Basscentral and bass northwest are both really good, I've ordered my new fretless Modulus through Planetbass, they are really great.

I sold a case to Bernie, no problem at all, a great person to deal with.

I remember you talking about this at Christmas time, that's a neat job, well done. -
I'm afraid I'm going to give a very boring answer - learn the notes of the neck, learn chord construction ( eg what notes are in what chord ) and then apply this to the neck. This will help you in the long run much more than learning a bunch of shapes. It's a bit like the music version of the "teach a man to fish..." story Cheers Alun
+1000, having a good knowledge of musical theory is essential, as is knowing your way around the fingerboard. It helps if you can 'see' the chord notes, then you can just put your fingers where ever needed.
Yeah how good is the CD kev? Im probably gonna have some audio on this soon.Next month or so.
It's really good, and shows his playing off really well in a band situation. I'm going to book my place on his masterclass on Thursday. I'd like to hear some of your stuff on your 9.
Your reply makes you come across as the tosser to tell the truth, and very stuck up your own arse.
I don't think he comes across as anything but someone who's fed up with people making smug, and conceited remarks about HIS instrument. I recently bought a great CD by Yves Carbonne, http://www.alternityrecords.com/yvescarbonne.htm Essential listening for ERB lover and haters.

The declared UK mains voltage is 230V, it actually varies quite a bit, anywhere from 220V to 250V.

The Basscentre is no longer a shop.

What he said was that they were getting people going in and trying stuff then buying from the internet. -

The website site is terrible, it will let you buy a Markbass F1, but they don't actually have one in stock. They closed before Christmas, I was in there, it must have been the week before and there were no signs up or anything. The problem is, they sell stuff that the Gallery doesn't, so how are you supposed to try something before you buy it, they're advertising some expensive gear there. -
What a surprise, I phoned them today to enquire about a Markbass F1 head, I really wanted to try one. Now they only do internet and telephone sales from a warehouse opposite where they had their shop. So now the only bass shop is the Gallery.

That's a beautiful looking P bass.
I just had a slice of mine with a cup of tea. Nyum nyum. I can see where they are coming from with the description above, as it is easy to get the 'butter'. Probably the first amp that I have owned that did it really. Its like a smooth upper middle sound, when using the VLE and VPF controls. As opposed to VPL which is something entirely different. However whop those 2 controls down to zero and I think the amo is in Epifani/EBS territory. Pristine and crystal clear. I have renamed the VPF to 'The Ampeg Control', as it seems to do a good impression of my SVT as you advance round, especially with a bit of external dirt added. Too far round and you have a really deep scoop with boosted lows and highs. Seems like the right bit of middle gets scooped out too. One word that I do agree with though, is PUNCHY. Last night I disconnected my multicomp compressor. It hasnt got near the rack yet lol. The amp really will kick, not unlike my powersoft poweramp.. and that is 1K RMS a side!
Is it a neutral sounding amp, some amps, Thunderfunk for instance have a definite mid range bump to their voicing, I hate it when you have to get rid of something that's inherent to the sound before you find your sound. I use Accugroove cabs, I want something that's modern sounding, but is flexible, I found this earlier which sounds great http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QE3W58Q9dlM not my sound but it's cool, I'm into Michael Manring and Steve Lawson, that sort of thing, but I play in bands as well so flexibility is essential. I'm hoping to get along to the Basscentre next Saturday to audition one.

A major chord can be fingered as so - using C major as an example C index finger 13th fret on the B string, E middle finger 14th fret on the D string, and B little finger 16th fret on the G string. For a minor chord just move the middle and little fingers down a semi tone. For a dominant 7th chord use the same fingering as a major chord, but instead of playing the B with your little finger, play a Bb with your ring finger, for C7 obviously. Move the shapes about for other chords. There are many other ways, but I prefer this as you get a nice sort of piano vibe going on, sort of anyway. This is a good book http://www.amazon.co.uk/Chord-Bassics-Comp...2501&sr=8-9 It's designed for a 4 string bass, but you can use it just the same on a 6, try adding some octave root notes for a fuller sound.
*FANFARE* Just taken delivery of a Mark Bass F1 ;o) . I have a rack mount kit on its way, so will be putting it in a rack case with my TC Gforce. Nothing else! The amp, as you can see is sat upon an Epifani UL-610. Now, can I just take a few moments to dispell any myths. INCLUDING some preconceived views (yeh, mine too) on what this amp may sound like. I am the first to admit that MarkBass and I did not start off on the right foot. I tried a few MB rigs and just couldnt get on with the sound. I later found, much like Ampeg, all MB cabs have a 'tone' to them.. Sadly a tone I don't like. Now the Epifani does have it's own tone too.. infact, most cabs do in one way or another.. maybe the Epi is just less intrusive. So, anyway.. I thought there is NO WAY that such a small box can keep up with a LOUD band in a studio live room (yep.. a noisey environment). I can catagorically confirm this amp is tastefully LOUD LOUD LOUD.. and very HiFi clean too ;o) [edit] for info, it's 500W RMS into 4 Ohms I discovered the VLE andd VPF controls to be uber useful. I have renamed them to 'The Ampeg Control' - sounds a bit like a Sansamp when you go too far with them.. I suspect that was the idea! I may keep the 2k powersoft amp to use should I need to play the odd stadium with a set of 8x10's, but I am surprised and excited to say I may have finally arrived wih my gear. I shudder to think how much I have spent over the years, I really do. Oh.. and the F1 has a pair of purpley blue LEDs ;o) I must just say a big thankx to ma man Deano at The Bass Centre for being bl**dy brilliant and sorting me out with new toys AGAIN. I'll write a decent review when I get round to it!
How would you describe the sound of the head, I was reading the bassplayer magazine review last night, and they were waffling on about it having a "buttery sounding preamp, with toothsome mids, and a smooth syrupy top", sounds like they're describing a cake.

Crown XTi, they're fantastic things. They're digital (I think !), like on the Epifani heads, this means that the fans only come in when needed, so they stay nice and quiet for home practicing, they're also extremely light, something you need to bare in mind when you start a rack set up, they can very quickly become very heavy. . I've tried the cheaper Crown and QSC models, and found the fans to be very annoying, they tend to cut costs by using cheaper components, they also weigh a lot.
