I think the necks are the same width hence the 5 string feels narrow compared to the 4. Can anyone confirm this?
The neck on my 4 string is wide, but not too deep. It's very comfortable but I find I can adapt to wide P necks or J width quite easily.
Anyway, they are stunning basses at an amazing price, especially used.

Thanks Frank, that's very helpful. Are you saying then that you feel that P necks feel chunkier than the G&L?
I'm not normally that into 'rays, but this........
Would you accept a Sandberg Basic, assorted internal organs, my wife, house, etc, etc.................
I think it looks ace, but surely it is gonna neck-dive like a bitch! Nice to see something a bit different from Fender for a change. Twin 'buckers, mmmmmmmm.........

They're excellent. I've had a four and five string and regret selling both!
The necks on the four strings are chunky. The five string is, I think, narrower spacing and felt similar to a five string stingray to me.

Interesting.... I don't have a problem with wide fretboards, but I'm quite interested in what the depth is like front to back, and whether the neck profile flattens out a bit in the middle or is quite round.
Very tempted to get one of these at the moment, but I'm unable to try it first. I've played the 4 string before, and felt the neck was a bit chunky, but I've never played a 5.
Just wondered if anyone had an opinion about these, and if anyone can tell me about the neck or compare it to anything else?
Thanks.
Despite my feelings about the necks on these (I have only tried the 4's mind you), I keep finding myself looking at this bass..... I'm gagging for an ash bodied 5er with a maple board.
Shame I can't tempt you with my lovely greenburst Sandberg, or we could well have a trade going on.......
Damnit....... Been playing them both at home tonight, and I'm really tempted to keep them....
I might possibly consider a trade for a nice 5-string if anyone's got anything they want to offer up....
Ain't GAS a b'tard!
Bump!
C'mon folks, these need to go asap! Make me an offer!
Here's a demo of a Basic by Session Music, although the guy seems to favour the more "scooped" sort of sounds.

A bit of a shameless plug, but what about a Sandberg Basic? Handbuilt in Germany, cost £1100 new.... I could probably do you a good deal on the Greenburst one.......

It's just the lid that's messed up. If I could find somewhere to buy it I would consider it as I'm skint.

This is where I got one a little while ago. You won't find just the lid, you'll have to replace the whole lot.

Went to PMT today great staff there. Really great shop. Anyway I tried the sandberg basic and they are really nice. Very easy to play and great tone. Lots of tones available and natural sounding. Punch too. The setup was perfect and it was pretty effortless to play. £1100 too. Good luck with the sale whoever gets these will be very happy I'm sure.

Thanks man, they are awesome, and if I had enough cash I would keep them! Got some bad GAS goin on though.....
