[...] But IIRC there are one or two people for whom I have posted feedback who haven't reciprocated. No biggie, but it would be nice. (Sheds a manly tear).
I know what you mean. <cough> thethreeuserswhoboughtstuffoffmerecentlyandhavenotyetleftfeedback <cough>

If you pick it up on the way back from the festival, you can bring some chilli as a thank you gift and also avoid carrying your bass around clouds of wind.
I've never had a problem with my Pitchblack, and would recommend it over the Boss and Ashdown anyday!
Me too, and I'm amazed that there were problems tuning the E and B strings. I searched for a tuner which would handle the B and ideally lower. My PitchBlack handles the B tuned down to A, whereas my previous tuners would freeze on A - very infuriating when tuning to B if you were very flat. And mine seems to be made of metal and would likely survive a fire.

Chris bought a Jazz control plate off me - no problems at all. Thanks!

Another transaction with Mr Slobluesine - this time I sold him a Fender string retainer. Again, no problems. Thanks, John!

I sold a John East Preamp to Stu - no problems at all. And he let me know when it arrived too. Top bloke. Thanks!

In my element: and being still for a moment: and with my little girl: Bass by Ibanez, amp by Gallien-Krueger, baby by my wife and me. -
As long as you use the right power supply (ie AC or DC), 12v is 12v. No problems. I can't comment on customs, though - it depends on the reported cost of the pedal.

COMPLETED: Hardly used Ernie Ball 0.070 string (the D)
JimBobTTD replied to JimBobTTD's topic in Completed Items
Going in the bin soon...anyone? -
I have a hardly used set of Ernie Ball Power Slinky 5s which I shall be taking off my Warmoth Jazz V in a few days. They were put on to help put the bass together and have been used for about 45 minutes. The G string is knackered (due to my clumsiness) but the rest are ok. Their gauges are 70, 85, 105, 135 and are yours in a few days if you want them. Drop me a PM if you are interested. No charge. [EDIT: someone has taken me up on the offer now.]

Warmoth Build: Jazz Bass V, 60s styling, modern twist!
JimBobTTD replied to JimBobTTD's topic in Build Diaries
Since my last update, the string retainers have arrived and I have put them on. The headstock now looks like this: ...which was not as easy as I had thought. I used this pic as a reference but found that the Warmoth neck has slightly less space between the nut and the B-string tuner. Never mind. Right now, the bass is back on my bench. I have filed the nut on the B and E strings, but realised that the tools I have are not suitable for the other slots and I really want to do this properly. It is also hight time that I bought a proper set of files, so I did. When they arrive, I'll clean up the B and E slots and do the rest. The truss rod has been adjusted and the bridge saddles likewise. The bass plays really well (nut notwithstanding) and sounds great. It's a shame I had to drill into the beautiful white of the body for the scratchplate, but c'est la vie! -
Very nice fingerboard! I understand why you want to refinish the body. I'm a sucker for white, but sonic blue isn't really a million miles off the original colour. I'm looking forward to seeing your choices and watching this one progress.

Lovely!

Here is the deal: I put on a set of strings and cut them too short so they wouldn't stay on properly. I managed to rescue all of them except the D string, and bought a replacement. But I have a 5-string Jazz, so the D tuner is in the same spot as the G on a standard 4-string Fender. The extra inch or so may mean that this string will work on a 4-string. If you want the string, reply here that you want it (so then it is clear to everyone who was first), PM me your address and I'll send it along. No charge for the string. No charge for postage. No guarantees that it will work, though.

Without, says I. But if you do put one on, don't use that one. The shape is so-so, but the colour and pattern are awful!

I saw one of these in a shop a couple of years ago and had a play. It was a wonderful instrument with a great feel and, to be honest, I would have bought it on the spot if it weren't so heavy and, sadly, so expensive. The shop had it at £500+
Korg Pitchblack does me fine and I tune down to A

+1
And me. My earlier tuner - an Ibanez - couldn't handle anything below B. My Line 6 Toneport (computer soundcard) can't handle anything below Bb. I am very happy with my Pitchblack.

I'm selling off the parts which did not make it on to my Warmoth Jazz V build. First up, the John East J-Retro 01 Deluxe preamp. [SOLD] Outside: Inside: This didn't get used because it is designed for a Fender and not a Warmoth. I'm sure it is great - people on here rave about them - but it would not have fit my bass. I bought this here for £110 delivered, so I'll offer it to the masses for the same amount. It comes with a box (not the box, but a box) and some hand-written wiring instructions from a previous owner. Thorough info on what it can do can be found here. It's a real shame that it didn't fit my Warmoth because this is exactly what I wanted! £110 delivered. SOLD. Next up, some Fender string retainers.ONE SOLD, ONE STILL AVAILABLE These were not used because I decided to go for Hipshot retainers. £4 each delivered, or £7 for both. [BOTH SOLD] Finally, a Fender Jazz Control Plate [SOLD] This is a Fender part. I bought it, took it out of its packaging for sizing/measuring purposes, saw that it didn't fit the Warmoth scratchplate, and didn't use it. So it is unused, but out of its packaging. It has also been covered in my fingerprints but I have wiped them off with my t-shirt. Screws included. No extra charge for any traces of my finger oils on the plate. £10 delivered. SOLD

Warmoth Build: Jazz Bass V, 60s styling, modern twist!
JimBobTTD replied to JimBobTTD's topic in Build Diaries
Bass wired up. I haven't played a passive bass in years. The bass sounds great. I had a good play for a bit, but...
Strings are on the bass going through the body. I don't quite know how, but I put the strings on really badly. I cut them too short and so there are not even a full winding on the posts for most of them.
...then the D string started playing up again and will not say tuned at all. I really cannot believe I managed to knacker an entire set of strings. What was I thinking? Was I so tired that my you-are-too-tired-to-be-doing-this senses were closed? I took off the D string and put it on the bridge, but it still won't stay on the tuner. The E string rattles too and needs a retainer. Anyway, all done except for the string retainers which have now been ordered. I have a set of D'Addario Chromes which I shall put on when the string retainers get here. Then a thorough setup is needed - the nut needs filing, truss rod needs a good tweak, bridge needs adjusting and so on. She's a real looker. Pictures when everything is done and dusted. Edit to add:
I have a blues project on the horizon [...]
Which, as of Tuesday, is not going to happen. But I shall make another happen! -
Pro tip. Get one of the above and then get a sweatband as well. Slide the sweatband on to the end of your strap and then up so it covers the transmitter and holder. Job done.
Why? Anyway, like I said, I just clip it on my belt. I feel more comfortable having it on my body rather than on my strap.

Warmoth Build: Jazz Bass V, 60s styling, modern twist!
JimBobTTD replied to JimBobTTD's topic in Build Diaries
Looks nice. You're always going to get problems fitting a bass together for the first time. It's just the way things work.
Not really. This is Warmoth - the company which claims to do Fender direct replacements etc. I was a little disappointed that my Fender plate did not fit, as it meant that I needed to get the Warmoth one after I had already done all the ordering, postage costs and all that. Now, my first build, that was a whole other story. I bought bits and bobs from all sorts of places and made by all sorts of different companies and everything fit together. It wasn't until years later that I had learned enough to realise how amazingly lucky I was!
