I finally got one finished-ish... the title has a double meaning; I'm always happy around and/or in water, though I composed this start to finish on ProTools which is not my preferred DAW. I'm forcing myself to learn how to use the more advanced features as it's the DAW we use at work, and this was composed using templates as a starting point, utilising plug-ins, Audio & Instrument Tracks, Sends, Folders etc. but not MIDI 'cos, you know... Anyway, electric and 'acoustic' guitars were played on a Godin LGX with Seymour Duncan & LR Baggs pickups, bass was an OLP MM2 that a previous owner fitted with a Kent Armstrong, drums courtesy of EZDrummer 3. All FX etc. were stock, or free, plug-ins. I'm not 100% happy with the 'lead guitar', but if I were to keep trying I'd be here until the middle of next month. Once I've submitted this, I'll give the other entries a listen... Good Luck..!

I’m thinking the pick guard isn’t original as the screw holes don’t all line up and there’s a rather noticeable gap around the heel. Maybe a previous owner, who also fitted a Kent Armstrong pickup, acquired a pick guard sized to fit “the real thing” and the dimensions aren’t quite the same. Doesn’t affect playability, but can be a little distracting from certain angles.

Just the one, but it’s really blue..! Picked it up in a Cash Generator with the intention of flipping, but can’t seem to let it go.

A previous owner got rid of the 80’s-tastic ‘STRAT’ decal on the headstock of this Fender HM Strat, so I sourced a cheap decal of my surname in a familiar font. Looks OK from a distance and guarantees a double take…

June Composition Challenge - VOTING!
kingofthestuntmen replied to Skol303's topic in General Discussion
Currently on my hol’s in Newquay, minus my phone which didn’t make it any further south than Lancaster services, but I’ve discovered the holiday park has a ‘WiFi Lounge’, so felt I should submit my vote... Loving the variety of tracks, blown away that someone voted for me, and determined to submit another entry next month. And I promise it’ll have an actual title this time..! -
To quote my 6 year old “that song’s pretty cool... the one with black in it” And thanks for the kind words. KotS

Thanks, AD. I deliberately didn’t listen to yours before I posted, but I’ve given it a listen since. That’s quite a bass tone, and I love the percussion.

Been a while etc, etc...Anyway, bear in mind that this, the first track Ive ever submitted, was written, recorded, mixed and mastered in one day. The idea came to me while while looking at the image and watching our various cats going about their business and interacting with one another; It starts off pleasant enough, then changes to a slightly ominous atmosphere before kicking off... if you have cats you'll (hopefully) get it

March Composition Challenge - VOTING!
kingofthestuntmen replied to Skol303's topic in General Discussion
The Winner's Certificate is going to look even odder than usual later on this evening, I fear. No voters left to break the deadlock..? No..? Oh well, small fonts time (sigh..!).
Phew, made it just in time..! Not sure how/if it has affected the outcome, but I'm now determined to submit next month. Finally... -
"...my first bass was a Vester a Stage Series in bright bright red with a white pick gaurd and potentially a maple neck..."
What, like this one that I picked up at a car boot sale a few years ago..? I've since moved her on, but after a restring and tweak she was quite playable. IIRC she only cost £20.00

My first acquisition for a while... Not been able to definitively identify her, but it may be she is a Stagg (no not that Stagg) from around '77, and branded for the Australian market. As ever with MIJ's, if you want 5 different opinions, ask 3 different enthusiasts... I've become quite attached to her, even though I had intended moving her on...

Relic'ed 70's, eh..? I have to assume that my '72 is naturally relic'ed as it was acquired in 1989 (IIRC) before there was such a thing as Relic'ing...
That LP copy looks quite nice!
More pic's here - http://photobucket.com/albums/e334/kingofthestuntmen/Session Pro Les Paul

I've done OK at a Cash Generator that I swing by most Saturdays when kids are at dance classes. More often that not, if I like the look of something, I leave a minimum deposit, then pay it up over a few weeks. Barely feel it that way... Most recent acquisition... Peavey Millenium BXP5 £70 Session Pro LP Copy £40... Ply body, but it looked the part with a really nice maple veneer and played great after a quick setup. Moved it on via eBay for a ill' profit. Vester Tradition Series '57 S Type. I paid too much; £120.00, but this one was phenomenal. Again, moved on for a bit of a profit... Can't find a pic of the Ibanez RGR321 that I got for £80 cos it 'wasn't working'... Previous owner had attempted to fit a SD Blackout (in the dark, while wearing boxing gloves apparently). A pair of humbuckers from an old CSL LP copy were quickly dropped in, the Blackout went on eBay, quickly followed by the guitar and I had doubled my money in a couple weeks..! Never mind, here she is It's very much the luck of the draw when it comes to visiting these places, and being a regular who knows his stuff helps. Kids classes start back in a couple weeks, and I'm looking forward to paying a long overdue visit. I'll keep you posted...

A lot of activity on Twitter suggesting Randy Coven has passed away... A bassist that I was aware of for a long time, but the Ark albums really made me sit up and listen.

Uh-oh, I've been working on a germ of an idea on my Variax. So it's Parlour Guitar, Dobro AND Banjo..!

December Composition Competition - VOTE NOW!

Used one of my presents to listen & vote. And if I can get my head around GarageBand, I may even have a go at next months comp... -
Here’s my only Westone (currently). Yeah, yeah it’s one of them skinny stringers, but it’s a fantastic piece of kit and has an excellent back story; My dad rescued this '83 Concord II from a car boot sale in a sorry state; stickered up, extra holes drilled and bits missing. It was one of the last instruments resurrected by a certain ERB’ist of this parish before his enforced retirement, and he did a phenomenal job. She’s one of the best ‘S’ types I’ve ever laid hands on; light, resonant and versatile. Some before and after pics… “How much did my dad pay..?” I hear you ask… £12.00..! (including gigbag) “How much did my dad pay..?” I hear you ask… £12.00..! Yup, all I use these days; electric guitars, acoustic guitar, bass. And I originally found about them on BC.
Wow indeed, if she's willing tp put herself through that level of trauma for you, then NEVER let her go, she's clearly a keeper!
