1. I noticed there are some very steep prices on ebay for vintage Fenders still.
2.
Is it me?
Yes it is. We felt six years of carnage was not enough for you and would like to do it one more time. We will have an operative waiting stage right with your bag of flour. Jimmy Lea is a bit warmer in a regional way, and also the 70's would have been the heyday for our potential mystery guest. I am now offering a first prize of a banana for the first correct answer.
3. getting warmer. If only it was Craig from Bros.
4. better than Jaco.
5. The humble covers band I play with every week ( The Busby Babes) will be doing our annual Robin 2 gig in Bilston, near Wolverhampton this Saturday. This is our "Wembley Stadium" gig and have been able to fill the place (600 people) for the last 2 years. The proceedings from the event go to a local charity and the night is always about playing some great music, having a bit of a party and having lots and lots of fun. This year we MIGHT be joined for the last 3 songs by a very famous bass player. We will play 3 songs from his former bands canon to end the night. I wont know if this is definate until 6.30 on the night. If it happens I will of course post pics. Im reluctant to name him because I don't want egg on my face, or anything else for that matter if he is a no show. In true Dusty Bin style I would let you all now after the event. If he does turn up Im demoted to acoustic guitar and a spot of keyboards. Needless to say you are all invited and please feel free to speculate. See you all Saturday
6. I have the SA450. I generally run everythig flat. My Jazz basses usually supply thehigher end. I sometimes give the VLE a twist to about 9'oclock. This gets a bit too nonedescript (for my ears) if I go too far. I may give the VPF a bit as well but agree that you loose out in a band setting with this one. In a little pub/ setting I sometimes turn both filters off. I love the depth and power of my SA450 but in certain situations feel it is too clean. I have added a DHA valve drive to my board that works well with passive bass, but can be a bit hot when using my active marcus sig. nice thread for me, cheers.
7. Lenny Henry is a dick. end of ...
8. Really got into Bowie this last two weeks ... again ... First time was 30 years ago.
9. done enough for a 100 lifetimes. Stoppin' in with the kids.
10. Really don't know much about his spirituality, at the worst it means he's a "christian". Loved the vid, thyanks for posting. Reminds me of all those DLR gigs I went to in the 90's and hope to god VH come to the UK this year.
11. I have just added Geddy Lee and the Yorkshire Ripper to my kids Wii Mii, Im GOOD!
12. suits you sir .....
13. A bit embarassing to claim it as a build as I bought bits and put them together, probably more by luck than judgement .... I won a Jap P 62RI body on ebay for £70 and the rest is history. The pick ups were new "Wizard Thumpers". Treated myself to a Jap Jazz skinny neck from the states and everything else was a few quid here and there. Ive put a bit of relief into the neck and let things settle for a few days and it plays like a dream. As I said, probably more luck than judgement. The Thumpers will get a proper run out tomorrow when I gig, but I have a really good feeling about them from my practice amp.
14. After 20 something years of loving Spinal Tap I think for the first time I now truly understand where Derek's "Jazz Odessey" come from. "He wrote this!" Thank You, It would be interesting to ask Harry Shearer though?
15. Thank you for the link. This has been saved to my favourites. I have just been talking to a friend who gave me very similar advice. It may be that I just need to dress one of the frets. Will assess the relief of the neck fist. cheers.
16. I have just put together my first bass ( a jazz/ precision mongrel ) from various bits. I must say that I am highly delighted with the results bur have a few little buzz's on the D string 6th and 7th fret. I have raised the saddles a bit to compensate but I feel it leaves the action of the string too high and generally feeling wrong, if you know what I mean. Months ago when I was tinkering with my MM sig someone posted an excellent link on dabbling with truss rods and their effect. Needless to say I can't find it. I wondered whether my problem could be solved by putting a little relief into the neck. Would this be a slight anticlockwise turn. I can't remember. Any words of advice would of course be much appreciated. I will be posting pics of my mongrel soon and reviewing the wizard thumpers after I gig it on Saturday. I haven't had it through a rig yet! Cheers.
17. Jazz 75 RI. Does it get any better? I have a Marcus sig. If there is a better bass for me I would love someone to show me.
18. Geddy Lee is God! What a true great bass rock tone. The chickens are responsible for the tone as well as The main input "noisy bastard" aka his forefinger. I am a massive Rush fan if you have not already guessed.
19. bellboy by the who.
20. WoT are you at The Robin again? We are there on Sat January 10th. No support!
21. Pre kids I would be out as many nights as possible and New Years Eve was always a great payer but usually a major anticlimax. I like stopping in and just playing normal gigs on normal weekends these days.
22. Will this be on the Antiques Roadshow on Sunday?
23. Back in the day ..... I played Sunday League football for a team from West Brom's premier rough estate. My mate and I were the only 2 without "Wednesbury Skins" tatooed on our neck. So we used to biro it on before the game. I refer everyone in this thread to tatoo by The Who.
24. Nick Drake .... tunnings .... mmmmmm I love to do a bit of RT and Vincent Black Lightening. Every gig I do a lead stint on the guit*r before the first break. I think you have to have played guitar to some level to be a bass player. There is a can of worms.
25. Broke my arm when I first played it years ago. Now its all about the groove and enjoying playing it after all these years. If the drummer races away in the excitement you know you are playing it. Best delivered when you dont have to think about it.
