a half hour trip each way to the Yamaha store from the venue.... Can't stop looking at BB's, but can't decide which one would suit my needs best. Might well be worth doing! Does anyone know if they stock the whole range?
  10. YES! πŸ˜…πŸ˜ Weirdly though, I'm finding myself wanting to move away from lovely boutique gear towards more meat and potatoes stuff. I'm kind of rediscovering what I like and don't like recently, and learning a lot of things I thought I had figured out years ago! After playing active, modern basses for the past 10 years or so, I've recently discovered that actually I like passive basses best, especially in a band mix! And also my amp changes, experimentation recently: there's something going on with me at the moment about 'perfect imperfection' that is giving me the bass sound I want to hear right now.
  11. Honestly at the moment, I'm leaning towards having one main bass and a backup, that's it. I'm also having somewhat of a gear/midlife crisis at the moment! πŸ˜‚
  12. Wish my 5 was black instead of brown stain.... Still may refinish it though
  13. I've just been playing my BBN5ii too, astonishingly good really! I used it at band practice on Wednesday and it sounded fab through my Rumble 500. πŸ‘Œ
  14. Was really hoping that Yamaha would be at the guitar /bass show next weekend, but it doesn't look like they are.... Wondering if it's worth trekking across to the Yamaha store when I'm in town next Saturday to try the whole range out! πŸ€”
  15. That's absolutely right, and in fact all SL models from here on in will be Paulownia, they have ceased using Cedar.
  16. Thanks very much for the info, very helpful!
  17. The woods in the super light models are lower density, and that is according to sandberg themselves. It's how these models are so lightweight, and why they can't offer high gloss finishes, because the paint just won't take to the wood well due to the low density.
  18. Thanks for the info @jrixn1, very helpful! I'm really digging a kinda more traditional sound at the moment, so I'm not sure this is going to be right for me, as much as I'd like it to be! I was considering asking them if they'd do a VT5 passive SL..... Could be cool!
  19. Hi folks! Just wondered if anyone here has played or owns a sandberg super light bass, specifically a 5 string if possible. I'm really tempted to order one, but I'm just wondering if the lower density woods used would result in less low-end thump, and there's potential for it to sound a bit gutless, especially the B string.... Any opinions much appreciated! Thanks πŸ˜ŠπŸ‘
  20. That's quite interesting, I've not played one of the newest series, but they've been touting them as having thinner necks than the previous series.
  21. Hi folks! I've not had this amp long, and whilst it's bloody fantastic, it's not quite for me. It's in superb condition, and comes with a thickly padded vinyl Hotcovers cover (not originally for this combo, but fits pretty well). Most people seem to know all about these anyway, but for those who don't, it's a seriously good sounding, loud combo, that belies its compact and lightweight form. 500w class D amplifier section (350w standalone without an 8 ohm ext. Cab), 2x10" custom designed eminence drivers and a switchable horn, eq pre-shapes, drive channel (footswitchable), 4 band eq section, and all the ins and outs you might need. I have to say, I've been absolutely staggered by the quality of sound and volume that this thing produces! Incredible bottom end for a combo this size (beats the pants off the Markbass 2x10 combo I used to have), and ample volume for the vast majority of pub /club /function gigs. Our rock covers band is pretty damn loud, both guitarists have VERY loud valve amps, and I don't think I got the volume above halfway on the two gigs I used it on! Couple it up to another cab, and you've got a full 500w! I'm in Hereford, which isn't known for its great transport links, but I'm happy to meet within a reasonable distance. I'd prefer not to ship as it'll be a PITA to package, but it's not entirely out of the question. Will be in London area on Saturday 21st for the bass show if that helps anyone. Thanks for looking, and any questions, please get in touch. πŸ˜ŠπŸ‘
  22. Well, I've booked a ticket for Saturday and looking forward to it, just need to figure out how best to get there now! πŸ˜‚ I'd also best get practicing some low quality power slap for trying basses out. πŸ˜‰πŸ‘Œ (joking, obvs)
  23. Thanks for the tip off! Sunburst unfortunately..... Not really a sunburst kinda guy.....
  24. I think what he was getting at is he wasn't always unplugging it because he didn't realise, but even after he started unplugging it every time, he is only getting 8 months out of it.
  25. Active basses usually use the input jack to activate the preamp (I. E. When the jack is plugged in, the battery circuit is made and the preamp activates), therefore whenever the cable is plugged in the battery will be draining, even in passive mode. At least you know passive mode works without a battery, so even if it does mid gig you can carry on playing in passive mode. Not all active preamps are like this, sometimes 'passive mode' isn't a true bypass of the preamp, and it won't work without a battery.
