1.
Don't think you've knackered the string, but I think you could be knackering the tone/sustain of the string - albeit marginally. EDIT: If it's new, I would think a call to the supplier might be in order.
when I say new, I mean new to me.
2. I've got a schaller 3D bridge I was thinking of replacing the Gibson bridge with. It's a new bass though so I was going to live with it for a month or so before doing too many "mods" on it. I've also got a Dimarzio Model One I was thinking of replacing the neck pickup with. So, do you think I've knackered the string?
3. I'm posting this here as I think it may get a quicker response. The binding of my strings sits on the saddles of my bridge. Someone suggested that I could burn the binding away using a lighter. I did this (quite easy) but am not sure about how the string looks under neath. Could someone take a quick look at the attached pic please and tell me what they think. Cheers, Paul
4.
I just played back a recording to my youngest daughter..... Hey dad, who is that, it sounds really good. Why that's me playing. It sounded almost professional...... until I realised it was you
My daughter is my harshest critic.
5. Hi Stu, I tried what you suggested, burning the binding away. The string looks a bit odd underneath. Would you mind taking a look at the attached pic and telling me what you think? Cheers, Paul
6. I've just realised this phenomena and was wondering if it made a huge difference to tone. Would it be feasible to remove the bindings?
7. I picked up a behringer one with an expression pedal, I find it very useable.
8. thanks guys. I've actually goat B3 that's sitting around doing nothing. I must explore. sorry for the slight hijack of the thread.
9.
A few EHX ones do, try POG, HOG and even the Microsynth. Also a couple of Boss pedals will do it.
cheers mate
10. This may be stupid question, is there an octave pedal that takes the original not up an octave? Everyone I've looked at only seems to take it down an octave.

sub machine

sub machine (one of my projects) will be playing live at the Grosvenor in Stockwell on Dec 20th. More details to follow. http://soundcloud.com/submachine/tracks
12. pre-amp/compressor, line select, flanger/chorus, overdrive, bass synth (with expression pedal), delay
13.
Of course you do
my case is building all the time.
14. On a connected point, can anyone recommend a good barrier cream for musicians?
15.
(it's nut to bridge but as halving the distance gives you an octave , this is the easier way of working it out )
That's what I always used to do but was recommended the method I posted. I know that in theory it gives the same result but I think it's something to do with intonation. I'm sure someone will be along to correct me at some point.
16.
Ho ho, good one! So how do you Measure scale length? I want to check what mine are now!
measure from the nut to the 12th fret then times by 2
17. It's not the length but what you do with it that counts. ;-)
18.
I got a milder version of that last year. The infection spreads from the finger to the rest of the hand via the nerve system, it gets swollen and hurts badly. Antibiotics will do the trick. And yes you definitely deserve a new bass
Cheers mate. I'll let the missus know you said it was ok.
19. A great doc. Didn't realise their musical pedigree.
20. Crikey, can't believe it's been a month since I first posted about this. Well, managed to get through the gig by strapping my finger up. Gig finished, next day index finger and thumb on fretting hand covered in blisters and swollen to a point that I couldn't bend them, massive blister on heel of picking hand. This spread to other parts of my body, quite unpleasant. Am now on my third different medication (antibiotics), turns out it was some kind of bacterial infection. Antibiotics seem to be working so am hoping to get back to playing the bass soon, I was even considering packing it in and taking up keyboards if things didn't improve. So my next question is, do I deserve a new bass for being a brave little soldier?
21. I started on a short scale (30") then switched to long scale, now after 20 odd years have switched back to short scale. I find it more comfortable to play though there is a difference in tone and sustain. In fact I'd say it has made me more disciplined regarding timing, don't ask me to explain as I'm sure I would struggle.
22.
Sorry Paul, thank you for your post however no I wouldnt be interested in any trades as the funds from this are going straight towards a new bass. J
Fair do's mate.
