If you want a more traditional P bass, you would just go for a California VS. Completely different pickup combo top your TM. Also, if you were to order a new one to order you can specify whatever pickups you like, their black label pickups used on the nighthawk models are supposed to be excellent, less modern and more mid rangy (I've requested these on my new one). A lot of people who want a more traditional sound go for Haussel pickups, but you could choose pretty much whatever. Similarly if you were to buy a used VS, obviously you could switch the stock pickups.

As always, it all comes down to personal preference. For me, it would be a sandberg any day of the week. Not just because the build quality is excellent and they sound superb, but mainly because i know the neck profile and general 'feel ' of the bass will suit me perfectly. This is entirely personal. Fwiw, as great as they are, i think fender basses are grossly overpriced these days, especially the current range, when you look at what quality handbuilt instruments you can get for the same or often less money.

I've only been checking for my area (west Midlands) but currently met office showing light snow all day Thurs, heavy snow all day Fri, and light snow all day Sat. I'm going on Sunday, was planning to drive to Ruislip and get the train in again. Fingers crossed!

Really hoping the weather doesn't cause any travel disruptions for the weekend......

Cool, let us know how you get on! I really wish they did the 435 with a maple board like the 434m....

Hey @M@23, nah not yet, it all depends whether i decide to sell my two current Sandbergs or not. I have a new one incoming in June, and IF I do decide to move on my current two, I'm looking at something like the 435 as a backup bass. Hoping there's one to try somewhere at the LBGS.....
-
Woo hoo! Im coming now! On the Sunday.
-
Thanks Cameron, i think they look better, apparently the neck profile is even nicer, and i especially like that they've now used standard shaped pickups so easier to upgrade if required!
-
Hi folks! Just wondered if anyone here owns or had played the BB435? I think they look great, but struggling to find any decent reviews of them..... Thanks all.
-
wow, quite a difference! I think the MTD one looks like quite a good bet. Decent price and not too bulky.

Oooh, I've just been offered one of those?

Thanks for all the replies guys! I'm kinda more unsure about it now than i was before now though! Kinda thinking if i want to cut down on the bulk of my cases I'd be better just going for 2 gig bags.....
-
Interesting, thanks for the feedback Lozz!

Hi folks, Currently, i take two basses in hard cases to gigs, but I'm curious about these dual gigbags. Couple of questions really: 1) Does the design work in practice? Are they protective enough, and is there any risk of the basses damaging each other? Does anyone here have any experience with these gigbags? 2) Are there any decent ones that aren't horrifically expensive? There's no way I'm shelling out £280 For a Mono one! Thanks guys.

Ah okay, need to fire the pc up at some point then. 🖒

Sorry dude, too used to using that B string these days!

Okay, so i think definitely a Cali VM5, i want something that isn't going to look out of place in any situation really, but also not too dull. Definitely maple fb, and probably dots. Trying to minimise any upgrades, but if i were to go with any of the Matt finishes I'd upgrade to swamp ash, but i kinda feel like I'm leaning more towards high gloss/alder at the moment. Must confess I've been dormant on BC for a while and i can't figure out how to upload any pics, otherwise I'd add some configurator pics!
-
Great basses also, but it's the feel of the Sandberg basses that i love, the necks are just perfect in my hands.
-
Not for me, but very nice nonetheless! Was considering a cali VM5 in similar colours.
-
Very fussy, very specific tastes, and i know from long experience that Sandberg basses fit me perfectly.
-
This is also a good shout! Trouble is i was aiming for the 'one bass to rule them all' type of thing, that could cover everything i need, i think that's why I'm being especially fussy about it
