1. so why are these awesome? Whats the modshop done to ordinary pickups?
2. excellently. Comes alive with a pick.
3. So i routed out some room for the pickups: Put them in and soldered it all together: And now this is in my life:
4. I was thinking that dude to this video. But id prefer some other ideas as id prefer to go for a more original rick if i were to make one. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h6hQDYKzygo
5. Ive got these two pickups which i think will work well together. Ones from a hohner headless, and the other NOS marauder pickup. So i want to make a bass for them, but i dont know what kinda shape to do. Anyone got any ideas? Here are the pickups in question.
6. ah. Well, if thats too high, you can always try an offer
7. Just got the plate made and kitted out by bassdoc. Its awesome despite my crazy instructions. I had it made to the epi plate dimensions, so it can be converted back. All thats left now is to remove material to allow the pickups to have room. That should be done tomorrow. So almost there!!! pics:
8. i think dolphin in liverpool closed last time i looked. store was empty and dirty.
9. So, im very tempted by one of these. Heard some nice sounds, but im wondering if anyone knows of where i can try one out in the flesh in the northwest are. Around liverpoolish. as i would prefer to try one out and see if it passes the marmite. Stocked in a shop? A basschatters house maybe? I would be appreciative, and could be some jaffas in it.
10.
I had a look and it's a Grabber copy, not the real deal. Not much common parts between the Ripper and the Grabber either. Cheers for the headsup though In any case I can't afford to do anything more this month - car goes for MOT tomorrow, and I know it wants front brake pads (and possibly discs) at the very least The only "weird" thing I need to find is the 4 position dial plate for the varitone rotary switch. It looks like this: It's far from essential, so I'm not losing any sleep over it, but it would be nice!
Wow, those little bastards are hard to find. Even the ones with 5 pos. I would get one of the 5'ers and permanent marker out the 5.
11. hmm. it sounds like something could be loose. Go around the bass and see if all the screws are tight (knobs, screws holding the tuners on, tuner ferrules, maybe even the pickup screws) Any chance you could make a recording of the sound?
12.
That must sound monstrous on some settings! a very punk looking bass, I like it
My mate recorded me playing on it. I believe i have the neck and P in parallel with the bridge coil of the MM. Sounds beasty http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zrUt93f4O8Y
13. i like them also. Some nice sounds. Like when you play slap on them, the percussive sound from the strings hitting the pickup is cool
14. I added 3 5-way super rotary switches onto my bass with an MM, P, and J. Its awesome the amount of combinations there is. And you constantly find new sounds. Such as i have the MM out of phase, in parallel with the neck J. The bass from the J, and the treble from the MM makes a cool sound. But unless you're going to be in a bass fronted band where your tone is key, its more of a bedroom fun-to-play type thing to do. Heres my bass that i did it with. http://trichards.co.uk/images/gallery/Current%20Basses/Superp-bass.JPG
15. i got a rustling noise on my bass ocassionally, Turns out it was a dodgy pot. Maybe thats it. Im going based on the rustling noise you describe. On the offchance its more of a vibraty sound, it could be a loose saddle screw. Add some superglue to it and it should stop vibrating.
16. maybe a normal none vox pedal will let me do basic things. Ill have a look/ talk with my guitarist and see what hes using. (hes got the exact amp as me, but uses a peavey pedal for it.)
17. If it were me, id go for the alnico mainly because that pretty much been the precision pickup for its life (alnico slugs). I suppose with the hotter 11k, you'd get a bit of a darker sound due to the higher resistance. Maybe better for driving distortion.
18. Mine is the vt50. I was unaware of the circuitry in the pedal. But that would mean its powered, wouldnt it? And as for mono, im not actually sure now.
19. I have one of these g****r amps, and since the foot switches for it are quite expensive, will any foot switch work with it? I think it should as it uses a mono jack to plug in the amp. Just wanted to check.
20. i drop a bit of superglue on them as i had one that kept vibrating free. Drop of superglue, even pound shop stuff, should work
