1. White gets my vote!
2. Just wish they would release some 5ers in the Electra range.......
3. Can't believe the Panther hasn't sold yet! Hope if goes soon so you can get whatever you're lusting after. A cliché I know, but if it was a 5er.....
4. Footloose! and Oliver's army - never realised how great the bassline is until I started learning it!
5.
Here's a recent one of my California VM-5 in Tobacco Burst with vintage tinted neck (Barefaced Super12T and Thunderfunk TFB-550B on the background):
Nice! Very good looking bass.
6. No Idea, but I'd be buying the sunburst one!
7. Go in between and get a Sandberg California TM or TM2!
8. Hmmmmm....... I'm in a right quandary now!
9. I used to only play 35" 5ers, and usually found the B a bit crappy on 34" 5ers. Then I discovered Sandberg and realized that you can have a GREAT B string on a 34" scale bass, you just have to find the right one. Suddenly, my trusty TRB's felt big and clumsy by comparison and disappeared soon after. I really wish there was a decent music shop nearby that stocked them, I think I would have to a/b one with my Sandberg before making a decision. They look and sound good though. .... Just wish there were more good quality YouTube vids!
10. Thanks again guys, very helpful! How do you find the B string? I haven't played a 5 string Soundgear for a couple of years, but I seem to remember finding the B string a little rattly and floppy. Since then however, I have started playing much more lightly and using lighter gauge strings. Basically, I love my two Sandbergs but they are exactly the same, just different colours. I'm just wondering if I would be better to sell one and get something else to give me a bit of variety. It would need to be 34" scale, light, comfortable, and with a slim neck. ....... Which is why I was eyeing the Soundgears up (although I have liked the look of the 605 since it came out).
11. Many thanks for that cloudburst! I kind of thought they'd bea little lighter than that due to the thin body, but not exactly heavy nonetheless. How does the the 605 compare to your 1205? If you don't mind me asking, how come you moved the 605 on? Cheers.
12. Not a popular model then.......
13. Just wondered if anyone's got any opinions about these, and also if anyone knows what the weight is? Cheers!
14. How much does it weigh?
15. Maybe I'm to easily pleased, but I think the bass sound is great and they're all giving an incredible performance! The singer on the right is a little weak on her own, but the one one the left is unbelievably talented.
16.
He should be playing a musicman ! The jazz isn't cutting it for me , also the mix isn't great I can't extract any decent bass sound from my system, I love chic but the drummer is wrecking it for me , he's playing too much , great to see Nile doing his thing though
Sounds pretty good on my tv. I'm not much of a chic officionado so I don't know what the bass should sound like, but I think his sound is really nice. I think it's an Atelier Z.
17. Wow. Just wow. Friggin amazing! The bass playing is incredible, especially when he gets chance to rip it up a bit! Check it out
18.
I played a five string Overwater recently when I bought my Markbass combo as the guy selling it had one. Very high quality build and an incredibly low (too low for me) buzz free action (it was tuned down a semitone too!). I found the neck to be very slim from front to back but pretty wide across the fingerboard, the exact opposite of my Spector Euro 5 LX. Played a few other Overwaters over the years & they've all been quality instruments.
Thanks Rhys, that's interesting. Your description is pretty much how I like my necks, fairly slim front to back but with fairly generous string spacing. Hmmmmm.......
19. Btw, Harry: that bass is looking lovely!
20. Thanks for all the responses guys, very helpful! I'm surprised that the necks been described as chunky, I always imagined they would be very slim and modern. I guess the other thing is that I kind of went off 35" scale length. I just think that the bass in my op is gorgeous, and great value for a UK hand built bass.
21. Gutted for you dude! I guess it would be difficult to patch up because of the finish. It would be worth taking it to a really good Luther though and see what they can do.
22. I know, I know, I should go and try one out...... I've never had the opportunity to try one, but I've always liked the look of them, and there's one I'm kind of smitten with at the moment: http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/OW_INSP_5_CB.html I think it looks incredible! I just wondered if any of you guys who have had experience with these sort of Overwaters could share your experiences of them, and tell me how they play, how the neck feels and what they sound like? Ta!
23. Why are we resurrecting a thread that's over 3 years old again?
24. I think the ATK's are great basses, provided you get on with a neck that feels like trying to wrap your hand round a 300 year old oak tree! I used to have a special edition ATK300, and whilst doing a professional panto the sound engineer said it sounded way better through the PA than either my USA Jazz or Yamaha TRB!
25. Order a Custom spec Sandberg Basic Ken Taylor 5 and have a load of change left!
