1.
Seeing that bass players are the cool guys standing at the back, I think sunglasses don't look too nobby. Tried them (I use prescription sunglasses too) but they can slide down yer face when you start sweating. I did most of my gigging with unlined ebony fretless boards... the Warwicks I played had tiny side dots that disappeared in the lights... I did most of my practising at home in the dark... it worked. You could put large stick on dots on the side... but that really would look nobby. LEDs too espensive. For me, loads of lights, scanners, strobes, smoke and... erm... pyrothechnics are all part of the fun. PS... I get the migraine point... That really wouldn't be fun.
I use large stick on dots, I don't care if they're nobby , had a sweaty gig the other week and most of them came off, there was a few semitone fluffs I can tell ya
2. Yup all lunatics, one of my old drummers from years ago wore leather trousers for gigs so he could take a piss mid gig and it would run out the bottom like a downpipe ... Yuk.
3.
Not really Jazzy or Funky though.
i dunno, he had his moments
4. I can't get to the mobile site from my iPod touch I just get this at the bottom of the page, anyone know why I can't?.
5. I don't think you're talking tosh Mike, I seem to have got my aches pains, funny feelings etc soon after I piled on about 3 stone, I never changed eating habits, tho I do drink to much, I think we put weight on as our metabolism slows down?
6.
Feel for you Steve. Have had a similar ongoing complaint. Like above, i'd advise expert help although its pretty difficult and expensive once found. Painkillers and/or marijuana seem to be the most effective treatments for my personal circumstances.
+1 on the marijuana, done wonders for my neck, shoulder pain and numbness, my osteopath put mine down to wear and tear, I have 1 shoulder 2 inches lower than t' other apparently? He said it must be because of the weight of my basses ?? How come Macca's shoulder isn't 4" lower than the other? He's been playin 25 yrs longer than me. I have tried marijuana for pain relief but I'm not a stoner, maaaann!!
7.
You can pick any number of songs but this is a great example from the 80s - the last 30 seconds is ludicrous on bass https://youtu.be/YqmjbiA_wnc This one shows his immaculate groove https://youtu.be/ClMU4oxag60 Also check out his work with d'angelo and John Mayer - the guy has groove and consummate taste in note choice. Fabulous.
Great stuff... That looks like Johnny Turnbull on guitar from the Blockheads?
8. Try a squirt or two of switch cleaner
9. I see Otway & Barrett donkeys yrs ago, wild Willy had his amp in a wheelie bin and opened the lid every time he played a solo
10. I've just informed my drummer.. Waiting a reply..
11.
Certainly did
👍
12.
The bass is probably a Bass Centre Bass Collection bass that he commissioned - I could be wrong, but I thought he either sold or retired his original Gold Fender Jazz?
the gold one was for sale thru Andy Baxter I think, the one with the fag burn on the headstock where he poked the ciggie under the strings
13. Glad it went well, my first gig was a nightmare, the support bands bass player never showed up, they asked me if I'd do it and I said yes, 40 mins of hell... Never knew any of the songs, no chords written down I was just watching the rhythm guitarists hands... Oooh shudder, never again.
14. What are they called?
15.
Get some big screens and the band could play remotely so they wouldn't even have to travel to the gig.
sounds good to me
16.
Why would you even post that?
Bah!!! humbug!!!
17. I've used a pick for 32 yrs and it's never twisted or fell out of my hand, I've had to twist a few mid song when they snap (quite often) when I'm having a proper dig in, it just feels natural holding one, I only use the smooth ones rather than textured
18. I may see you there Lozz
19. Love it, I'm gonna take up keys just so I can audition with them.
20.
Christ, it's not him, is it?? I've been asked if I'd like to replace myself before now.
good god no it's me.... Oh hang on a minute I don't play fiddle... Fiddley Jim is his name, used to be my keyboard player but plays a mean violin
21. I know a fiddle player in Cornwall if you're stuck
22. My '78 jazz is .. Wow 38.
23.
Yes, my character is a shabby middle-aged man with high blood pressure. He is a snurgler.
snurgler?? Isn't that a chap that enjoys sniffing the odd bicycle seat?
