1. i really dont believe its a bitsa. Probably something from the 60's-70's, maybe matsumoku
2.
I'm officially a dick Ordered 1 Diode instead of 2 and 3 2.2m resistors instead of 4. Silly question time. On yours I see some of the caps are blue. the ones I got are the normal brown ones. does it matter?
Yes, i wanted more a more bluesy sound from this preamp, so i got blue ones. Brown ones will make it muddier..... But in all seriousness, i only got blue as bitsbox only had that value in tantalum bead style, otherwise i probably would have gone brown myself. I can also send you a diode and another 2.2m if ya lyk. I bought everything in multiples of 5, except the opamp and pots.
3. how many frets has the johnson? if 21+, pm me please?
4. They have an expensive delivery charge though. I think that was where i was going to get a 1m reverse audio pot. But then i realised i didnt really care how the sensitivity was near the top end of the pot, so linear taper it was.
5.
Being a hoarder I make my own from the legs off old components which I can't bare to throw away once I've snipped the excess off. They come in handy for all sorts of solder jobs.
Thats what i was using as i was going along. unfortunately one jumper was too long, so i used a bit of tinned copper wire.
Thats the Electrolytic ones ain't it. I was double checking your pictures as I was ordering and googling images to make sure everything looked okay. Took most of yesterday
They are indeed. As i think i mentioned, i got all the components for the preamp from bitsbox except the pots. Where about did you order from?
6. Probably pretty cool. also. did you remember that some were polarized?
7. I suppose there is a use but you can't really cut it to a smaller size.
8.
What are you doing for pickups when you build your Sabre out of interest? Are you just going to use Stingray size ones?
I was looking for some sabre sized ones, but the nearest i could find size wise was this one http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/130481904642?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649#ht_500wt_969 But i got some good deals on here for some bartolini pickups. So theyll do.
Silly questiontime. C7 is the one that should be 10uf instead of 1uf isn't it?
That is the one that i changed, yes.
Mind if I stick my oar in and suggest using this stuff instead of Veroboard ? http://www.ebay.co.u...984.m1423.l2649 You can get it at other places, the link is just a convenient example. Even perf board - the Vero type stuff without the copper - is better than Veroboard. I hate the stuff.
I dont mind the veroboard stuff, but that is some strange looking stuff in the ebay listing....
9. well, emg do use spade type connectors when connecting to pickups and pots, but i think that soldering is the easiest way to go about it without the need for more stuff than a soldering iron and solder which gives a good connection.
10. Yeah, thats what that one was. the 4.7nf was because it gives better treble boost, and it allows me to get pretty much all my parts from the same place. I also chose to do the sabre preamp as im making my version of it as i cannot afford a real one. If you dont want a bright switch, then stingray is the way to go.
11. Well, tbh its pretty badass. I Like the boost only bass, and the bright switch adds that little extra zing when you want to hear the zinginess. I reckon ill probably make a few more and stick them on ebay for a reasonable price. i did also change two things from the diagram too. A 10uf output cap instead of 1uf, and a 4.7nf cap for the bright switch instead of 1.8nf.
12. Bought it a few years ago. Basically unused. The offer is a loose £120. Taking up room so it could do with being gone. As the headline says, its one of the black/green fur covered 2x10 trace elliot cabs rated at 8ohms @200w. Pickup is preferred from the wirral area, but i could post if buyer pays shipping. If you want anymore details, or pictures, just drop me a line. Cheers for taking the time out of your busy online profile to check this little ad out. UPDATE: a picture is now available
13. Need this thing tomake like houdini bump
14. well i bought enough parts for 5 boards (excluding pots and op-amps) so i might as well stick them together
15. the hole drilling sounds like it makes sense, and i may do that for the second board as i dont think there is enough room on this one for that to work. As for parts, the second picture i orginally posted has all the parts required, and all but the pots and 1.8nf capacitor can be had from bitsbox.co.uk if that helps.
16. sure, the search term was "16/0.2mm", also known as "hookup" wires. Very cheap. Better than what i was looking at under "guitar wire"
17. im planning on making my own sabre bass as i cannot afford a real one, so im using this preamp. The wire ive used to go to the controls is rubbish though as they keep snapping off the board, so ive ordered some copper wire for it. Once ive installed it on the bass im planning on using, ill probably upload sound clips, but until then, im using it as a pedal. sounds best on my jazz. If you're hesitant about starting, i could always put a board together for you......
18. nevermind. I used better search terms on ebay and found some £2.95 for 10m and infinite colours.
19. Im looking for some 22swg / 22awg / type wire for wiring up my guitars. Ideally a fair amount of the stuff, and it has to be copper as the Al wire keeps snapping with movement. Ebay is a bit of a rip, and ideally im looking for several colours, minimum 3 different colours. Anyone got a cheeky little bookmark that could help me out, or a place IRL to go and get some from?
20. Yeah. Thanks to my mates dad pointing me in the right direction, it now works!!! The bright switch is awesome too! If i would have followed the instructions, then i would have had no problems whatsoever! now to make another one.
21. sure. not too sure what after shots to take, but here is what ive got now. I currently have it in a pedal type enclosure only because i havent made the bass its going in yet, so this is a nice way of actually using it. I also added an extra strip on the board to connect all the grounds to as its easier than connecting the pots together. here is my enclosure: the insides: above view of component layouts: and lastly, my soldering (the top left was my mates dad having a quick go at correcting my errors):
