that's a damn good price, and you have the logic when you tell your wife that you can easily profit from it..... ....hang on - did I say 'logic' and 'wife' in the same sentence? best of luck -

yeah, c'mon - be fair - I can't concentrate on my work with the suspense! -
okies - was very tempted by this the first time around so but as I bought a 'new' car yesterday, it's gonna be hard to justify this, nonetheless - am tempted Please excuse the relative noobieness but what exacty is a 'Bitsa' - I'm assuming that it means that it's been made up from bits of other basses. I'm in love with the look of the bass but really don't like the idea of the plastic strings - I'm assuming that there is no issues (apart from truss rod adjustment) in putting on a set of regular strings. Finally, is there a significant difference (in terms of playabilty) between this and a regular Jazz?

Woohoo!!! - bloody well done! Nice to hear some good news this Monday morning -
PS: there is a B&Q in Stourbridge; it's on the Ring Road just by the cop shop, and the nearest B&Q Warehouse would probably be Mucklow Hill in Halesowen...... for those of you who may have been wondering!
There is indeedy - I used to work there in the late 80's, also never went hungry as my mum was the head cook in the cop shop canteen at the time - Then moved to become the warehouseman in the Halesowen branch (was on Long Lane then) - then left that to work in Do-It-All on Mucklow Hill

A mic is a good idea - I always dual channel the bass (DI+mic) generally pushing more low end on the DI and leaving the mic more or less flat (sometimes pushing the highs). I have to give credit to Peter Perrett Jr (Love Minus Zero) for this method as it's what we did when they played at our venue and the bass sounded so sweet I've been doing the same thing ever since. So, when DI'ing the bass ask the sound guy if he has a spare channel (never known anyone to say no) and when he says yes tell him to put a mic up your cab and dual channel your bass - any sound guy that this technique is new to will generally thank you as it gives more control FOH to get the sound right
My live setuip is usually fairly straightforward: Head, cab, tuner and distortion pedal. However, the latter sometimes causes issues live by producing a horrible feedback sound over the distortion, so I was hoping to draw on the collective wisdom of this place. The offending item is an Ibanez Phat Head Bass Overdrive, and whilst I've never had any issues with it in rehearsals, if the setup is put through a DI onstage, about 50% of the time it does the squeaky thing and I end up not using it. I'm sure there is a simple answer, but for some reason (and feel free to berate me if it is simple!), I haven't found it ... Heeeeelp!
Might well be that the signal that you're sending to the desk is clipping too much. I also use a PD7 but not had such issues, mine tends to live on the blues overdrive settings as prescribed in the manual (but with a bit more level). Putting my 'sound guy' head on, are you using the DI from your head or one suppiled by the venue? - with my 'old and wierd' rig I'm using a old FAL 150w head and either a ART Tube MP or Behringer MIC200 (as the ART is starting to misbehave) as the preamp, whilst I can use the preamp as a DI, I find it better to use a seperate DI unit (Behringer DI100) and talk the line out from the head into it (making it 100% post everthing) and set the attenuation accordingly. The reason why I started doing this is because the vast majority of the time when taking the DI from the head it clips far too much - by ensuring that the desk get a much more manageable signal means that everyone is happier and all works much better hope this helps

for the sake of £5 I'd certainly take it

Oh wow - have seen (well heard) the light (hmmm...does that work?)! Used the TE at rehearsals last night and what a difference - really didn't appreciate what a difference it could make! (up till now was mainly using a Cobra 90 combo for rehearsals) Sooooo happy that I made the 'right' choice! - thanks again for the advice D

Got the TE GP7 Series 6 yesterday (1x15 combo with a 1x15 extention cab) for a bit over £200 (very pleased), it's seen some action in it's time but works perfectly - am rather happy I've kinda overstepped the mark and as I now too much bass amp kit (4 rigs) so guess that I'm going to have to sell some stuff (something I seem to find very hard to do) and buy the missus a new ride or something. I suppose the first thing that'll have to go is my Laney RBC115 - will list it as soon as I've got some photos

Just to let anyone who might be looking for some Grolsch strap locks, that I found some of the good stuff in the 'correct' bottles in a 'One Stop' mini store thingy http://www.onestop.co.uk/

Fantasic ebayer, quick delivery, well packed, great comms - highly recommended!!! ooops - wrong site - but you get the idea bought a leatherman PST and Micra - very happy

For me it's the Peavey Dynabass (International Series), very sweet thin neck. I'm a big guy (6'7" 26st) so have some problems getting a bass to 'fit', have tried many basses but only feel 'at one' with the dynabass - so much so that I've just bought a 2nd one

I also use a 16/4 as my main snake, also have a 10/2 (modified 8/4). I do things a little differently in the fact that I keep the amps FOH and use 6 long cables (2 for tops, 2 for bins and 2 for monitor groups 1 and 2), monitor groups 3 and 4 are using active speakers and take two return channels on the snake. Works for me and means I have two space channels in reserve on my main snake

