Hey guys, just wondered if anyone who has had experience of Tecamp gear could tell me a bit about what it's like? Sound, reliability, likes/dislikes, etc, etc. Thanks for your help!
-
Sorry, just realised you haven't seen this 'til this afternoon!
-
Did you get it? I was frantically trying to bid, but my phone was having a funny turn and wouldn't let me! I had been watching it for days. A good price for what appears to be a very tidy example. Hope it's gone to a good home anyway!
I'm running my rig through the neo 212 II and the bottom end is heavy enough for me. Moved from a 15 to 2 x 12's and I am more than happy with the range. It is low end punchy with great mids too. Rich
Sounds good to me Rich! Might have to take a punt on one.....
To save my marriage and keep the neighbours on side, I don't use my big amp at home, but if I get a chance ill try it in Wednesday. The guy I bought the cabs from was running the same setup, and he said the 15 filled out the sound while the 212 gave it its definition if that nakes sense
That's kinda what I find with my Markbass rig, the 2x10" combo is great, but on it's own the bottom end doesn't quite satisfy me. Add the 1x15" extension cab and BOOM! I saw a review of the first series version, and he says it's basically just an MB500 head built into a Neo 212 cab. Sounds good to me! I was looking for a replacement for my Markbass, but I'm wondering if I should just get an MB212-II combo to use for rehearsals and very tight gigs anyway! If it ends up pleasing me enough, maybe I'll sell the Markbass......
I ordered the last one from Soundslive yesterday and will be taking delivery of it Tuesday (I asked them to wait till then to organise delivery). This will be going up against my Hartke LH500 and GK NEO 112 cabs as a possible replacement so will be interested in how it compares. I love the sond of my Hartke & GK cabs, I'm just being lazy and want less to carry and setup at the gigs . Will let you know how I get on once I have gigged it next weekend.
Sorry to bump an old thread, but I just wondered how you got on with this combo in the end?
Hey trboy, I have just got my first gk rig after selling my orange terrorbass. It is amazing! I am running a 1001rbii into a 212 and a 115 (both neo cabs). I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them, love the sound, and the portabity. The MB cab use the same drivers I believe, but no horns and the build quality is not as good. For a bit extra you could get neo cabs, so that would be my recommendation, I don't think you would regret the extra investment. Go for it!
Thanks for the recommendation! Your rig sounds great, but I wouldn't really be gaining anything over my current setup. Out of interest, have you tried running the 2x12" on its own, and if so, how does the bottom end hold up? I believe the MB212 - II combo has the neodymium speakers and also a HF horn, which can be switched off.
I've got the 112. It's excellent, so imagine the 212 will be a brilliant buy.
Hey man, thanks for the feedback. How doyou find it? I have zero experience of gk stuff! I know they're probably different beasts, but how do you find it in comparison to Markbass stuff? Seems ridiculously good value, but I've read that some people have had reliability issues (although I believer that was the original series stuff).

Hey guys, In the mental turmoil of trying to decide whether to change my rig or not, I've noticed the GK MB212 - II. The specs look right, the price is great, but I just wondered if anyone here owns or has any experience of them? Is be grateful to heart any opinions you may have. Thanks
I've got a Markbass LM3 for sale if you're looking for one...
How much?

Thanks for the responses guys! I think I'm torn between a Barefaced Super Twin and head of some sort, or the Markbass CMD121P and NY121P.... The beauty of the Markbass is that i could use just the combo for rehearsals etc, but I can't help feel very drawn to the Barefaced stuff. All that said, after having a measure up tonight, I wouldn't be able to save masses of space, although it would be a bit more compact, but I just don't know whether it would be worth the hassle really.... Why do these things have to be so difficult to decide!
Well if you like your Markbass set-up, why not either get a Little Mark head and two 1x12 cabs, or the set-up I have, the CMD121P combo and the NY121 ext cab. Much smaller/lighter, and still packs a great 500 watt punch. Not cheap, but your current rig on here would nearly fund it.
Also Lozz, how do you find this setup? Plenty of guts and bottom end?

