This looks the business. I'm going to order one as soon as I can find somewhere which has honest EU postage costs!

I've used the EMG BTC. I don't know if I would describe it as unnatural sounding or harsh. I had it in a restoration project. I remember it being very powerful and I kept it mostly flat or just either side of it. Unfortunately, the bass itself (a Burny Mockingbird) was not what I had hoped for shape-wise, so I got rid of it very soon after I had put in considerable time, effort and cash into reanimating it. It sounded awesome, though. It had 2 EMG P pickups, 3-way switch, 2 volumes and the BTC, wired to 18v. I don't think I had it long enough to be able to give a good review of it. If you can get it cheaply, I would suggest giving it a try. I wouldn't pay full whack for it.

Aching sense of loss. Selling gear...we have to, though, right?

But that's what the guy was called! I feel less bad about it now. I shall miss my SRX500, but I won't cry at night or naffink. -
I just received a pedal from slobluesine - and a nice smooth transaction it was too. He even included the battery! Cheers John!

It really depends on how much "a few quid" is. Mind you, where I am now, I can only really buy stuff online. Also, almost everything I am interested in isn't made any more and seldom available in the shops.

I just bought this from slobluesine - original thread here. It has velcro on the back, so it will fit on your pedalboard with minimal fuss. It isn't for me, though. Looking to get pretty much what I paid for it - £100 posted, and there's even a Duracell in there. I'm looking for some EMG stuff, so I would gladly entertain some trades. Shame, really. I wanted to like it, but I think my "sound" is clean bass. Pictures:

I just watched a smiling gentleman walk out of my home with [s]my[/s] his Ibanez bass. We had a nice time - he came over, plugged in to my rig (which sounded GREAT) and noodled a bit. He's a guitarist, and this is his first bass, so he gave it back to me to hear me play it. We then talked about basses, about guitars, about music and all that. He gave me some money. It's not that I regret it, not at all. I have a different bass, and the one he has taken had not been used in months. On top of that, I find myself more comfortable with five strings, and that one had four. But it was once my number one bass. We played together in my last (very short-lived) band. Ibanez SRX-500: Enjoy your new life with Sebastian. We had fun together. And you have helped offset the costs of the new Ibanez SR1205 which is on the way. So, thanks for that. Bye.

Source for 50k log/audio taper push-pull pot?

Cheers! I'll have a look. I don't think they are easily available (ie reasonably priced), so I am toying with the idea of altering the project. -

Thanks Skywalker83 - but they are all linear, not log/audio. -
Pickups and preamp for my Ibanez. It has a great feel and unplugged sound, but the stock pickups and pre are a bit lame. GAS is minimal now. I have my Ibby and my dream Ibby on the way (although I think it may be lost in the post ) and a decent rig. Some major expenses in the pipeline too: driving lessons, car, house...no gear purchases for a good while!
Excellent, I'll be off to the shop then...
Hold on...I don't think it is out yet. Subscribers get it early. BGM's website says it isn't out until the 31st. Earlier on I wrote that I couldn't extend my subscription due to an error on their website - it's because I have a non-standard letter in my address (Ö, in case anyone was interested).

I'm in a slight acquisition phase...please leave feedback here, even from older transactions. Y'know, to make me look good!

Just received an EMG 40DC from The Bass Doc. Let me know what was going on every step of the way and seems to be a nice chap. Thanks!

I have one. It's a great bass with a great feel. Be advised that the pickups are not standard size and are very hot. Great for metal and hard rock, a bit overly untamed for other styles of music. I am selling mine, though, as I have gone over to five strings. If you think you'll like it, I'm sure you'll really enjoy the bass. I loved mine and am a bit sad with it being up for grabs, but that's the way it goes!

Just to make it clear, if anyone wanted to sell these for profit, they could. The name "Woolly Mammoth" is (most likely) copyrighted, and anything too close may get them in trouble. However, the circuit is public domain. The only potential problem with cloning pedals and selling them is CE marking.
Had a look at the new issue in WH Smiths. Still the same Jazz Fushion players, Warwick and Fender catalogues, high end basses and waffle.
I agree about the same jazz players, but I assume that some people are interested and know who they are. I only recognise their names because I've read interviews with them in earlier issues of the magazine, or they write columns in BGM. Other than Marcus Miller, because I saw him in a Fender catalogue (and wondered who he was and why he deserved a signature bass).
-
I too agree that the newer issue was much better - much better, the unaffordable gear notwithstanding. They still need to sort out the grammar in the magazine (see scores of earlier posts, seemingly ignored by BGM - did any of them go to school?). For my sins, I decided to renew my subscription. However, the BGM renewal website does not work (perchance only for EU subs). I informed the subscriptions manager on Thursday but she has not responded yet. Now, is this for my sins, or for my good deeds?

My understanding is that it is not illegal to clone a production pedal at all. There is no copyright on analogue circuits (as placing components after one another is a logical step, not a great display of creativity), only on actual PCB designs. Ergo, there is no law stopping anyone from reverse engineering a pedal and making clones and selling them for profit. "My understanding". Not sure where I picked up this info, but I'm 90% sure of it. Edit to add: a schematic is copyrighted as it is a drawing, but the actual circuit is not copyrighted. Or something. I've made a bundle of pedals for my guitar. Distortions, overdrives, delay, chorus, phase...it's great fun.

Source for 50k log/audio taper push-pull pot?
JimBobTTD replied to JimBobTTD's topic in Repairs and Technical
Cheers - no problems finding 50k pots, even though they are unusual. I couldn't find a 47k push-pull at all, linear or log, but I found a couple of 50k linear push-pull. I found a 50k log with an SPDT, but I need DPDT. Something tells me I won't find one, but I haven't given up hope yet! -

Hello Title says it all, really. Does anyone have an audio 50k push-pull pot? They are often called A50k, but annoyingly the codes are not universal, and cannot really be trusted. There are some on eBay right now, but they are linear. This is (or could be - if I find one) going to be used as a master volume for an EMG BQC kit. The standard kit has a 50k master volume pot, and I plan to use an EMG 40DC and a 40TW (coil split) with it. Drilling a hole for a toggle switch is not an option. Any help would be most appreciated!