FWIW, I sent this to Dolphin Music: "Hiya Like many others I'm interested in doing some recording, after a few conversations and reading guide on the internet (including your one - btw you have a typo in the PCI bit 'still going string' should presumably read 'still going strong') I'm still struggling to find exactly what I want. I'm using a StudioMaster Proline Gold 16-8-16 mixer, so I have no need of pre-amps on my audio interface, for the type of recording that I'll do (generally live sessions) I'll be using the group outputs so my audio interface will need 8 channels (in reality only 6 are needed). I'll be using a laptop so need either PCMCIA or USB interface. Any suggestions? Cheers Darren" ...and got this reply: "Hello Darren. Thank you for your email. The best option for you to go to would be the MOTU 828 mkII USB soundcard. Herewith I'm sending the link to the product on our website. http://www.dolphinmusic.co.uk/page/shop/fl...product_id/8477 If you decide to go ahead with the order, please call me...." Looks like a nice bit of kit

Hmmm, prolly not what you have in mind but might be of interest. I have a 600W rig that I 'share' with my PA system. (prices approx. 2nd hand, not inc delivery) head: behringer v-amp pro (£70) behringer compressor/gate (£40) DAP Radon 600 Power amp (£60) 6u rackbag (£30) cabs: 2 x Peavey PRO-SUB 1 x 15's (£220 new) Very versatile on sounds and just a bit over £400 The bass bins are bulky but not heavy Looks good but prolly overkill for the venues you have in mind

Keep thinking about what to do with this, ideas have gone from upgrading the hardware to ripping out the frets, thinking now that it might be an idea to let someone else have a play Vester Stage Series, originates from sometime in the 70's (before Fender put a stop to them), seems to be a copy of a 60's Jazz, not bad condition (but that good either). have recently put GHS boomers on it and have replacement electrics (although the ones in there do work) but not fitted them as yet (bought to replace the chrome panel mainly). Anyone interested? - not too sure on the value (pics to follow)

am i missing something here - how many of the audience would have a clue who Jaco, Myung or even what kinda guitar Vai plays? I've only been playing seriously for less than 6 months, have done a couple of gigs, can get through the set. I'm studying and learning loads as I go along, I don't have a clue what Myung plays, the only reason that I know anything about Vai's hardware is because the guitarist of a band i used to manage made me sit through an afternoon of Vai, and a few weeks ago I was admiring the fretless of one of the bands I was doing the sound for and it was only then that I was made aware what a Jaco bass looks like. Reality is that if you're using something big/unusual/pretentious then people might make preconceptions - but this has very little to do with your instrument being unique or mass produced. That said, of course you have to feel comfortable with it and if the one in however many chance of someone actually being aware of the instrument bothers you then fair enough - but it's certainly not a case of going on stage and everyone nudging one and other and pointing
Sounds good - do I have to go round the "magic roundabout"?? BB
nope - just close your eyes and go straight through
Try the 22 through your bass amp, the 13 through your guitar amp! I like them together, but, I'm not running them through seperate amp chains, i'm running them through a bi-amp rig.
ah, that makes more sense - and a very big sound

Okies, first off I've never been to one and dunno what's involved - so help and advice will be required! I can sort out a good sized venue, a beer promotion (£1.50 a pint), some involvement from local music shop(s), local bands (although might be nice to have one or two members bands), PA system and backline. A good sized part of the room can be dedicated to having gear set up for peeps to do whatever they do at these kinda things. I can do it on a Thurs night or all day on a Sunday (which would be preferred?) - other days/times may be possible No reason why it can't be a free event (this of course also means that bands will be playing for free) So, anyone interested? - if there's enough interest then I'll make it happen
Dunno, cheddatom just recomended the DJ22. May be worth a try. Half the fun is having different fx on each amp.
I thought that the 22's strength was the ability to bring it back down an octave I'm planning on building a simple on/off footswitch that'll feed the 13's and fx - and keep the bass clean when in use - ahhh, the possibilites are endless
-
Cool. Glad to hear I'm spreading the joy! You should try it with two DJ13's.
I feel I must! okies - have a danelectro lunchbox thing on order that holds 5 mini pedals - assuming that two slots will be taken by two DJ13's any recommendations for the other 3 slots (was thinking chorus, flanger and eq) please bear in mind that I have no heart and will not be satified unless I see our guitarist's soul destroyed

Ohhh - I'll do the photography <--- is well experienced in talking photos of peeps of the same sex hugging and showing some passion - being the club photographer for Swindon Town FC

Being duly inspired by joegarcia's rig (from an earlier thread) I got myself a Danelectro French Toast pedal and an old FAL Merlin guitar combo (less than £50 for both off ebay), taking the line out of my bass head into the pedal. With the pedal deactivated the Merlin has little effect on the overall sound but as soon as it's activated - oh wow! Will be trying it out at rehearsals for the first time tonight I also use an Ibanez PD7 (which I really like) in a heavy bluesy overdrive kinda way and a Marshall Jackhammer (never together) with hardly any gain on it just to add a subtle bit of grit where needed. Nothing compares to the joegarcia solution though - and whilst my 'mini-me' version makes me reach for tissues - I'd love to hear the real thing in all it's glory!
