1. picked up an excellent condition Squier Standard Jazz Bazz (in Shoreline Gold) from the local Crack Converters on crimbo eve for £60 so another +1 1049.5
2.
Keep it on topic please. Racist terms really have nothing to do with OT. If you wish to discuss racism in depth please start a new topic in the Off-Topic forum, but expect it to be heavily moderated.
Oh, so just because you're from Solihull (oh arn't we posh) you think that you can look down on the rest of us and push us around? - damn racist! ....keeping on topic - the ones that have the 'Ashdown' badge on them are the dodgy ones - go for the ones with the name 'Trace' on them if you want the good stuff seriously though, to the original posting, you (and possibly your band) know what sound you like/will fit, let your ears be the judge
3.
..........If people call us Brits 'cos we're from Britain, what should we call the Chinese people?...That withstanding, I DO apologise for any offence caused...
how dare you insult me by refering to me as a 'Brit'! personally, I think all this PCness is totally arse why is it that words which are used in a descriptive manner are continually compromised so much giving people who seem to have no sense of levity to start shouting 'racist!' - do you not think that it could be creating an intolerant society by restricting free speech? of course there is a need for responsible use of the language but this minefield of mentioning colour or creed is just stupid target the real issues rather than taking the easy option - i remember reading a quote somewhere about the way animal rights protesters seem to attack lone women in fur rather than taking on a gang of bikers in leather yeah, i'm very much against racism, and yeah, with me and my family being victims ourselves I do have an idea of how it feels get it in perspective
4. I'm no fan of Ashdowns, although I've heard some sweet sounds come out of some of them, just as a general rule they are wooly and just not a nice sound (subjective), conversely a bassist has to work hard to make a Trace sound bad ...just my opinion of course
5. Laney RBC115 250W 8Ohm Seems to be the same dimensions as the current jobbie and certainly looks like the newer stuff - carpet in good condition, some paint scratched off logo (have resisted urge to do a tippex repair), grill in good condition. Sounds nice, from what I've found on t'internet it's got a HH driver inside Wanting £75 - to be collected from Swindon (pics to be added later)
6. stop buying stuff in the deluded belief that it helps (plus sell the stuff not being used) and start working hard with what I have
7. sanity and my existance to the end of the end of the festive period would be nice looking forward to new year - fresh start and all that
8. I can't help you - I'm a hoarder
9. ok - I have a confession to make I, yesterday, for a few minutes, did actually consider the idea of using Hammerite (yes the original black hammered effect finish) For this potential atrocity I apologise wholeheartedly! Have come to the conclusion if I do go down the refinish route it will be natural That said, after a recent communication from the Inland Revenue, sadly a sale seems probable

11. Sad to say that you're rig is now beyond repair and is worthless, as I'm such a kind hearted guy I'll give you £20 for it and even cover the courier costs Seriously, I wouldn't worry about it - you could always carry a spare (fuse not combo) in your bag for piece of mind. Additionally, replacing your regular 4-way block with a surge protector one is always a good idea
12. Also, if you already have a well defined sound, and you've settled on your effects, pre-amps, amps and cabs then my guess is that you'll already know exactly what you are looking for in a bass I'm still in my first year of playing and am working with what suits me today, I was fairly indifferent about Trace stuff and only bought the gear because I got it at a damn good price but when I plugged my bass in it sounded sooooooooo sweet I've not dared alter the eq settings as yet I realise that I have a lot to learn and my sound will change as I learn more about it and can develop the ability to do something about it, the main thing that matters to me at the moment in having a bass that fits like a glove such that I can play it rather than wrestle with it
13.
I only wish I could open ebay liks from work. It's so frustrating!
+1
14. Our standard split is 40% for us, 40% headline, 20% support and the opener plays for free, if it's a low turn out then we don't take anything to ensure that the travel costs of the headline are addressed. We charge £3 on the door, the venue takes the bar and provides door staff, we promote and we covered the cost of setting up the PA system (we don't look to cover the costs of this - just to cover maintenance, new leads, stands etc) - we came to the conclusion very quickly that we needed to be in it for the love of it, certainly not the money
15. okies - am now considering just stripping it back and going for a natural finish - seems a better (easier) idea am rather in the dark with such things so really would appreciate any advice
16.
I managed to get a new bass for the wife last week.......... I thought it was quite a fair swap to be honest.
Yeah - you would! - I want my bass back!
17. I'd stongly suggest going to a bass shop and having a good mess around with different basses to see what you like the feel of I've bought a few Peavey Dynabasses (see sig) as I've yet to find a 'better' bass that suits me as well (I wanna try a Tobias though), in a way I feel like I'm missing out as I'm not able to pull a 'ooohhh' bass out of my case (that said, how many in the audience would know anyway?) but what matters most is how well you can play it and getting something that you are comfortable with is paramount. If you then come back on here and say something like 'I loved the feel of a Fender Jazz Aerodyne but....<insert downside here>' then I'm sure there will be some excellent advice to point you in the right direction. As for now, I'd say have a look at the new Peaveys (I've not tried one as yet) but they look like a damn good bass for the money, also you'll not go wrong with a Yamaha (as mentioned)
18.
Hi Darren Yea would of been good on the 13th. Our last gig there was I think on the first night you ran. But we will return. Steve
It was indeed (1st March) - but fear not, things have progressed a hell of a lot since then ....and if I remember correctly you were wearing a Nobodys Heroes t-shirt (who just happen to be playing on the 13th)
19.
Hi all, Have been lurking for a long time (anyone remember Bassworld?), thought i should say hello. Hello. Have been playing on and off for years and am in a Punk/Ska/Indie/PsychoBilly band (www.thekillertones.com). Am using a AeroDyne through a GK 1001 into Mark Bass 4x10 and 2x10 cabs. Though have just got hold of an Ashdown 1150w Head so am thinking of changing for a couple of Aguilar GS 2x12's. Have always thought this was a top site and have picked up loads of hints along the way. Cheers Steve
Heya Steve Welcome aboard! Good to have another Swindonite on here Darren P.S. Pity you couldn't do the gig on the 13th for us - have fun in the studio
20. am wanting but after opening the letter from the Inland Revenue this morning I'm now very much in sell mode if you still have it in a week or so (depending on how the sales go) then I'd be looking to take it off your hands
21.
Show us some photo's then, so we can make our minds up.
photos added
22. aaarrrggghhh - you got it! I saw it, went for it, missed it I love FAL stuff so if you find yourself not using it then I'll take it off your hands My FAL gear: Merlin 50 combo C-40 T combo PA150 head I've been using the PA150 as a bass head for a while - sound sweet using a tube pre-amp (art tube mp / behringer mic200). The Merlin is the guitar combo I always use (in favour of a Marshall and other combo I have) even though the 12" driver is very near death. Never had the joy of using the FAL valve stuff though
23.
What a good idea, i've never heard of this before!
Nor had I until I got one from The Flaming Moes (Sweden) earlier this year
