1. I love EMGs. I love how they look, but more importantly, I love how they sound. I have a 40CS and a 40DC in my main bass and I'm debating putting in two 40Ps in my backup.

    But....

I usually rest my thumb on the pickups. EMGs have a bit removed for the screw, as in this:

and I find it really rather uncomfortable. I don't want to put a thumbrest on the bass as this would move my thumb higher than it wants to be, which is on the pickup. Sticking blutack there is a possible solution, but will probably not be very effective and I don't think I'd want something sticky there. Filling the gap with a more permanent solution will mean I can't access the screw.

Any ideas? I suppose even other pickups might be a good idea, but I'll need that EMG sound which, I assume, is only available from EMG!

I suggest you find a case with sliding, completely adjustable fixings.
I got one of them - a Rockcase. Very sturdy piece of kit, and quite generous too. My 6u rack takes the six units and has wiggle room for some cables to go between a couple of units. Nice. Scored it from Music Town in Germany who were the cheapest at the time (for Sweden).

  3. I've played all the main makes of bass in playing life. My first bass was an Ibanez PJ and I haven't sold it because it is so special. My two basses which I use are both Ibanez. Basically, I'm persistent and patient enough* to be able to get any bass I want, and Ibanez are the basses I want.

*But not rich enough, sadly, to do this without a long waiting period.

  4. I have had four Ibanezes during my tenure - three I still have now. I only sold the fourth because of a move to five strings. I couldn't bear to let my first Ibby go. I can't sing their praises enough. I upgraded my SR1205 with EMGs and EMG electronics and I have my perfect bass. The SR shape is perfect for me and I love the necks. My 705 has a flattish neck and the 1205 has a thicker, chunkier affair. Love them both. Love them both more than the Fender P.

  5. I recall an internet posting which showed how the J pup's position had changed on PJ basses (or perhaps even J basses too, I'm not sure). I don't remember there being anything similar about the P position.

    This must be true, because:

    1. I read it on the interweb
    2. I remember it that way.

  6. Aria Pro II fretless 6 string!

This was bought from EUROSTEVE a while back for £175 - the old ad is here.

I have not even played it yet. Why am I selling?

Well, it is in South London (Sutton) with my parents and I shall be visiting them 20-28 Feb. I would like to play it then, but if I get on with fretless, I'd like something a bit more posh, and if I don't get along with fretless, well...

Please see the old ad for some more pics. I have no specs other than bot-on, lined, 6-string and "mint condition" (from Eurosteve) and "nice" (my dad).

You can come and collect it or I can fix up a courier for you - but please, not before I've had a chance to have a go on it!

I'll let this go for £175 Can't say much fairer than that.

  7. 8u Rack for sale in fetching silver!

This is quite a behemoth, measuring 15 x 20 x 20½" with all the lids on. I recall the lid being a bit over an inch deep.

I bought this a couple of years ago, and was going to take it with me to Sweden. But I couldn't get it and my suitcase in the boot of my dad's motor, so it stayed behind in my parents' living room. No wonder my pops was so eager to help me sell it and took the photos below very quickly after I asked him.

Cosmetically, it is in ok condition. It is new and unused, but there is a scratch on one of the sides (ie top, bottom or sides) which has rusted a little.

It is in Sutton and can be collected or delivered.

I shall be in Sutton 20-28th Feb, so if you want a good conversation with an intelligent gentleman, make sure my father is there when you come round! You can collect whenever, but courier delivery can't really (although it could) be arranged before then.

I'll let this go for £25