Not sure what I'd get for my current rig, I'll have to do some research.
The Sandberg will never snarl and bite like a proper Musicman, or have a good headstock
I disagree, I think the Sandberg can possibly sound more aggressive (yet maybe more versatile) than a 'ray, but it's just our opinions I guess innit? Personally I like the fact that the headstock isn't just another leo-style headstock.
Or get a sterling ray 34 then, brand name is always going to cost more im affraid even if the item is comparable.
Is it worth paying nearly twice as much just for the name on the headstock?! I guess to some people it would be, but more importantly it's just another factor weigh up when trying choose between the two. If someone really felt that the 'ray was as good as it gets for them and nothing else will touch it, then it's worth it I guess.

Hey guys, just been thinking about changing my rig this week, and I wanted to get some other opinions. I've currently got a Markbass CMD102P 2x10" combo and Traveler 151p 1x15" extension cab, which I've had about 6 years or so. It sounds great and I can't fault it in any way, BUT..... I've got GAS for a compact head and two 1x12" cabs (or a 2x12" if compact enough). The thought of an even more compact rig is appealing, especially because space is limited in some of the venues I play, and just for easier transportation really. I like the fact that I could just use one cab for rehearsals and small gigs too. I know I could just use my combo for this at the moment, but in reality I notice the difference without the 15" there. As far as a new rig goes, I would want to try to keep the cost down if possible, but I want a decent sound. GB shuttle 6.2 plus two focus 1x12" cabs looks a bargain, but I also like the look of the Aguilar TH500 with maybe a Barefaced Super Twin or something? Open to suggestions really, what do you think? The Hartke Hydrive cabs look good vfm too. I would be looking around 500w I guess. Would I be mental to let the Markbass go and massively regret it? You know how gas is.... Thanks for your help.

Just had a quick look on Thomann for comparisons sake, and the cheapest MM 'ray 4 3-band i can see is £1328.64 (most seem to be quite a bit more than this), and the cheapest Basic 4 is £767.10 (although there is a B-stock for £686.05). You could probably add chargeable custom options to a Basic order and still come in a fair bit cheaper than a stock 'ray!

Well I've owned two Sandberg Basic 4's and two Basic Ken Taylor 5's, and I really think they take some beating. The neck feel and overall playability is the main selling point for me, but they sound incredible too! I guess it depends whether you want an exact replication of "that stingray sound" that people get so defensive about, or whether you're just looking for the sound of a MM style humbucker in the sweet spot. For me, the Basics gave as close an approximation of a stingray sound as I would ever need, especially in a band mix, I think you'd have to be incredibly anal abut it to pick holes. The Glockenklang Preamp in the Basic is superb, plenty of adjustment but a very natural sound, and the controls interact very intuitively. The passive mode can be very useful too, and with the preamp set flat there is zero volume difference between active and passive. I think the Sandbergs represent superb value for money too, you can have a Basic handbuilt to your spec for less than an off-the-shelf Stingray. I've tried quite a few Stingrays over the years, and although I really want to like them, there's just something that's not quite right for me. As they say, one man's coq au vin is another man's chicken in a basket! As others have said, the only real way to draw a conclusion is to try both and see which works best for you. Might be tricky finding a Basic though, unless there's a friendly BCer you can tap up......
Folks, what am I doing wrong... ? I'm struggling like a fool to update my photos.... have tried to cut and paste them into this forum but no joy... maybe I'm just stupid..
It can be awkward sometimes, but you should just be able attach am image, might have to use the full editor though. Otherwise if you use Picasa, Dropbox, etc, just paste the url.

I'm kinda surprised at this, because as far as I understood it, the bodies and necks are produced in the far east but the basses are assembled and set up in the Sandberg HQ at Braunschweig.... although I could be wrong. Knowing Sandberg, I would've expected fit and finish to be spot on even on the Electra range. I've not had chance to play one myself, but everything I've read has been very positive.
-
I know some people get pretty bent out of shape about it, but imho I think doesn't matter too much as long as it didn't look hideous. The neck is bolted solidly to the body and I really don't think a slight gap either side of the neck will make any tangible difference to the tone or sustain. In fact, I used to have two yamaha trb's, one had a tight neck pocket and the other had a reasonable gap. I always felt like the one with the gap had better response and sustained better, so make of that what you will. The other thing of course is that if you really like a bass that has a less than perfect neck pocket, it shouldn't prevent you from buying it unless it has a noticeable detrimental effect of some sort. Hope this helps!

WOW! Very sexy bass Pierre!
