IMO you need a 15" bin to shift air for the deep grunty stuff and a 2 x 10" to define the upper mids and the leading edges. Build those into a combo with an amplifier and you've got more than I could be bothered to shift in one go. Plus the least wagon you'd need to move it is an estate car.

Exactly what I think. Add in the possibility to upgrade bits when wanted or needed.

  2. 20 years here, albeit with a hiatus. I now feel that I am beginning to begin to understand the instrument. I wish I had not wasted a few years on guitar and that I had spent more time with music in itself rather than just the genres I like.

  3. This will sound a bit unhelpful, but I recall reading a thread about this a while back (not sure which forum) and it is possible with a Hipshot, all other things being equal.

I was considering it myself on my Jazz V, but then realised that it would not be all that handy.

This ^^ - Dude, long lost twin or what! Small hands mean 34" for me and it can still have a good B. But dude -I have a real headstock snobbery thing going on.

Of the Fender-style instruments' headstocks: Fender=standard classic. EBMM=good. Lakland=ok-to-good. Ibanez Blazer=cool twist. Sandberg Californias=just about pulls it off. Overwater J=good. Tanglewater J=just allright. Yamaha BB=meh. G+L=too fussy. Sadowsky=limp. Alleva Coppolo=awful (like a Fender with a sock placed over it). Lull=wanna like em but the headstock=just no. It's all about the curve and the knob on the end, or lack thereof. How can some get it so wrong?

Have I gone too far with this? Should I get my coat?

This is pretty much exactly how I feel.

The Lull headstock reminds me far too much of this:

    Sorry!

In practice they mean a constantly changing impedance load on your pickups, which changes the sound coming from them. Buffered bypass is superior for consistent sound and to avoid the switching noise: http://www.tech21nyc.com/technotes/index.html

Link above is from a company which makes pedals. Not really unbiased stuff.

Whether true bypass is something you want is another discussion; it is a real thing and not simply a large switch or marketing bollocks.

Yes, it changes your pickups' impedance which, in turn, changes the sound coming from them. That is also why people buy pedals!

Probably too late to back out without seeming rude but as it's someone you know I would honestly say let the first one (if it is the first) heal before you allow for a second one. Just to make sure you're really happy with the quality (I don't know her background etc etc... might be pro, the quality DOES look good though).

Also because it is a hell of an ordeal for the body to go through. Give it a bit more time so you can recover. If you undergo another long session, you might make yourself ill.
