It looks like my brand new DL4 is faulty, so I'm taking it back and changing it. I was thinking though, of getting software and an interface that I can use instead of a dedicated looper, which might be more versatile. I want to use my laptop for recording anyway. Any recomendations would be welcome. I've heard of people using Ableton live for this sort of application, and someone I know has used Logic, I already have Garageband. Is this any good ?. I bought this a few weeks ago, but only just got around to trying it. I get a loud clicking sound at the end of the loop, or when I press the end button. Is it just me with the settings wrong ?.

I thought it looked horrible, but what do I know. -
I'm thinking of getting a Sadowsky, I like the look of the UV-70 here http://www.thebassgallery.com/sadowskyuv70.html I'm also thinking about one of these, and getting it defretted.

To me the wear looks odd, it's all on the face of the body, (looks a bit like a dart board). -
Not mine, but what do you think, I know nothing about such things. New Wechter acoustic fretless bass guitar
6stringbassist replied to 6stringbassist's topic in Gear Gallery
Thanks !. The same wood is all around the sides, it's really beautiful. -
I got this a few days ago, it's fantastic, a really beautiful sound, totally unlike other acoustic basses that I've played. Jonas Hellborg plays an acoustic by the same luthier. It's signed on the back of the headstock by Abraham Wechter, and dated January 2007. I've fitted a set of DR sunbeams to it, I get a lovely deep, warm sound from it.

I got a Hiscox in the end from Dolphin music, unfortunately it was damaged when it arrived, but I'm getting a replacement early next week.

Music Insurance - has anyone claimed on it ?
6stringbassist replied to darwin's topic in General Discussion
I just got a quote through the MU, £7500 worth of gear insured worldwide, plus unattended car cover for £120. -
Difficult question time now, probably a silly question too, as sound is personally subjective. How do the Sadowsky basses sound compared to the Laklands, or the Fender reissue basses, I've been offerred a US reissue 70's bass, and it really does look a beautiful bass, here's a photo of it.

I hadn't considered Sadowsky, a quick look on the Gallery website reveals this pretty looking thing. http://www.thebassgallery.com/sadowskyuv70.html Very nice !.
Check out a Lakland JO4. They seem to get very good reviews.
Yeah, the link is to a Joe Osborne model, they do look really good. I think a trip to the Gallery may be called for.

I'm after a nice 4 string (yes, that's right a 4 string) jazz bass, to inject a 70's type vibe into my playing for my one band. I like the look of the Fender 70's classic basses, they're nice but a lot of people over on talkbas seem to be swapping things out on them, pickups etc. I also like the Marcus Miller bass, but I have to admit I'm not 100% on the pickguard. Laklands also look good, either the Daryll Jones or this one's really caught my eye, this looks very cool. http://www.lakland.com/ac_j-sonic.htm I like the Fender RI jazzes they look pretty cool. As do the Fender Victor Bailley basses. I don't really have a budget as such, at the moment I have about £500, but I don't mind waiting a few weeks, saving up and getting something better. Suggestions please !.

I tried bronze ones on mine when I first had it, but really didn't like the sound at all, very harsh sounding and actually quite 'unacoustic' sounding. I'm currently using DR Sunbeams, they're really nice, very warm sounding and easy to play. I tried flats but they sounded too much like an upright, which wasn't the vibe I personally was after.

Ah, a topic very close to my heart, 6 string basses. I'm currently onto my 5th one, they've all been Sei's made by Martin Petersen, except for one Modulus. I have played many others, including Smiths, Fodera, Status and Roscoe to name a few. This is the only one made for me, and it's basically all the good points from the others put into one bass, and it is really fantastic, the balance is perfect, as is the neck profile, I can and do play for mant hours at a time with no discomfort. As with any bass though, someone else may hate it, it's mine though, and to me is perfect, and I would never sell it.

I just wondered if anyone had tried one of these. http://www.reidys.com/index.pl?submit=View...PriceComparison They get some good reviews on talkbass, and are a really good price, I like the 70's vibe, and it would be useful for my one band, my 6 string is my main bass. Would I be better with a different Fender jazz bass, I do have an option on a Marcus Miller bass which is in the same sort of vein.

I played an Alembic Stanley Clarke once, that was really badly unbalanced, I spent the whole of the time holding the neck up.

That's a beautiful shape, really nice !.
