1.
how do these cabs work, do I just need a pre-amp or something?
You can just plug into the back, as long as you use a jack to male XLR type lead. I use a Summit audio TD100 or an Epifani Quest 2 preamp with mine, with a preamp you're getting a line level signal into the IP cab. They're probably about as flat sounding as you're going to get, so the resulting sound is almost just your bass plus whatever pre you use. They're also incredibly loud, 1000 watts of digital power.
2. I tried one of these when I bought my IP112, they're superb. I'd like one just as an alternative, how much are you asking ?.
3. I can do, and use my thumb as well, but it takes practice to get it smooth and flowing.
4. I've just taken delivery of a new Petersen strobo tuner, so I really don't need this anymore. It's in excellent (as new really) condition. £35 including postage. Books I have way too many of these, so here are a few that I don't really need, hopefully someone else will, they are all in first class condition, the prices include postage. 5. The Epifani Quest 2 is a good one, Alembic do a nice one, as do Demeter. It depends on what sort of sound you're after. My Summit audio is really nice, but doesn't have an effects loop or any of the other stuff that you're after, but sound wise it's about the best you can get, for me anyway, at least for less than a grand, mine cost £350.
6.
What's the impedance of this cab?? J
5.3 ohms
7. You know, I still find it amazing that he can build such quality instruments in such a small workshop.
8. I have, I've only been using the IP112, I'd actually like to try it with one of the HT12ER cabs with the tweeter.
9. I need to get something a bit lighter, I'm playing in five different bands at the moment, and carrying this about is getting a bit much. This is a fantastic bass rig, I'd say the best I've played through. It's as new, and is complete with padded covers. I'll accept £1000 ovno. I'd also be interested in a trade for an Epifani UL502 plus a 212 or 310 cab.
10. No, I ordered 114 X 38, they've sent me 128 x 36, I've edited it to make it a bit clearer. They'll certainly fit a 5 string, in fact anything up to a 7 string. They'll fit any string spacing.
11. I ordered these ages ago for my new Sei 6 string, but due to a delay in the production and shipping I decided to have Bartolini P4's fitted to the Sei as Martin had already suggested. The Q-tuners were now going to go in my Modulus, they were ordered to be a direct replacement, ie they should have been 114 x 38mm. Yesterday I received an email from Erno, who designs and builds the pickups to say that mine had been shipped, but on checking the details the wrong size had been sent, they had sent 128 x 36 mm pickups by mistake. They are however going to send out a new pair free of charge, which will be with me in the next couple of weeks. Here's a link to the website http://www.q-tuner.com/index.shtml There are loads of threads on talkbass about these. Anyway if anyone wants a brand new set of boutique pickups at a bargain price they can have these for £80 including 1st class postage, that's half price.
12. Here's a couple of slightly better photos as requested.
13.
someone could pair this with Platypus's 1x15UL and have a stonker of a cab set up.
It'd be a bit of a weird ohm thing though, how would that work a 5.3 and an 8, it's not something I'm very good at.
14. My favourite is definitely 'If this bass could only talk', it seems to be the most consistent album, some of his albums are a bit of a mixed bag, some funk, a bit of jazz played on upright, a solo upright song, even some poetry on one of his albums, so you might only like a couple of tracks, obviously depending on your musical tastes. I'd 'If this bass' is one of my top 10 bass albums.
15. Thanks for all of your comments. I'd like to see the photos you have Mike, I've got a couple from before the finish was applied. I've spent loads of time in Holland over the last 5 months, so I wasn't around enough to get down to see the various stages of construction. She's so comfortable to play, I guess I was playing for about 8 hours yesterday with no discomfort at all. The balance couldn't be bettered, it's perfect. Two things I was concerned about before I collected it, are the 18mm string spacing and 34" scale length, the Modulus is a 35" and has 17mm string spacing, I'd ordered the Sei before I started playing the Modulus, and the Modulus has been my main companion for the last 8 months or more. I needn't have worried though because I honestly don't notice it. I can go from one bass to the other without thinking. She was going to have Q-tuner pickups fitted, but they didn't arrive in time, so they're going onto the Modulus, the Bartolinis sound perfect though, just as Martin Predicted they would. I play in quite a varied assortment of musical projects, from an ambient rock band, a jazz quartet, a duo with another jazz guitarist who uses looping, to a junction band playing most things from jazz to present day pop, I wouldn't hesitate to use the Sei in any of them, I think though that the Modulus has the edge in the rock band, mainly due to the visual aspect of the design, she has a vast palate of tonal colours. I keep saying 'she', which is something I picked up from Alex, but it seems right somehow, can you have male and female musical instruments ?. Here are a few more photos, they still don't do justice to Martins work, the flame maple neck is almost 3D, if it does stop raining some time in the near future I'll take some better photos outside.
16. There's even a drummer live bit. Why nothing for bass players, perhaps BGM could organize something for next year. I went two years ago and thought it a total waste of time, except for Laurence Cottle and Jeff Berlin, but if EBS/GB aren't there this year, then it really would be an even bigger waste of time.
17. I'd like to see yours, I bet the flamed ash looks nice, is there a photo of it on the Sei website ?.
18.
Hello all, Thanks ever so much for the suggestions, got lots of googling to get on with this morning to check out whats been suggested. Dood, thanks for sorting out the other post, had a bit of a no brainer posting in the wrong place. I have read something about the QSC amps before and they look pretty tasty, and the digital Crown sounds cool too. BIG surprise was the powered Bergantino cabs.....never knew they existed BRILLIANT!!! Thanks very much so far guys, lots to think about.
The Berg cabs sound brilliant, and work really well with the Epifani pre. http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_sp...s_speakers.html Speak to Mark at bass direct.
19. I use mine with my Bergantino IP112 powered speaker cab. But if it's just a poweramp that you're after, try the Crown audio XTi amps, they're digital so they have no noisy fans to drive you mad, theyr'e plenty powerful and a great price. 20.
Thanks Kevin - absolutely stunning! Knowing Martin's work, I'd imagine it plays and sounds as good as it looks. I didn't make it to the Gallery last week so missed out on an intimate introduction - I'm looking forward to more photographs when you get a chance. What's the facing timber on this (and is it the same facing on the reverse)? Cheers, Lawrence
Hi Lawrence It's buckeye burl front and back over a walnut core, it's quite heavy but has an amazing acoustic sound, probably the loudest I've come across. Bartolini P4 pickups and an East preamp, blue side LED's.
21.
Hi Kev can you somehoe make your pics bigger? Steve. Too many strings? how so?
I was just getting in first, I know someone will make that comment. No, to me it's perfect. I'll take some better photos outside over the weekend.
22.
I wouldn't swap this for a Markbass cab in a million years...
Me neither.
23.
It's been removed now anyway, my guess is someone reported it and ebay didn't like the "i have to right to blah blah blah i'm a twat" bit. To be fair neither do i. They blatantly haven't read ebay's rules, they really don't have right to end early at all.
It's still their item surely, if they decide to sell to it outside of ebay then that's their choice. I've sold loads of items outside of ebay, they've been advertised here as well and sold through here, at the end of the day any advertised item is still mine until the buyer pays for it.
