Thanks all, some good advice. For the price of the mighty mite/all parts bits though, it'd probably be easier /more cost effective to just buy a suitable donor /project bass and pimp it.

Hi folks, Just wondered if anyone has tried a kit/parts build, and how it turned out? I want something decent quality, was looking at guitarbuild.co.uk, but not sure if they're better than the budget kits or not (my impression is that they probably are). Thanks for any advice. 😊👍

I know it's not a purists P bass, but I am SERIOUSLY lusting after this Ltd edition American Pro at the moment! Roasted maple, Daphne blue, stacked vol/tone for each pickup.... 🤤

It's taking a bit of getting used to, because I do utilise the B string quite a bit for ease of positioning etc, and the odd dropped D song we do, but I'm surprised how easily I've adapted. Kinda makes me wish I hadn't so hastily sold my ol' faithful jazz all those years ago....

No.... In a completely out of character move, I made a snap decision to buy a Fender Player Jaguar! Gigged it for the first time Saturday night, and I was blown away by how fun it was to play and also how well it fitted with my band! (rock covers). The first 4 string and first passive bass I've had for nearly 10 years.... And it's got a lot of what I've been looking for. Seems to be a more organic, 'full' time from a passive instrument. Don't get me wrong, I still love my two Sandbergs, fantastic instruments.... In fact I've been in touch to ask if they could do a passive PJ, with kind of traditional style pickups! 🤣 Also been eyeing up the American Performer Precision though.... 😍

Although I would still love one, I've come to my senses now and realised it couldn't replace my current rig. So, I'm back on looking at basses now! 🤣

My impression is that both series are very good, but I'd like to know a bit more. I have experience with both brands, but would like to know about these specific models. Many thanks all.

Thanks all for your input, I think I might go wild and buy it anyway, but not view it as a replacement for my main rig.... Not yet anyway! Will be useful for rehearsals and small gigs.

Yeah I was thinking that, even if I leave it at our rehearsal space it saves me taking my rig out there every week. Do you find it's man enough on its own, without an extension cab?

Hey everybody! So, I currently have an AWESOME rig consisting of an Aguilar AG700 and a Vanderkley 2x12, but for some reason right now I really want a Rumble 500 combo (probably with an ext. Cab).... ..... Am I nuts?! The attraction is that the combo would be smaller and more portable for practice and small pubs, there's a built in drive channel, they look freaking cool, and I could free up a bit of cash that's tied up in my current rig. There's a bloke not far away selling one of the combos, but can't decide what I should do.... Any experiences /thoughts /opinions welcome.

Duff McKagan for me, GnR and Duff's sound and style were hugely influential on me as a young bass player, and to this day I still love that crisp, bright, punchy sound of stainless roundwounds. I guess Rotosound formed a huge part of THAT sound that I love too!

Hi folks! Not sure if this is the right place to post this, but let me know if not. I have recently acquired a very tidy Yamaha BBN5 as a project bass that I want to refinish, and was hoping for a bit of advice from those moor experienced in these sort of things..... 1) should I strip the old finish off completely, back to the wood, and then coat with sanding sealer before painting, or just abrade the existing finish and paying over the top? Existing finish is a kind of brown stain, doesn't look too thick. 2) I want a matte or satin finish over the colour (which is a metallic car paint): should I be looking at polyurethane, nitrocellulose or something else? 3) not sure if I need a base coat under the main colour, but I guess it would be better. AxesRus only seem to have budget blend pots unfortunately, no CTS or Bourns....

Thanks, an interesting idea! However, I bought this bass after both of my (active) basses went tits-up at Friday's gig, so I'm keen to keep the wiring as simple and uncomplicated as possible! 😂

Very interesting, and I hadn't realised that centred, both pickups are only at 50%, but it makes sense of each extreme is 100% for that pickup. With VVT though, does the dip in output with both pickups at 100% equate to the same thing? Would be easier to go VVT as I can just buy a jazz bass wiring kit!

Hi guys, just bought an old Yamaha BB5N as a backup bass (and for a bit of a project 😁). It's a JJ config. I want to rewire it using better pots, etc (e.g. CTS), and I want a blend pot rather than two volumes. I assumed I want 250k pots for the vol and tone, but I noticed some people use 500k.... which should I be looking at? Also struggling to find a suitable dual blend pot in the UK, can anyone point me in the right direction? Finally, is a 0.47u orange drop cap the best choice?
