OH YES PLEASE!
2. Moi! Not Finnish, but born there, lived there until I was 18 months and now married to a Swedish-speaking Finn.
Where are the real Finns..? ...Yes, I know. Finland.
A huge number of them are in Sweden.
3. Send it back. For a number of reasons: 1) As said by many other members here, you don't like it and it will eat away at you. 2) It has a dead spot. Not one of my basses has a dead spot. This is not standard by any means unless I managed to get the 1 in a million bass. Twelve times. 3) The gap in the neck pocket is unacceptable to you. 4) Fender will never feel the need to improve their quality control (or just their quality...) if customers accept faults in their product.
4. The first bass I ever played was a Marlin. I seem to remember it as being shell pink with a scratchplate, but it might have been more like your bass. It was heavy. It also made me want to play bass.
5. I'd say no. Not that I have tried, mind. I'm having a hard enough time fitting a full-time job in with having a family, let alone playing bass. Perhaps when the children get older. Right now, I don't think it's possible to juggle a family with anything!
6. A few shops around here sell them. They're yet another low price Fender copy brand. The couple I played were definitely not worth playing, let alone buying.
7. Hello! Pics of the Ibanez 7-string, please. Sounds interesting!
8. It has been a while since I bothered picking up a Fender, but I recall the Squier feeling cheaper compared to the real deal. The wood seemed to be flimsier, the parts nasty and so on. The MIM was better by a country mile. But I picked up a Squier tele bass the other day which was very nice indeed, so things might be changing. What I wish is that Fender would do five string models to vintage spec. I'd love a 62P five string. Or a 57 style Jazz V. Well...they've released every possible model bar them, so they should be coming soon.
9. Going on what you have written, keep the Road Worn. It seems to be your perfect bass. If you sell it, you will miss it and regret it dearly.
10.
I got the most recent one, the bass sits fine but I notice over time that it slips slightly and I have to re-adjust regularly. It could be that I wear my basses very high and so need the neck to be pointing at a 45 degree angle. Its small complaint about an otherwise great bass
Ah...mine is the second version, the one that came out in the mid 90s before being discontinued. Excellent bass! Although I don't use it all that much.
11. I have no such problem with my SR1206. Which version do you have?
12. My magazine arrived yesterday, which is only a couple of days after most here and I'm overseas. Excellent start for the new owners!
13. I've ordered from them loads of times. Great place. Some EBay sellers can be cheaper when factoring in postage, though. Loads of parts for my Jazz Bass build come from them.
14. I used to use a Line6 Toneport UX2. Inexpensive and full of great stuff. I ran a 3.5mm wire with a quarter-inch adapter on one end from the PC to the Toneport so I got sound from the computer and the bass. This was a while back, though, so I am unsure I am being fully accurate. But it worked a treat. I have since expanded the system and still use the Toneport. It's a step above simply hooking up a bass to a laptop, but the benefits outweigh the hassle of an extra box.
15. Main band member (vocals and guitar) said that he is moving away and can't rehearse every week any more. Not a problem, really, except that we had just managed to get ourselves ready to gig. Now, we shall practice once a month (at best) and before gigs. But in reality, that's it, isn't it? The band was good. We were all at the same level, no egos...it will take time to find this again.
16. Saw Evan Dando solo about ten years ago and was unimpressed. His sound was poor and he totally failed to engage the audience.
17. Droooooooool! Looking forward to reading the full review.
18.
Well, two days have elapsed since I posed a fairly simple question. Perhaps the delay is because Mr iBassmag has not subscribed to the thread.
...which is why a load of BC users will not subscribe to iBassmagazine. The whole thing seems to have been launched without being planned or structured adequately.
19. Five strings for me. I moved from fours and I don't see myself moving back. Why would I? It contains a four string bass and had an extra string of opportunities. In one song my band does, I use the low C, low D an then the G (ie 8th fret) on the B string.
20.
Does everything really need a photo? If I put an ad up for a piece or rack equipment (like the Saffire Pro, I had up yesterday) if I say it's mint/as new/not a mark on it and it works, surely that's enough? If you have the level of trust to buy from someone on here, I think you're just as at risk if it has a photo in the listing. Basses and cabs, fair enough, there will 99% of the time be small blemishes to highlight, but I don't agree that everything needs a photo. I'd buy from a thread with a stock photo.
Yes. I think a photo for everything. "12u rack for studio" could be anything. Nextbestthing NBT03 offered but a photo would actually show that it is te NBT03a model...a photo removes a whole load of doubt, room for error and so forth.
21. I picked up my Chromes for £20 off eBay. New and in packet and including postage and packing. Shop around!
22. I'm using D'Addario Chromes on my Jazz V. They sound great. No experience of anything else with which to compare, though, so take that with a pinch of salt.
23.
to be honest, there's nothing that says to me that a USA Fender is a "real" one. they might have originally been the first one, but that doesn't mean that all the others are fake. it's like saying that all the classic Disney movies are fake.
I think some of the Disney films are fake. In some parts of the films, Donald Duck looks like a drawing! Unfunny joking aside, I agree. First does not mean best and does not mean others cannot also be original. Nevertheless, if I were to go down to one bass, I would choose my Warmoth Jazz V as it does all types of music and has the B string. But I couldn't do it. I play two very different types of music and my Warmoth does not cover what my Ibanez SR1205 does. The SR1205 does metal very well but not so much other styles of music; hence, I "need" both of them. Good luck in your quest, paul j h!
