I've got Dimarzio Model P/J in my RBX and they are AWESOME! Loads of guts and power but plenty of definition and clarity too, but they definitely still sound like a P and J pickup to me and don't lack character. The J is a split coil design so humcancelling and they sound wicked. I was planning to put a preamp in the bass, but I installed these babies and decided it didn't need it. They're really good value for money IMHO too. Oh yeah, and you can wire them to switch between series/parallel if you want too.
Ta Oli - I've got the space and (most of) the tools plus I'm only 20 miles away, pop round and make one here!!! See ya in a couple of weeks at the west mids Bash Bash..... PLUG.....
Thanks for the generous offer Dave, I'd love to but realistically I wouldn't have a clue how to go about building and fretting a neck from scratch! Do you do lessons?
-
Awesome stuff Dave, the fretwork and dots look great! Makes me want to build one myself..... wish I had the facilities to have a go! I'm an ex-carpenter, so I've got some skills, but not the necessary equipment or the money to buy any! Ah well, maybe I'll just have to consider a Firecreek custom.........

Something like a Zoom MRS-8 would be great but I think they cost a bit more. Not only is it an 8-track recorder, but it's got a fully programmable drum machine built in with proper pads (like an Alesis SR16 type of thing). It's got effects and all built in too. Not as small as the Pandora I think, but still very portable.
Buggar, I love green. You say it's 2 band eq? You after any trades?
Unless Dave's has been changed, the Basics have a 3-band Glockenklang with push/pull volume for true passive bypass. There is zero volume drop when switching if the EQ is centred. They are very versatile for a single pickup bass! -
Get your dosh back, have a big mug of tea, enjoy counting the aforementioned dosh, pick up the phone, and order a Sandberg Ken Taylor in the finish that you want, get the bass, play the bass, and enjoy counting the remainder of the dosh that you have saved!!! Just my thoughts, LOL Cheers Pete
+1 -
Welcome! I agree with what everyone else has said. When I first started playing my teacher gave me some good advice; lock in with the bass drum, and let the snare breathe (don't play anything on the snare beat). If you follow this very basic premise, you can't fail to find a tight groove with the drummer! I still resort to this if I'm in doubt about what I should be playing. Keep it simple, and then once you've got a solid bassline, think about embelishing it a little WHERE APPROPRIATE! I share the view of some folks above, that the bass is an accompanying instrument, and that you have to know your place in the band and be happy with it! Not to say you can't have your moments to shine........ If in any doubt, keep it simple and tight. It sounds much better than playing too much sloppily (probably not a word). If you're doing covers, I find Guitar Pro transcriptions useful. They're usually pretty accurate, and you can solo the bass track to hear what's going on, or mute it to play along. Hope this helps!
Thanks TRB, Where did you pick yours up from?
I got mine from DV247 in the end, they were one of the cheapest and offered free delivery. I think it was £137(?). Worth shopping around online to see what the best prices are at the moment. I should have also mentioned before that this pedal has a REALLY sturdy, high quality feel to it! Hope you enjoy it if you go for one! I'll have mine at the bass bash if you haven't bought by then and want to try it out. EDIT: Just realised I bought a few other bits at the time; you have to spend over £150 to get free delivery!

Looking good Dave! Can't wait to have a go on it next month!

Any more news Dave?

I LOVE surf green, but the white scratchplate would be the one for me. Tort looks too confusing!

Not bothered about either really. Fair play the designers at Warwick are trying to think of something a bit different, BUT....... you can still do it tastefully! I bet they're mega overpriced too. I think the hardware on the rusty one looks cheap, and the pickup covers look like someone's had a go at them with a can of plastikote! Each to their own I s'pose. I'm sure there are people out there who think they're awesome!

NOT GREAT NEW BASS DAY - EBMM Ray HH Matching Headstock
TRBboy replied to Musicman20's topic in Bass Guitars
I would have thought that the basses would be coming by courier, in which case they would've had to be collected yesterday afternoon at the latest for delivery today........ S&T might have their own vans now, but they didn't a few years ago when I was working in a music shop. I suppose they might have hired a local "Man with Van" but still.... Like others have said, if they were serious about appeasing you by delivering today, they should have sent ANYONE to deliver, which I'm sure would have been entirely possible. If they're BSing you again, it really is appalling. -
Fender Modern Player Jazz Bass and Telecaster Bass
Have you been in bed or something and missed the 7 page thread on these here? Yay, Fenders or something
I thought this all seemed a bit familiar, but just assumed it was me losing the plot! -
I see you've taken the plunge, falcodub!

I think the concept is okay, but to me it seems like a lot of money for a "novelty" bass. The Aluminium doesn't seem to offer any tangible benefits over a traditional bass, and personally I'd be worried about how it would age; is the aluminium going to start to oxidise and pit after years of (slight) exposure to sweat and moisture?
