1. I got this from a fellow basschatter a few weeks ago, it's complete with the original packaging, manual and power supply. I already have a Lexicon MPX1, and after a visit to the Gallery yesterday I could put the funds to other uses. I'm asking £120 for it, which is what I paid. It's in excellent condition, just a small mark underneath the input which is so small it won't photograph.
2. I have all my strings the same height ie. they're level along the top as you look at them, the fingerboard is flat. I find it helps with my right hand playing with them all being the same height. All the strings are about 1.5 to 2mm of the neck at the 12th fret, I do have a very light playing style.
3.
Any chance you can let me know about the comfortt straps please?
Hi Sorry, both straps are sold, and were posted today.
4. I got this two weeks ago, from Digital village, they owed me some money for a return that I'd made, and I chose this. I only really want reverbs, delays and modulation, and I have those on my Lexicon MPX1, and I've ordered a Looperlative, so I don't need the looper function. Consequently I'm not really using this much at all, and the cash could go towards other things. It's in mint condition with all packaging, power supply etc, and I haven't registered ownership of it either, so it will have a 12 month warranty. I'm asking for £300 which includes next day delivery. Cheers
5. I seem to collect gear with amazing rapidity. Hiscox standard EBS bass case - I'm buying a new contego gig bag from Mark at Bassdirect, so this isn't needed anymore, this is virtually new - £50 plus postage or collection welcome. Zalloa 12ft cable - £25 including postage. Spectraflex 20ft cable - £20 including postage. SKB 4U rackcase - excellent condition - £40 plus postage - on hold until Friday.
6. That's beautiful, how long did it take to be built ? I just ordered a 6 string MB2, Rob say's it will be about 5 months.
7. I don't see the point in them personally, for a start the majority of them don't have enough strings.
8. This is where I saw him http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=4qOOapaKtbU His command of the instrument is astounding. When he arrived for the class he was wearing splints or supports on his wrists, I've heard recently that he's had to have surgery on them, he's played 36" scale basses for years, fitted with quite heavy gauge strings and he used to favour quite a high action, he's also sufferred from arthritus for quite some time. He was once sacked from a band, I think it was by Al Jarreau for not standing up to play, and not dancing, his Fodera doesn't even have straplocks fitted.
9. I've heard of this sort of thing with LaBella exposed core strings, but it's not something I've personally experienced.
10. Anthony Jackson is one of the worlds top players, a true musician, and I think he invented the 6 string bass as we know it today. I got to see him last year at a masterclass at ICMP with Mike Stern, he comes across as being a bit aloof, but he's not, he's just passionate about his music, and playing, he's a really nice guy.
11.
I've always fancied one of these as they look so beautiful. I've been told these are give a more uprightish tone than a fretless electric mwah, although I suspect that may be down to string preference. Ejoy, should be stunning...
Thanks, as you say it's down to string type, and a lot of the sound is down to how you play, and where on the bass you play, I can get a very convincing upright sound on my acoustic by playing close to the body using just my thumb, and more of an electric sound using my fingers by the bridge.
12. I just sent off my deposit for a Rob Allen MB2 6 string fretless, it'll be ready in about 5 months. They're semi hollow, and all of them are really beautiful to look at. It's going to be an unlined fretless, and it'll have an ash body with walnut facings and toroiseshell binding around the body. They have a piezo pickup in the bridge, so I'll get a sound sort of between an electric fretless and my acoustic fretless bass, which is just what I'm after. The volume control is that little knob on the side of the bridge. It's a bit of a risk I suppose buying a bass that I'm not going to be able to try first, but I've done a lot of research on Robs basses, and everyone tells me the same thing with regard to construction, and the description of the sound of them is exactly what I'm after. It'll look something like this, but with the darker toroiseshell binding around the edge.
13. It'll run upto four effects at the same time, that's plenty for me, I like room reverb with a touch of dimension C chorus.
14. I've had this for a week now, and it's great, verys easy to use, really nice effects, and a nice looper. I don't like distortion on bass so I can't comment on the usability of the distortion effects, but the reverb, delay and modulation effects are fantastic, as good as I've heard. The unit is really really quiet, there's no background noise, and you get true bypass when it's not wanted The looper is great, it gives 28 seconds of looping, and you get an undo facility which is very handy, not only for deleting if you make a mistake, but it's useful for a single run through over a loop. There's a single play button that's good for ending a piece too, press it and at the end of the loop it'll just play through once more. One thing with the looper though, you need to be very clean and accurate with your playing, any ringing or sustaining notes when you end the recording results in a clicking noise as the sustain is cut off, you can see the sock that I've got tied around the top of the neck to cut down on ringing strings. For ambient playing I've found using a volume pedal to fade in and out really useful. I've got an Ebow that's really great for producing nice ambient pads of sound, and use the volume pedal to fade them in and out while recording. There's a very good and useful M13 forum on the Line 6 website. This is highly recommended.
15. Nice collection of Statii there. I've always fancied a Kingbass, all the ones I've played have been really great, but I know if I bought one (and I almost did a few weeks ago), it wouldn't get played. I'm thinking of getting a Jonas Hellborg electro 3 6 string, which would get played. Good luck with the sale and the S2 if you get it.
16. That's going to be a great looking bass. From an idea to a body in about 6 weeks too, that's pretty good, what's the wait time for a Sei jazz bass ?.
17. Try the Line 6 M13, I got one today, it's pretty amazing and very simple to use. You get a whole load of very good effects that are all user changeable, and a 28 second looper. I've only had it about 2 hours, but I'm finding it very easy to use, you can have chords played with a nice mutron sound on them, add a nice unaffected bass line, and then solo over the top with a touch of reverb.
18. There's some very nice ERB playing on Yves solo album, he actually plays 'normal' music on it with a singer and drummer.
19. I've ordered a Line 6 M13, so I get effects and it has a looper built into it, I'm thinking of getting a looperlative too.
20.
Do you think he is telling the truth there then?
That's what I was wondering, in the advert he was offering for people to call around and try the bass, wouldn't people think it odd if they did and he wasn't there, just his wife ?. Is it possible that he misread the ebay advert, and thought that it actually belonged to Mike Rutherford ?.
21. Anyone tried it, what do you think ?.
22. That's a great bit of film isn't it, I've watched that a few times. It's a pity it's not available on DVD.
23. Hi Alun Cheers, I'll get me a copy tomorrow, by the way what do they say is best.
24. Which is best, after my DL4 turned out to be faulty I'm a worried about Line 6 stuff reliability. I'm after a multi effects, either floor or a rack mount
