Hello. At the moment, i am making an explorer type bass, and i was originally planning to paint it a colour, but after seeing it taking shape, im deciding to clearcoat it. Question is, the woods used are yellow pine and sapele, and i was wondering what can i use to bring out the grain. And heres a picture of it unfinished to help you answer.

Im in the middle of a bass build, but i ideally need a benchtop planer to get it to the correct width. And i was wondering if anyone knew of somewhere in the wirral that had one i could use for it.

Ebay is normally pretty good, but slightly cheaper decent parts, Wilkinson do some pretty good stuff.

I have a P neck but, its not strictly from a fender line.... It was a marlin. Its also got the truss rod adjust at the bottom end. And thats not really a "professional" bound jobby..... its permanent marker.... But i dont mind trade or monies if you're interested, which you probably arent, but hey there you go.

Cool. Im just waiting for them to arrive from hong kong now, so when they do, ill let you know.

mm hmm. That one is also some weird 70% centre thing. Im just gonna buy 6 off ebay and see if anyone wants the spares.
If you're after a dirt cheap platform for modding, the Vintage EJM96 Jazz copy can be had for less than £100. I had one not so long ago with the intention of modding it and found that it sounded and played pretty decently as-is. With better wiring and a decent set of pickups, it would have sounded even nicer.
I agree, i just picked up a vintage jazz, and its all there. The jazz neck, the pickups, even brass bridge saddles. I dont like the neck pup hole though, its a swimming pool, meaning no sans pickguard playing. But it feels like it could be enhanced. And i got mine for £100.

Looks awesome. What with the tiny holes that arent for PG's?
-
Yeah, i was looking at that, and although i could possibly get around using a 500k pot, as well as the fact its meant for PCB mounting, i just wanted to check out there for what im looking for, thanks anyway.

I recently got a jazz bass, however, the 2vol 1tone thing i find a bit annoying, so i want to switch it to a blend/volume arrangement. I have all the knowledge to do this, however, although i can buy a 250k blend pot, with centre detent, off ebay, they seem a tad expensive for what they are, and i was wondering if anyone on here has one lying around after a bulk buy that i could purchase. Failing that, does anyone know of a UK store that does them for under £4 ish?

Maybe a used G&L tribute L2500? I feel myself going for something with dual humbuckers....
the easiest way is to get hold of a scratch plate and use the pickup hole in that + router to create your template. you'll have to drill out the corners first to achieve the correct corner radius, a 6-7mm drill bit should work.
This isnt a bad idea. It would seem as if once these are done, it would be a lot easier to route the rest out. I may implement this in a future rout.
-
Well, ive routed a few holes with a router, but because on my inexperience, the first was rubbish, second, only slightly better, third, bit more better. Id go for the chisel route if you have time, and can be patient, otherwise, have an immovable template for the jazz hole, and stick to it.

Heres a pic Quite unusual that i have it, as i dont normally buy it every month, just copies that look decent.

Alrighty, so im kinda bumping this from about two years ago, but its up for sale again, so hopefully the mods wont mind (ill donate when it sells) with all the new sale rules. So im in a band which has started gigging, and ive used this successfully, as it was also DI'd (balanced xlr output) and not topped out. But i wanted something bigger as ive got a festival gig next week, and id prefer something bigger, which i now have (ashdown spyder ) So im selling this to recover the funds. Now, the amp itself. Its 60cm tall, 65cm wide, and 35cm deep. Its also 32.5kg. Its around 1997ish made, with the fuzzy green/black carpet covering. Got the 7 band EQ, treble/bass sound balance, 2 presets, effects loop, balanced xlr output, mute switch, active/passive input, the usual, except it does not have an output for an external cab. the preset sounds are awesome, one good for a scooped tone, and the other good for old schoolish sound. The front doesnt glow green though like newer ones. The original driver went as well, so ive put a bugera in there and sounds decent. Tryouts can be had if you come see me on the wirral. Trade wise, im more after money, but i could be persuaded by an 8ohm 4x10 , or a nice bass. All offers considered. Seriously, try anything. I may consider it as this is an awesome place. So, pictures. I can get more too if you fancy. wide Controls Alrighty.

Wrong sub-category. Try posting here, you may get more hits http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showforum=16 Or here for introductions http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showforum=3 But to have a go at answering you question, id probably go for something with a double humbucker arrangement.
