Blocks have NO place on P-basses!
I have to agree but it still looks pretty sweet! -
Yes & no! I have three fretless - a custom Larkin Reacter 4B I had built in 1989 (my avatar) which doesn't get nearly as much use as it used to or ought to, a modified Squier VM fretless that gets played constantly and a cheap crappy Stagg BC300FL I bought on a whim for £60 that never gets used. Ever! As for an acoustic, I'd love one but don't have the money to spend on a decent one.

I feel really bad about this

He's gone and put the wrong pics up on his ad. Here's the same pics on a different auction he has: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HARLEY-1450-FSXT...=item27bd260c51 -
Sounds like an epic trip you have planned there! As you're gona be crossing the States I can't urge you enough to go check out the Southern States especially Virginia, Carolinas, Tennessee, Kentucky & Georgia. First time I went over in 2008 I fell in love with the people and the place (I was given the title of 'Honorary Redneck' and a John Deere cap hence the name JohnDeereJack!) When I was over I bought a cheap acoustic guitar just for sitting in jam sessions (there are PLENTY around) and something called a GripMaster to keep my fingers limber for the almost four weeks I was without a bass. They come in different strengths and I seriously can't extoll the virtues of these devices enough. Unfortunately I'm not gona make the States this year but enjoy your trip mate, I'm totally jealous.

Hi folks, I'm also in the market for a good octave pedal for a new Electro/Dance venture and was leaning towards either the MXR Bass Octave Deluxe or Boss OC-3. The reason being I can actually try these two out. I see there's plenty of positive feedback for the Boss OC-2 (I had one of these waaaay back in the day but never really got along with it) along with the EBS Octabass and the MXR Bass Octave Deluxe but no mention of the current Boss offering - the OC-3. Is it that bad a pedal or is it because there are better options out there? Do you guys have any feedback/suggestions regarding the Boss OC-3 v MXR BOD? Thanks
Interesting stuff, Wikipedia says it doesn't sound like any tonewoods.... so how does it sound?
It's really quite bright actually. A lot brighter in tone than my Jazz (ash/maple) or my active fretless Larkin Reacter (mahogany/ebony) That may be because of the Luthite body & Ebanol board, the Bart pup & circutry or a combination of all but like Lfalex mentioned it doesn't really have an obvious tone unlike, for example, the aforementioned mahogany body/ebony board combo. Either way I like it for both looks and sound and it suited the style of music I was playing at the time.

The body of my Cort Curbow 5 string is made of finest Luthite! Luthite - Sounds like it could take down a Superhero at 200 yards! Luthite on Wikipedia

My late 80's custom Larkin Reacter fretless 4B (the one in my avatar) My 75RI Jazz and 57RI P could be replaced easily enough but getting another Larkin built would cost an arm and a leg

Cheers dude, I'll have a look on-line and see what I can find. I'll also take the stock machines off and measure the holes in the headstock to get an idea of width I'll need.
I've sold a couple of bits and was going to try an get hold of a higher spec fretless, but to be honest, you've inspired me. I'll let it run on e-bay for this week and If it doesn't sell, I'm going to mod it like you have. Thanks for the inspiration.
Glad to be of help Ossie They're great basses and perfect for modding. If you do decide to keep it and do it up make sure you keep us posted with plenty of pics in a build diary. Bassdude - I felt the same about Squier til I actually tried the VM range. Fantastic basses for the money you'll pay. The only issue I had with the VM Fretless was the intonation high up the board but a set-up (which included having the board planed) and a new set of strings sorted that out. The only other budget fretless I could get my hands on was the distressed 'Vintage' Jaco-a-like. Nice bass, played well but not as nice as the Squier. Also I just dont like that 'distressing' fad so I'm happy to say the Squier won.
That's it! Super looking Jazz bass... I'd put some vintage style machines on there, just my personal preference.
I've actually been toying with the idea of replacing the stock machines with vintage ones but I'm a bit dubious about the amount of work that'll have to go into it versus the overall gain. From what I've read, both on this forum and others, there are no vintage-style machines that are a direct replacement for Squier VM's so I guess it would involve filling and re-drilling for the new ones. As I currently have no issues with the stock machines I thought it best to leave them as is although I gotta say the vintage ones you have look really nice. (PS - if I'm wrong please feel free to correct me regarding the direct replacement machines for VM's and maybe even point me in the direction of a suitable replacement set if you know of any )

I recently modded my Squier VM Fretless. Tort PG, Gotoh 301, fake grounding strip, pull-bar, Jazz Bass style knobs, neck pup cover, electrics replaced with CTS & Switchcraft units, replaced the original cap with an old PIO .05 cap off a 50's Telecaster, Series/Parallel switching and I had the fretboard planed as well. The bass cost me around £250 a couple of years ago and the modifications and upgrades came to more than £100 so in essence I've paid over £350 for a VM fretless. Personally I think it was worth it because it looks and sounds so much better than it did originally. (Not that it was a bad bass to start with ) Here's a before/after comparison:
