1. also, im probably gonna buy this from you in about a week.
2. @ japaxe This would be the bass i have This would be the new bridge thing And the tailpiece @foxen I kinda realise that with the bridge height issue thing, but i may try going for just saddles in tracks on the current bridge. But i dont mind as i paid £30 for the bass. So its more of an entertainment thing.
3. Trade for an epi EB3L : http://trichards.co.uk/images/gallery/Current%20Basses/epieb3.PNG
4. So i have this acoustic bass, one of the £70 jobbies off fleabay, and its intonation and pickup system is wack. so im thinking of changing it into a semi acoustic (ie magnet bobbin pickups, adjustable bridge etc) And im wondering about any tips or advice. Mainly to do with the bridge. Im planning on using the normal ones you see on most semi acoustics, and im worried about the force of the bridge caving in the top of the bass due to the 2 anchor points for it. The ball end will be held by a tailpiece. So what im thinking of doing is cutting a large slot in the back of it and gluing in a block down the centre. Im not too fussed comestically as i can clean it up, but is this necessary? Will the top hold the force of the bridge? Anyone done anything similar? Any problems that i may encounter?
5. sweet birdge cover. Ive been looking at them too, but didnt know what they looked like in person.... Til now....
6. Yeah. It sounds pretty decent. Ive got it with an actual stingray pickup that i got from here. And im pretty sure its nailed the sound. Its also got the treble like you can hear Tim play on RATM's "bullet in the head"
7. Okay, so if i have a 500w into 4ohm head, what sort of ohmage/wattage cab am i after?
8. whats the TC like compared to the markbass volume wise? If this is a stupid question, ignore it.
9. got one from obbm. Works pretty well. seems massively solid. cheers for the help chaps.
10. Hi guys. Im in a band now, so im after something that will work with mid sized venues. Ive spent about two hours looking around the amps and cabs section and now im frazzled with the massive variety. Ive been looking at the little giant heads by ashdown, but they seem to be short lived. Looked at hartke, but they seem to sell as soon as they go up. What head out there gives a nice clean solid sound? Or is that like asking what kind of pickups are best for....... Everyone here is so very helpful. I am awful appreciative.
11. Thanks chaps. Ive sent an email to OBBM.
12. Im looking for a reliable one now as im gigging, and im wondering what is deemed dam decent?
13. ive got this one, with technically 4 pickups (two coils in the MM) and wired passively. Im sure there is a way yours could be done. Id probably go for the above mentioned 3vol/ 1 tone if you're not into anything fancy. If you ARE, however, you could have some crazy stuff.
14. Hello folks. Im playing at cromwells pub in warrington on the 27th of may. Its my debut gig with them, and it would be lovely if you could come down (or up) to check us out. Heres a link to the facebook event: https://www.facebook.com/events/169969199826173/?ref=22 (i think its £3 entry but there's other bands playing too) And heres a link to our website: http://www.selfishloversband.co.uk/ We play sort of indie stuff with some rock and funk thrown in. I would love to see some of you chaps there.
15. yeah, ive come across something similar on the awesome flyguitars website, but this one is quite black and white. @dan0, im thinking about having a second plate made so it can be reversible
16.
In the first photo it looks like the wire from the voice coil, the thin wire under the yellow tape, is broken but that may just be the photo. The way to check it is to put a meter across the two solder pads either side of the brass standoff. If you get continuity then all is well.
Ive checked the continuity on the coil, there is none.
If the wire is broken, then using a magnifying glass and a sharp knife / blade, scrape the wire until the varnish is removed and solder it back together. You may need to bridge the gap with a very thin piece of wire.
Is this wire the one inside the coil, or the thin one that goes from the coil to the base where the white, green wires are?
A wire from each solder pad passes through the holes shown in the second photo and are soldered to the yellow and white wires in the last photo.
These were not soldered when i took it apart. It looked like they just slotted into the hole and that was it. You're saying that they should be soldered? Also, thanks for responding.
17. So i picked this up from a chap on here as the basis for a cool project. i bought some NOS g-3 pickups from ebay for a dam good price with the idea of making a G3 from scratch. But i saw this bass and decided, lets do it this way as its got pretty much all the stuff i need including the cool dots on the maple board. It sounds awesome as is, but i bought/traded for it for a reason. So im awaiting a G3 plate from BassDoc so i can route out the necessary space. So i will try and update with changes. And hopefully it shouldnt take too long. ( i may have a go at stripping it back to natural to look more like dirnts) Heres what it originally looked like:
