1. i have been looking into routers as mine broke. But i find with the cheaper ones the bit gets pulled out while in use, so im looking for something with a bit more oomph.
2. Ask someone here who lives near there to check it out.
3.
You are right. The Squier is a different unit internally compared to the Custom Shop version, which is an accurate reproduction of the original. The only real similarities is that they are both humbucking and the same overall size and mounting.
Where about is this information? Ive also been looking into these but havent found much.
4. have you tried raising the DG side of the pickup? Also, a new set of strings does wonders. Mark hoppus uses ernie ball hybrid slinkys, and a quarter pounder pickup. I like his tone. For added zing, try taking the tone pot out of the equation.
5. higher ground?
6. indeed it is.
7. you could remove a load of material, enough to move it back, and just get a new scratchplate made.
8. For added cosmetic help, you could cur the front bit off the bridge, or even get one of these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CHROME-BASS-GUITAR-BRIDGE-FOR-MUSIC-MAN-Style-5-String-Guitar-/160983855039?pt=Guitar_Accessories&hash=item257b62afbf
9. these are all very helpful. Cheers chaps.
10. about £100 on top of the price.
11. So, say i want to make a plate from scratch for my own bass im making, is there any sort of method to it, or is it just a lot of measuring to it, like 5cm from here, 3 from here etc? Anyone ever made one from scratch and has any tips? It would be appreciated.
12. If anyone was doing a clone of that preamp, then they would definitely use the same value pots for it, as anything else wouldnt make it a clone. One was you can check the values is by taking them off and getting a multimeter on them. Get the resistance straight away. But according the the widely available stringray preamp diagram the values are as follow: Vol: 25k log Bass: 100k Log treble: 1meg reverse log. May i ask where the clone preamp came from?
13. any interest in a top ofthe range gherson rick copy?

17.
Now that's a cool offer but unfortunately not for me! Where did you get the markers done out of interest?
They were on when i got the bass, but i believe its these https://fretfx.com/ > Its basically an adhesive strip that runs along the side of the neck, with a battery compartment thats hidden behind the headstock. Uses a 10p sized button battery.
