And then there's good old xenophobia
I think that is the answer to owen's question. The perception that everyone foreign is out to rip you off. It shows poor upbringing and a lack of education and is a mindset to be pitied. The courier thing is them messing you around. If I pay DHL to ship a package for me and it arrives broken, I call DHL. I don't care which company is responsible, DHL were paid and trusted to send a package and are therefore liable. I have never understood the idea of not selling to people from other countries. I will gladly take anyone's money, and see this not as good business, but as business. Anything else is bad business!

Hello During the summer, I received a couple of EMG 40TW pickups which I suspect are dodgy. I know everyone thinks their wiring is perfect etc etc, but I know my wiring was perfect. I even tested them without pots, with fresh batteries and so on. Anyway, I am looking for someone who uses these pickups. The idea is that you would swap out one which you have in your bass where it works 100% and put in one of mine and tell me if it works or not. This means that you would need to have ones with the quick-connect cables to reduce the number of variables. I would send you the two I have and you would test them and send them back to me. All postage costs would be covered by me, of course, and I would chuck in enough for a couple of pints. Any takers? No psychos or anyone planning on ripping me off, please! Thanks for reading!

Nice. What is the body like now that it has been routed for the new pickups? Warmoth, for example, will not do EMG 40-size neck pickups (EMG 40s are 102x38mm) on their top-routed bodies. How big are those pickups?

I've been following this thread. This is pretty much exactly what I am considering at the moment...I am tempted to ask the two gentlemen above for quotes of my own! Keep us posted. Hope your neck arrives soon.

Another positive experience from me. Sent out two EMG LJ5 pickups very quickly and packed like a pro. Thanks!

Nice area...I am in Kumla (the town, not the prison).

5 for me. I do have a 6 but I'm finding the combined width and thinness of the neck uncomfortable, so I'm pretty much only playing 5s except for noodling at home.

I have mine (Korg Pitchblack) last so I can mute any extra noise from distortion pedals (although my whole rig is really quiet, even in a poorly earthed rehearsal space). If I were to get delays like the post above, I might consider moving it.

Deadlight Designs says hello from the SE of London....

I met Rob a couple of years ago when he popped round to my parents' house to pick up a guitar body he had bought off me on Ebay, what with my folks living so near to Wallington and all. If my memory serves me well, he arrived on a bicycle. My plane had been delayed and I had been worried that I would not be there to make our arranged rendezvous but it all went swimmingly. Anyway...Hi Rob! Like the honourable silddx above, I too appreciate your work. Welcome to Basschat. -
Is it me or is the SRT just the old SR shape?
They are all neck-through basses, I believe. I don't think there are any in the standard SR range. I'd rather they didn't have curved backs, though.
Is there some sort of Ibanez serial register (the one like Warwick has on their website), where I can type my bass serial number, and get some more info about it - what year was it made, specs, and such?
http://www.guitardaterproject.org/ibanez.aspx : Factory & year provided off a serial number. The wear looks honest to me, so I'd opt for "mojo". However, in a couple of those photos, the strings look like they are from 1983 too - I'd change them before selling! Sorry, can't even begin to guess the value.

A lot of the above sounds a bit complicated. I use a Line 6 Toneport connected to my computer. £100 mine cost me and I use it for recording too. As for earphones, I use a set of Sony MDR-XD300 and I find them ace.

I play it in the cheesy pop/rock covers band I'm in. We have a keyboard player, so I just do the root notes and throw in an occasional octave - nothing too fancy, but I'm "singing" backing vocals too. I use a 5-string and use the low D. It's actually my favourite song we do, but that's mostly because the singer has a real problem with singing "me and my baby in a 69" in the outro bit.
Click on the video to pause it. Easy peasy.
True, but if Ashdown were to have it as an option, it would be easier peasier.

Thanks for the pics, Largo. Very nice indeed!
How does a "through" neck feel different to a "bolt on" neck? And does that make a difference when you're pounding away on a shuffle below the 5th fret!
It's all smoke and mirrors and snake oil and Emperor's new clothes and all that, but I feel more resonance in a neck-through which gives me the overall feel of a more organic instrument. It makes a huge difference wherever I am playing on the neck as I feel it more; I feel the instrument more. It probably wouldn't make the band sound different if I had a standard Fender, though!
