1.
That Precision is gorgeous, Mel
Thanks, I know it's my faybret. If it weren't for the great big neck on it... I used to find it verrrrry comfortable but my wrist doesn't like it any more. Getting old!
 2. Ok, I'll play. In no order... John Deacon Bernard Edwards Nathan Watts James Jamerson Cliff Burton Rutger Gunnarsson Steve Harris John McVie Jason Newstead Dusty Hill
 3. I've been having some wrist pain when playing bass (one injury too many), and as much as I hate to say it, my lovely Precision bass isn't helping that. I've also got an Ibanez SR, but I feel a bit cramped on that, especially below the 4th fret or so. I find myself wrapping my thumb over the top due to the exceptionally skinny profile giving me cramp, which is not a good technique and a terrible habit to get into! What I'm wondering is, firstly, is the skinniness of the SR neck something I would get used to after a while? I did manage to play for a couple of hours yesterday without wrist pain, but my hand started to ache afterwards. Plus the lower horn of the SR really digs into my leg... most annoying. Does anyone know how the current MIA Jazz neck compares with the SR? I understand that the nut is the same width but I'm not sure about the profile. Would a little extra depth give me what I'm looking for, or am I just destined to have discomfort whatever I play? Thanks in advance.
 4.
What's all this about bridge pickups?! Heresy!
I know! I always thought I was a Precision girl through and through but I find myself really enjoying the clarity of the bridge pickup. Plus the neck, although slim for a P, is a killer for my knackered hands.
 5. Nice P bass for someone on a budget. On eBay for £110 collected, so taking their fees off, £100 seems like a fair price. Currently strung with rotos 50-110 in D standard but I can change that if you wanted. Collection only from Gloucester... I can bring it to you by train within a reasonable distance (say Cardiff, Birmingham, Bristol?) if my fare is covered. Price is firm as it's a good price for a nice bass, and I'm not in a huge rush to sell.
 6. Price is £725, I typed it wrong above and can't change it! Here's my fantastic Fender P - wonderful bass but I'm putting it up for sale or trade for several reasons. I've put it up for sale before and have withdrawn it, but it's time now Reasons - Firstly, my hands aren't as good as they used to be (a very sore point, literally) so a slim neck width is the way forward, and secondly, I find myself favouring bridge pickups these days. Currently leaning towards a straight sale, but could be tempted by trades, try me This is in great condition, purchased new by me in 2011. I think. It has the 60th anniversary plate on, but the serial dates it to 2010. It is starting to age slightly and has a little paint sinkage because it has the thin lacquer, but I can't see any dings. A few tiny 1-2mm cracks in the finish only at the neck pocket (I'll try and get good photos ASAP but it's barely noticeable). Neck and frets are excellent. Has a thin shim because I like the action super low (it's at 1.2mm currently) but this probably isn't needed for most folks to be honest. Strung with Chromes 40-100 custom light, they're broken in nicely and probably don't need changing for years Comes with OHSC (the nice molded one with TSA approved latches) and adjustment tools. The pickguard was tort but has been swapped out for black, but it's a genuine Fender replacement. And it has Dunlop dual design strap buttons on Edit to add weight - 8.4lbs. I'm in sunny Gloucester, and can drive to meet within reasonable distance. I'd prefer to do any deal through a meet rather than post. Price reduced to £700 - willing to consider offers. I've also taken some better photos. 7.
is it the TYPE of bass you are after or THE bass you sold ? did you note model numbers etc or are you just hoping memories will help ?
Preferably the same one, but an identical one would do. It was exactly the same as this one i934.photobucket.com/albums/ad186/barryclarkmusic/IBANEZ%20GUITARS%203/025-7-6.jpg
 8. Haha! Wouldn't be the first time, don't worry about it Payment sent. I couldn't be more excited!
 9. This the one you bought for £100 the other day?
 10.
Well I'm going to go down a slightly different route. It seems pretty obvious to me that the course of action most likely to provide the best chance of not investing in another unsuitable bass would be to get the underlying health issues out of the way. Until that's sorted out I have a terrible vision of a house full of expensive discarded compromises...
I understand what you're saying, honestly. I'm very aware of my own body and what it's telling me, and I know that if I continue to play an uncomfortable instrument, or one that's causing me pain, then the road to recovery is not going to get any shorter no matter how I tackle any underlying issues.
 11. Does anyone know of a decent place I can go to try out a few basses, and make a purchase if I find one I like? I'd like to take my own strap. Somewhere accessible by train would be great. I have a budget of MAX £700
 12. Having looked at a few videos of mustangs, I'm pretty sure that's where I want to go. They're so cute. But, do they neck dive? Anyone got any experience with this?
 13. Nah don't know of any rugby club in Gloucester...
 14.
Just checking you've had your injuries checked by a physio? I see this has already been asked but I didn't see an answer. Apologies if this is out of place. The only reason I ask is I've had a few injuries, pulls & RSI etc, none of which a good sports physio hasn't been able to fix 100%. Also an ex of mine seriously knackered her ankle falling off a pile of crap at the stables. They were talking deliberately breaking her ankle to make it easier to fix, carpal tunnel ops, fusing bones etc etc. My physio fixed it by massaging away all of the scar tissue which had built up around the tendon tear & she didn't have to go near an operation.
Not out of place at all I've been to a Physio about my wrist ligaments, they gave me a brace and said wear this for two weeks. Then I went back and they weren't really sure what to do after that. Good old NHS. And I've been to see a specialist about the cyst, and he refused to remove it as there's no nerve damage yet.
 15. I know it seems like I'm just making excuses, but I've tried so many things that I just feel at the end of my tether with it all
 16.
And get it wrong and you're f***ed.
Yeah, I considered Landing short scale basses, but I can't try before I buy. And I'd lose so much money if I didn't like the end product.
 17.
An Ibanez Soundgear might be worth checking out. Slim necks, well balanced, light weight, slim contoured bodies, & you can get a pretty low action on them. & the cherry... They sound awesome.
Yeah, that's not a bad idea. Wonder if I'd have the same problem fretting the low frets on a 1.5" nut?
 18.
http://guitarless.com/2010/06/prevent-neck-heavy-guitar-headstock-diving/
It's a great idea, but I don't wanna add weight
 19.
I don't know how you are fixed financially, but Jon Letts basses are wonderfully light and I'm sure he could work something out for you.
I don't think I can afford to go custom, although his basses are stunning. How does the wooden bridge work out? How does one adjust the action and intonation?
 20.
Sorry to hear this not good for you I assume you've tried small scale necked basses? Also have you tried different straphights? What's it like sitting down and playing with one leg slightly raised?
Yeah, tried it all. That last couple of frets is a killer. I wear my bass like a bow tie most of the time, or angled up like a DB, but it's no better.
 21.
Or a Jag.
Same as above. The music shops around here are crap for basses, so it's really difficult to go try them out.
 22.
Mustang Bass? http://www.fender.com/en-GB/series/classic/mustang-bass/
I've thought about those and definitely like the looks and sound. But I've heard they are very neck heavy. Any ideas?
