I signed up last week and started the course today. It's very well presented, looks very interesting and I got my first two questions on frequency and pitch relationship correct!
-
Personally I think you should just do it anyway but make sure you record the audience reaction and post it here on BC! Y'know, like the '2 Girls...' reaction videos on YT!

How can he list this as 'New'?! Surely it should be listed as 'Scrap' with a silent 'S'! -

I love the pic with the bloke (seller?) holding what I imagine to be the bass in its "...genuine customised Dean padded gig bag with large front pocket". Excellent stuff! I'm off to see them (for the umpteenth time!) in Glasgow next month. Can't wait! \m/

Definitely Trace Elliot. I still have all of the Trace gear I bought from '80's and have added some more from that era too.

Envelope filters that can handle a very hot input signal
johnDeereJack replied to Gunsfreddy2003's topic in Effects
I have both on my board; the MXR is band pass and can't be altered so I have the GR2 set to low pass. I use the GR2 on it's own for funk stuff while I pair the M82 with fuzz/OD and octave for synthy nonesense. Both are really great filter pedals IMHO with plenty of great features & usable tones but if I had to choose one over the other it would be the GR2. It's just so much more versatile and has the ability to be band pass or low pass with an internal switch. Not really that useful in a gig situation I grant you, hence the M82 still being used. When I heard about 3Leaf's other filter pedal - the Wonderlove, which I believe replaced/superseded the GR's - I went out and bought one on the basis it had a BP/LP switch mounted on the top of the unit for easy switching in a gig situation and an external gain control (GR2's is internal) plus it was billed as the best filter Spencer could create. Unfortunately it didn't live up to the hype and I sold it shortly after. Bottom line; if you can find a used GR2 then buy it but the MXR M82 is definetly a great filter pedal so shouldn't be ruled out. -
Envelope filters that can handle a very hot input signal

I have an MXR M82 (as mentioned above) plus a 3Leaf Audio GR2 which also has a sensitivity control. Both pedals work incredibly well with my active fretless. Very easy to dial in some nice squelchy, quacky funk! -
If money was indeed 'no object' then it would have to be the Bass of Doom, then I'd give it back to the Pastorius family ensuring I have good karma for the rest of my days.

Spencer at 3Leaf has a new fuzz called 'You're Doom' coming out. Here's his post on TB: http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f36/3leaf-audio-club-episode-2-a-957647/index25.html#post14996868 "It's essentially the opposite of the Duality. Here's how I look at them: The Duality takes traditional idea of a fuzz and executes it in a totally unique way, while the You're Doom turns the idea of a fuzz on its head. You're Doom responds to your playing dynamics. You're Doom plays well with other pedals and doesn't care if your bass is active or passive. You're Doom sounds like a square wave came straight from your pickups. It's called a "dynamic harmonic device" because it's just that - extremely sensitive to dynamics. You can "play it" the way you would play an envelope filter or a compressor." Too many nice pedals coming out..!
To be honest, I am more interested in the 3Leaf offering
I'm a huge fan of 3Leaf too and (I believe) Spencer is somewhat involved with Darkglass now? On paper at least, this fuzz should be quite interesting - vintage/synthy/gated and modern in the same pedal? I'm looking forward to hearing some soundclips. So 3Leaf/Spencer is releasing an octave pedal? Bugger!

Yep, that's a steal. -
Yeah, I just took delivery of a Darkglass VMT last month; a really nice piece of kit it is too and here's me thinking my pedal gas had dissipated then this is announced. Typical!
Ohhhh can't wait for clips!

Any idea on price?
I second that Woody; really looking forward to hearing it in action and no prices as yet although as far as I can tell from TB they're on pre-order at the mo. Not sure if that's just in US but Bass Direct & Effect Power Supplies are listed as UK stockists. Suppose you could email for info regarding price and pre-ordering. I'll definitely be keeping an eye on the Darkglass page for clips though.

It seems there's a new pedal from Darkglass, this time a fuzz: http://www.darkglass.com/products/duality-dual-fuzz-engine/ No sound clips as yet but it looks pretty good and from what Darkglass are saying on TB it sounds like it might be quite cool too! "Both [fuzz circuits] are totally original and new... One side is an old school style square-wave shaper... gated and with a very vintage, synthy vibe to it (the Filter knob will serve as a shape changer, rounding the corners). The other side is a 4 stage CMOS high gain fat, fuzzy distortion. By combining both all sort of weird things happen... from just mixing the "textures" to dirty phaser-like effects... it can get pretty crazy and unusual. 2 Cool things about it (and main reason of why this design was so tricky) is that it's intended to work very consistently regardless of the rig used: most Fuzzes tend to prefer passive basses and not like cabinets with tweeters. Spencer and I corrected that by adding input buffers (necessary for the Blend knob to work properly) and by using an active Filter control, making the adjustment of 'bite' and high harmonic content a breeze to dial."
