Depends what sort of synth effect you mean. Do you have specific songs in mind for the sounds you want to make?
Yes, Cars by Gary Newman in particular. I know that there is a clean line in there and most of the bass is on an actual keyboard. Just looking to emulate something like. Of the general era?
I've got the Boss SYB-3 which is really good. Alot of folks prefer it to the SYB-5. I don't use it in my new band so I'd be willing to trade for the DHA if you fancy it. I personally think the tracking on the Boss is really good but there is a tiny bit of latency if your playing isn't very accurate (I quickly got used to this). The autowah settings are really good as well.
Hello mate, Im definately interested. A few things. Im hoping it's a lot better than my Boss ME50 synth sound on my multi effect. Ive use Boss for g****r for many years and always thought it was fine. For some reason the synth on the multi effect I have is rubbish! Also Im using the DHA adaptor for my Korg Pandora, so its just the pedal. Im not sure if there would be some adjustment because of this or it's more or less a swap. I haven't looked on the bay yet Ive just replied here first. Have a think and PM me. Cheers Mr Fudge

In the title really ... Looking for a stomp box that gives a reasonable synth effect. I know there are some mega expensive ones, Im looking to colour the odd 80's cover we do. I have a Boss ME50, which is pretty good except when it comes to the synth. I may be looking to swap/trade my DHA VT1 which I never use. That of course may be for another thread. Just looking for a bit of advice to start with please.

RUSH... NEC 1982/3?

Hi folks! As I imagine like many bass players here I started life off as a g*itarist. During these long winter I can't help get a bit self indulgent and attempt to play some of the guitar I loved in my youth (Youtube is great). Im especially into old Rush, Kim Mitchell, Van Halen and bits and pieces from late 70's again. In a nutshell Im looking for an amp/ effect I can put some headphones into and flail away like some 80's nerd throw back without upsetting the wife and kids too much. Ive looked on the bay and there is loads of stuff. Im after something small with a good range of effects and mains powered. It would be purely for use at home. I know zoom pioneered a lot of this stuff when I was a serious gu*tar player, but that has been decades ago and I dont know what is out there. Any suggestions, Ta in advance.
Been there 8 years ago. I was still having 'no warning' weepy fits six months later. Slightly embarrassing when you're down the pub. It's a life-changing experience - affects different people in different and (sometimes) unexpected ways. Fine now, but I probably should have signed up for bereavement counselling, rather than trying to tough it out. Could have saved a lot of time. [/quote My problem is I thought my old man was indestructable. Small Cell Lung Cancer killed him in 6 weeks start to finish, He had been ill but obviously kept it quiet. His Father was at Dunkirk and then murdered in 1943 embarking on a Greek beach. My kids worshipped him .. and so did I. f*** ....
That's really sad man. Try to keep positive. I wouldn't imagine your dad would want you feel like this.
Cheers mate ... Life will go on.
Sorry man. 69 is no great age. my dad is still around at 89, apart from being totally deaf and never sleeps from the tinnitus he's still good. life's a bitch.
Thats a good old age. God bless him.
Nothing impressive as BurritoBass. a local hotel, small but a good sound. our Keyboard is not well. threw up during the set. he has lost two stone in the last couple of months and is convinced he has cancer, the NHS is so slow so he is paying £400 for a scan. the sad thing is going private means you are using the sane scanner has the NHS but jumping the queue. so pushing other people back.
Christ I hope he is ok. My old man fell ill about 8 weeks ago. He was 69 and generally indestructable. He died 3 weeks ago tonight and I am still completely numb and in shock. I haven't really been here or anywhere else for the last three weeks. My band has been using a dep as I don't want to leave my wife or 3 kids alone for 1 minute. Im going to try and push on but I really loved the old bastard. Im 41 next week and 3 weeks later can end up in tears at the drop of a hat. sh*t ....

This may sound odd, but on rare occassions you can get a stinker of a string. I restrung my Jazz recently and the E string just wouldn't play ball. The intonation was so obviously out to the ear I wondered what the hell was wrong with my bass. Eventually I swapped it for another new one and everything was fine. I don't know why this happened but was very relieved it wasn't my bass. The strings were earnie ball super slinkys, so I dont know if there are a bad batch ou there?

My brother in law recorded some drums with Badly Drawn Boy last week if that counts.

Get a nice Fender Jazz Jap re-issue. Best value for money IMO

Bass Lines that everyone plays different
Mr Fudge replied to ironside1966's topic in General Discussion
I think you have to know where a bass player plays. I started playing bass many moons ago from a massive love of Rush. A Geddy line is usually well up the neck, probably more to cut through that wall of noise gigging 300 times a year when he started out. Back to the bollocks playing rather than grace under pressure. -

Who was playing a wedding at Minster Lovell on Saturday Night?
Mr Fudge replied to cd_david's topic in General Discussion
No. I was a guest at a wedding though. What have I won? -
Geddy Lee pretty much has the tone nailed for me. Rickenbacker, Wal, Steinberger or Fender Jazz makes little difference. You all know what he sounds like... P
Absolutely !!! which reinforces my theory that really no matter what bass or what rig (within standard set ups I imagine) 99.9% of sound comes from your fingers and attack.

I wish I could pull something like this out the bag at my next gig. I usually end up in a bouncing competition with the guitar player.
cheer mr fudge how do i tweek the neck and bridge?
http://garywillis.com/pages/bass/bassmanual/setupmanual.html This helped me. Very straight forward, which is important as I'm from West Bromwich. Seriously though if tou havn't done this kind of thing before be patient because you will get some great advise here. Good luck again.

Have you put on a perfectly straight neck??? You may have to put a bit of relief into your neck and give the truss rod a tweek. The saddles of course are a factor, but if you have no relief in the neck you are putting the horse before the cart. I have been tweeking and swapping necks for a year or 2 now and I have received some superb advise from very knowledgeable people on this forum. Im sure they will be along shortly. Don't panic and don't do anything too rash before you get some solid advice. Good luck .. It will all work out
Hey Zoe Great playing, I played this track in a covers band gig 3 weeks ago for charity and it's a toughie to play. We're now making an album of the gig to get more funds for the charity and we've recorded a version of hit me, when it's finished I'll stick a link up so you can hear my effort! I had the pleasure of seeing the Blockheads play a couple of weeks ago in Southwark park (South London) and they played it, sounded as great as it did the first time round! Well done for learning a real tricky bass line.. Great groove though eh? Geoff
I saw them in Dudley a few months back ... about 30 people there. Supported them with Phil Jupitis last year and 700 there. Obviously to do with the support band. I love the Blockheads ...
