    I've had a few PM's about selling this too. I guess that's probably my best option, that'll give me some cash to buy something, possibly a Clifton mini EUB. I'd like about £900 For a cash sale.

    I currently have an NS CR4M. I love the thing, it means that I can play something close to a DB, and get sounds something like a DB from it. I'm getting quite a few gigs because of it, which is great ! I'd like something a little more DB sounding though. It has to be an EUB though. I don't play DB and don't have the time to learn, or the car to fit one in. My NS is up for trade by the way, if anyone is interested.     A bit of a long shot this I suppose. I love this, I bought it not too long ago. I'm getting quite a few gigs now solely for EUB/DB. So I'd like to trade this for something with a little more double bass'ish sound. Something like the Clifton mini upright would be great. This comes very close to a double bass sound, but not quite close enough really I guess. It's in excellent condition, and comes with a gigbag and the endpin stand thing.

It really doesn't take very long to learn the notes on a fretboard. When you look at them you see that they follow a repeating pattern. I play a 6 and knowing what I know I already knew I knew what the 'new' notes were when I switched from playing a 5 string. So yes I know what every note is that I play, and I know in what context I'm playing it, ie how it relates to the chord or key signature that I'm playing over. I don't really see how you can play and not know what notes you're playing.

    Are there such things ? Does anyone do a coated set or a wrapped set. I'd like a set in black, they'd look prettly cool on my NS CR4M. They'd probably also sound pretty good I'd have thought, nice and mellow.

    I ordered my fretless 6 in October and paid £400 deposit. I asked Martin if I could pay off the balance during the wait time (12-14 months), but he said he'd rather have it all when the bass is finished.

    Here're are a few photos of the case. As you can see, it's in excellent condition. The photos show my singlecut in it to demonstrate how much room there is inside it. There's about 6cm at the end of the case so long basses should fit, and a couple of cm around the sides.

    I bought this from Bassdirect a few months ago, it's hardly been used and is 'as new'. I have too many bags and cases, I have two Hiscox cases, a full custom flight case for my Sei single cut, and a gig bag and a new custom made case for my NS EUB, plus this. They take up a lot of room and I'm getting nagged about all the space that they take up. I prefer to use a case so this has hardly been used. It cost about £120 if I remember correctly.     I ordered and paid for something from the online store a month or so ago. A couple of days later I had an email saying that it had been sent. A few days went by and I hadn't recieved it so I contacted them, only to be told that it was out of stock and it would be about 3 weeks before it would back in. So go figure that one out, they did give me a refund though, but why say it had been posted ?

It was kind of OK when I was playing 5 string, but a bit of a stretch when I played a 6, but it really didn't occur to me to do anything else.

    I'm both, I've had lessons for years but was originally self taught. The 1st lesson was a mile stone in my playing, and a real eye opener to just how poor my technique was. It took me ages to 'un-learn' my technique and re-learn the 'proper' way. Basically I'd learned from a book which said that you only used three fingers on your left hand (fretting hand), and held the bass neck like a bassball bat. This was obviously a very limiting playing style, my teacher was amazed how I could play stuff that was very complicated the way I could. I didn't bother with lessons when I changed to 6 string bass, again I learned the hard way and it took a few lessons from Steve Lawson and a lot of hours practice to get my 6 string playing sorted out, floating thumb and damping/muting etc.

    You don't neccessarily need to match the radius of the fretboard, mine isn't like that. It's basically just filling in the gap between the pickups. It is the same height as the pickups. I made the one on my Modulus from an ebony fretboard ordered from Touchstone tonewoods. It cost about £10 I think and I had enough wood to make a few. My DIY skills are very limited, so if I can make one then anyone can.

    They're a great idea, but apart from Ibanez who fit them to the Gary Willis basses I don't know of any other manufacturers who fit them. I have one on my Sei bass and it really does help stop you from getting your fingers stuck under the strings when venturing away from playing over the pickups. I don't see why you can't have one made to fit on any bass.

    Give the Shuttle 3.0 a try too. That's what I use and it's plently loud enough for most gig situations where you won't have PA backup, and it has a great DI for larger gigs. It weighs in at less than 2lbs.

    I just use one Berg EX112ER with a Shuttle 3.0. I find it plenty loud enough to cope with quite a loud drummer in my jazz/funk band. I don't have the Shuttle on more than 6 or 7, and my bass isn't on full. I don't have it on more than about 5 with the two trios that I play in.

The EUB is totally different though, so much easier to play. And it does sound like a DB that's amplified. There's a left handed Mo Clifton one for sale at the Gallery .
