This looks like another interesting build to follow. It seems like our paths are forever crossing in this part of the forum! How are you going to divide the hardware between Hipshot and Gotoh? Hipshot bridge and Gotoh tuners? Or the other way around?
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/accessories/mighty-mite-mm2703-jazz-bass-replacement-body--burst-finish
That's definitely a poly finish and will never relic well in a short time. If I were you, I'd get a body made and finished by one of the many talented makers on this site. Browse the Build Threads part and ask a few. The Jazz I had finished by a gentleman in the US is starting to age nicely after a little under two years of mild yet frequent use. I'm in the middle of a P build (I'll do the painting myself this time) and expect it to be similarly aged after two years.

Warmoth Jazz 5 - swamp ash/zebra wood top. FINISHED!
Im not trying to be a stick in the mud or anything but would the control cover not have been better matched to the wood on the back of the body? the front looks gorgeous but the back looks like a bitsa sorry ill run and hide now.......
I like the continuation of the zebrawood theme. Yes, the cover could have been wood to match the back or another type of wood. It beats nasty black plastic. Run and hide! Run and hide! -
Very uncool of people to mistreat packages like that. Fingers crossed for a speedy replacement, all things considered.

Basschat Competition Bass (13 Guitar Co.) - CONCLUSION!
JimBobTTD replied to Skol303's topic in Build Diaries
Sounds good. I have also gone with Nordstrand pickups for my build after careful research - I just can't seem to find pickups which seem to be better at the moment. Hipshot A bridges are the business too; I have also gone for them as the one on my J5 is so smashing. -
Warmoth Build: Fretless Jazz Bass V, 60s styling, modern twist!
JimBobTTD replied to JimBobTTD's topic in Build Diaries
The plans have changed so much that I am closing this thread. But fear not! I have started another! -
I thought I had better start a new thread - the original plans have changed so much that the old thread is no longer valid. The new plan: a 5-string Precision, fretless. The neck and body are being made by BC's very own nugget. Neck: flamed maple, ebony (lined) fingerboard, Hipshot Ultralite tuners (chrome), Hipshot 3 & 2 string guides (chrome), finished in clear nitro gloss. Body: alder, front routed, Hipshot A bridge (.687"/17.5mm spacing, chrome), Nordstrand NP5 and NJ5F pickups, tortoise scratchplate, side-mounted jack. On the back: double battery box and gold ferrules. I shall finish the body myself in white. The bass will likely be wired up to be passive, but I want the option of having a preamp in there too. My Jazz has a battery box but is passive. The neck is going to be a clone of my Warmoth so I can swap the necks about. I shall be putting in a bolt system when they are done. Progress photos so far: Flame maple for the neck: Moulds being taken of my Warmoth: and that's all for now!

Presonus Firepod & Macs - a warning! (UPDATE POST 6)
JimBobTTD replied to JimBobTTD's topic in Accessories and Misc
I recently updated my OS to 10.8.3 and the Firepod now works. And it works well!!! -
Here are a couple of in-progress pics of the scratchplate. I tried spraying a black burst around it to hide some flaws in the edges, then I thought "you know what..." and just kept spraying black until only a little bit of the pattern showed through in the middle.
Aha, so that's how you did it. It looks great - like there is a "memory" of the pattern there. It's a really nice touch. Well done!

My Warmoth neck being measured in order to keep the same dimensions on the new fretless neck: -
Excellent stuff. Any more photos of the scratchplate? It looks brilliant!
Can you revert to Snow Leopard or whatever you were running before the upgrade?
Well, yeah, but that will probably cause more grief than simply selling the Firepod and buying the Firestudio and then pretty much not upgrading from Mountain Lion ever. -
Yup, beautiful. You seem to get your hands on the loveliest wood!

Warmoth Build: Fretless Jazz Bass V, 60s styling, modern twist!
JimBobTTD replied to JimBobTTD's topic in Build Diaries
Right... I have asked our very own nugget to make me a neck. I have sent my Warmoth neck to him which he will clone and then make me a fretless neck. Here is the wood he has selected: So plenty of flame, then! The ebony has not yet been sourced but is on the way. Happy days!!! -

***See my update at post 6*** It seems that Presonus Firepods are not compatible with the Mountain Lion (10.8.x) OS. A bit of trial and error at home and "a not inconsiderable" amount of time browsing the internet confirms this. Presonus's own website states that the Firepod is not compatible with OS 10.8. Be warned! Details, for those who doubt me or who are interested: iMac, mid 2011, no problems, running 10.8.2 - Firepod does not connect. LED on the front remains red. MacBook Pro, early 2011, no problems, running 10.7.5 - Firepod connects. LED on the front goes blue. Same cable as the iMac, same ports on the Firepod. PC - Firepod connects, works etc. Different cable. The bummer is that the MacBook is my work computer and I do not feel comfortable using it for personal stuff. The utter bummer is that I bought the iMac in early January to be my studio computer, replacing the PC I have used since 2006, and upgraded to Mountain Lion before I put anything on the computer. I then filled the computer with stuff but did not test the Firepod until just the other day. It might all be fixed in 10.8.3 if/when it is released but then, who knows?
