  1. It's your P35 I keep looking at! 😂😍 But even used, they're more than double the price of a brand new 435. They look fantastic, and I fully appreciate japanese quality, but just wondering in real terms what the differences are like. Plus the weight.... I notice your P35 is pretty heavy - was wondering if the 435 is lighter due to not having a wedge of maple in the middle? You're right, going to a stockist to try them both would be best, but not sure if there would be anywhere relatively close to me...
  2. I'll be gigging it for the first time tonight, but : 1) these 10" speakers seem to produce an absurd amount of bottom end! You can dial it back, but it's definitely there! 2) it's unbelivably compact and light, can't remember what the actual specs are offhand, something like 16kg (which I think is less than the Rumble 2x10 cab on its own!) I have two loud guitarists and a loud drummer, so will report back after tonight's gig. 👍
  3. ALSO has anyone had chance to try a 435 and P35? Are the differences in build /playability /tone proportionate to the price difference? Ta, 😁👍
  4. G'day folks, can anyone advise on the weight of a 435? Seriously tempted to get one, unless it's mega heavy. Many thanks
  5. This is great testimony Jack, sounds like it's worked really well for you! Hoping it'll be sufficient for the pub gigs we do. 😊👍
  6. I'm gigging it for the first time tomorrow night, but from practicing at home this past week, I've found that I'm not that keen on the preset buttons, and prefer to just use the eq (which incidentally seems to sound just great with everything at 12,or only minor deviations). I agree that it seems to be pretty bass heavy, very much looking forward to trying it out properly tomorrow though!
  7. Whilst we're talking about the F word, why don't they do a 5 string PJ?
  8. Thanks Al, very useful! Really preferring passive tones at the moment, so I think the 435 would be fine for me (when I can afford one....). Meant to ask before, have they managed to shed any weight for the 3 series?
  9. Hey BB fans! I realise in advance that this is probably a bit of a dumb question, but.... The 434/435 have a split coil neck pickup; do they do a pretty good approximation of a F%@#$r Precision with the neck pickup soloed, or do they somehow quite different? Thanks Also, I SOOOOOO wish they did the 435 with a maple board too! 😞
  10. Thanks very much, will check it out! 😊👍
  11. All time dependant really Al, have a kitchen to finish, benches to make, various other DIY things which have to take priority at the moment! Not sure about the pickguard yet, think it'll be a PITA to make... Maybe do the refinish and knobs first, then see how I feel about it.
  12. Scored a BBN5 for very little not long ago, in very good nick! Bought as a backup /practice bass, but it is fantastic, I really love this era of BB's. Planning to refinish in a teal/turquoise stain, make a cream jazz bass style scratchplate, and change the knobs for cream speed knobs. Thought I was going to change pickups, but they sound superb, pretty hot too!
  13. Fantastic, thanks Ed, sounds interesting! 👍
  14. Seems like a great idea Ed! May have to ask where you got the handles if this ends up being a winner! 😊👍
  15. Thanks Ed, hopefully it will stand the test with my (loud) band! That's an interesting idea with the handles, did you have to rout the sides out to fit them? I think it seems a fairly easy lift with the top handle, but we'll see when I've done a few load ins/outs! Can't wait to try it out!
  16. New amp day yesterday! We'll see how it performs on a gig next Saturday, but impressed with the quick go I had last night! WOW its loud and so much bottom end for a 2x10 combo! Hoping I can get away without adding another cab, but it's not the end of the world if I have to. 😊👍 Anyone have any tips /advice for getting the best out of these? Recommended settings etc? Many thanks.
  17. Thanks all, some good advice. For the price of the mighty mite/all parts bits though, it'd probably be easier /more cost effective to just buy a suitable donor /project bass and pimp it.
  18. Hi folks, Just wondered if anyone has tried a kit/parts build, and how it turned out? I want something decent quality, was looking at guitarbuild.co.uk, but not sure if they're better than the budget kits or not (my impression is that they probably are). Thanks for any advice. 😊👍
  19. I know it's not a purists P bass, but I am SERIOUSLY lusting after this Ltd edition American Pro at the moment! Roasted maple, Daphne blue, stacked vol/tone for each pickup.... 🤤
  20. Maybe... More on the PJ vibe at the moment though, best of both. Hence eyeing up the American performer P....
  21. It's taking a bit of getting used to, because I do utilise the B string quite a bit for ease of positioning etc, and the odd dropped D song we do, but I'm surprised how easily I've adapted. Kinda makes me wish I hadn't so hastily sold my ol' faithful jazz all those years ago....
  22. Nor me! Loving it so far though, they've really created a great bass at this price point, sounds and feels lovely!
  23. No.... In a completely out of character move, I made a snap decision to buy a Fender Player Jaguar! Gigged it for the first time Saturday night, and I was blown away by how fun it was to play and also how well it fitted with my band! (rock covers). The first 4 string and first passive bass I've had for nearly 10 years.... And it's got a lot of what I've been looking for. Seems to be a more organic, 'full' time from a passive instrument. Don't get me wrong, I still love my two Sandbergs, fantastic instruments.... In fact I've been in touch to ask if they could do a passive PJ, with kind of traditional style pickups! 🤣 Also been eyeing up the American Performer Precision though.... 😍
