Great thanks for that. I did read that a hard wood neck helps... Like Bubinga. Not sure if that's a load of monkey balls. What's your neck made from?

Maple with a rosewood fingerboard. Whilst that I agree that a 35" neck has a tighter B string, the other strings are also tighter which I do not like.

All my basses are 34" and the B on all of them is fine.

One of my issues apart from serial GAS, is that I love playing lots of genres. I am not in a band because I get bored of playing one genre for too long. This affects my bass tastes and collection. The one thing that does not change is my want to cut through the mix like a knife.

I love Funk, Noise rock, doom, punk, death metal, gospel, prog etc.

Find a band or start one. Or two or three. You can play all the above genres with the same bass. I find I start thinking about chopping and changing basses when the band is on a break. GAS is musical boredom, I think.

  3. '78 here. I was born in early January. If my parents had popped out and bought a bass the same day, it would be a '77...just like my '77 Ibanez PJ.

Sadly, it only has four strings and is thus mostly gathering dust. I'd never sell it, though.

  4. ...and please offer your free gifts to everyone. It's a bit of a slap in the face that the mag can be sent anywhere in the world but strings/tshirts/straps can't.

Also, I see that there is no European postage rate option (only Rest of World surface or air mail). If I were to subscribe again, am I to subsidise non-European postage? Probably not, but I don't know that!

  5. Yup - this is why I run a small business on the side. I put in a few hours here and there and usually reinvest every penny I earn. I live off my salary from my proper job and enjoy the benefits of having a company (VAT, trade prices etc) without having the overheads and the worry.

  6. This old chestnut again...

Some people want to spend £7,000 on a bass, so Fodera do one for them.

Others may want a Fender. Fender make basses at lots of price points so if you want a Fender for a few grand, you can have one. The differences are, in the scheme of things, minimal. Want to be able to say you have a £2k Fender? You can. £500 Fender? Also possible.
