Trying to look a little more cheerful on stage :-/
rogerstodge replied to Deedee's topic in General Discussion
This is why you practice isn't it? ;-) TBH the vast majority of the time no-one in the audience will notice. I've played half a song a semi-tone flat on more than one occasion because the on-stage sound was terrible and it was too dark for me to see the side dots on my bass with my mirror shades on… Not a single person has ever come up to me (or any of the other members of the band) to complain about poor playing, but we get plenty of compliments about how impressive the performance was!
Hi all Had another storming gig last night. Place was full, everybody rocking, good night all round. However, had someone come up to me again and ask 'why don't you smile on stage, you look like you don't want to be there?'. Now I have had this said many times before, usually it's 'why do you look like you're about to jump off stage and hit somebody?'. People who know me know that I'm a pretty fun loving guy who enjoys a good laugh, but it really is starting to concern me that punters who haven't seen us before just think 'it's that band with the miserable bass player'. I do try to show that I'm enjoying myself, it's just that I'm blessed with one of those faces which has a default look of disinterest! Mean and moody, I'm doing very well. Any tips?
dont worry matey I'm exactly the same -
I answered an ad for a ramones tribute band a few years back, he sounded very enthusiastic, took my email address to send me a set list and my home address to fwd me a cd, 3 years later and no more contact from him I'm still waiting..

Huw Lloyd Langton at the Red lion at Gravesend, only a small venue.... Jesus Christ, I also saw Iron Maiden at the same venue under the name of Sherpa Tanks, probably a warm up gig for a tour or summin, they were a tad quiter than Langton. Also The Stranglers at the Lyceum Ballroom early 80s, the bass rattled my rib cage
Don't get me wrong I like playing bass well most of the time but get no pleasure in gigging anymore pub gigs I know people are there too be entertained but I don't really like people and I am getting more anxious around them and I'm fed up of my guitarist saying down his mic give everyone a big smile and I feel bullied into pretending to enjoy myself when I'm not . I am gigging tomorrow night am looking forward to it err not really and don't really like playing the same old generic cover songs quit a big local festival coming in Easter but don't think I'll bother and tell them tomorrow night I'm putting my cabs away and calling it a day and taking up knitting or something , grumble over and thanks everyone for your time .met some great people from this forum and I've had some good laughs and done deals in some funny places lol and keep your eyes open in the for sale forum as I'll just keep a combo for noodling in the house 🎸
are you my twin brother mate, I could've wrote this.

Fender Jazz Bass Special - Pick Ups... Advice!
rogerstodge replied to lastanthem88's topic in Repairs and Technical
Haha I make a much better brew than I play bass lines believe me!! So it seems you're hunch was right, the sound is totally different through the white jazz special, though the picks ups do look different - the poles are smaller. I can get a classic P sound, a J sound, and a blend - probably like the black one should sound. That TBX is either bypassed or broken, or there's a problem with the wiring somewhere. There's a guy near me called Nigel Stockbridge who's an absolutely incredible luthier so I'll book it in I think and get him to take a look, and see what he can find. Me opening it up is a recipe for disaster! Thanks for your help and advice, it's much appreciated.
you think Lozz was joking about getting on the train don't you? -
I'm in Sutton Coldfield, I did the level 6 rock school licentiate thing as part of the final year of my BMus. Feel free to PM me, I can do Skype if you wish. I don't charge for a 20 minute lesson for basschat members. I've done a bit of teaching on here using Skype.
ooh that's worth knowing Ambient👍 -
That may be because of the screen resolution which the site uses to determine whether to offer up the mobile version - it's quite high for a phone-sized screen, more like a 7" tablet.
ah thanks Tauzero, so there's not much I can do about that is there?
