1. I've been liking the 4003's neck action more, as I get accustom to it. It feels to me, a more consistent playing shape.
2. I just picked up another NY121 cab to keep as a back up cab.
3. The Mini CMD 121P, with or without the NY121 external cab. The Combo Head ll in the Mini CMD 121P, is the same as the Little Mark lll head, except the head's casing has no top cover, because it's internally mounted.
4. This Ric sounds good through the Markbass.
5. I used to go Maple, but lately my choices of basses have brought me to Rosewood. A 4003, Fretless Jazz, SG Std. i don't have a any problems with subdued tones with Rosewood either.
6. Everyone else has covered items, two, three, and four so I'll just mention one thought on the smaller cab. I believe the compact size cab casing improves the air being pushed out of the cab, more efficiently than a larger cab where the air and sounds move around in the cab before pushing out of the cab. 12" Speakers aren't new by any means. They seem to be waking players up to a bit more surface area of the speaker itself.
7. The Markbass Mini CMD 121P/NY121 do some serious kicking.
8.
Egads! How much gear do you go through?! Rig looks lovely by the way; would love to nab one of those 112 combos. Truckstop
Thanks, it's real solid, compact, and playable. Now, I just have Three Basses, the Markbass Mini CMD 121P Combo, and two NY121 cabs. When you were a Roadie for quite awhile, you just sometimes know who to call for gear related stuff. Life is simpler now, without having to get trailer loads of gear to the airports on time after shows.
9.
Glad to see it, welcome home.
Thanks. I thought it was the right move to be welcome home as you put it. There are some great combo combinations available, I just like the Markbass.
10.
You know it makes sense GSG
Hey Lozz! You're so right on Sir. It was getting crazy. The Ampeg cab had a great sound with the Markbass LM Tube 800, but moving it around was a logistical nightmare. I sure do appreciate the 2X12's, and 500 watts. It really is so simple to disconnect the connection cord to the NY121 cab, and pick up the Mini CMD 121P.
11. I just went back to the Markbass Mini CMD 121P/NY121.
12. The Ampeg/Markbass rig worked well. Just the Ampeg SVT-410HLF cab was to heavy and bulky for what I needed.
13. I went back to the Markbass Mini CMD 121P/NY121.
14. Congrats on the Beautiful Gibson. The body finish looks fantastic. I'd love to see Gibson make a fretless EB.
15. This Midnight Blue was purchased sight unseen through, Sam Ash.com. It worked out ok. The Caribbean Rosewood, (Chechen), has been looking pretty good in place of the former, African Rosewood, (Bubinga).
16. I've run out of GAS, but I'm not complaing. Three basses is fine. An Ampeg SVT-CL could be someday at the GAS station however.
17. Iron Butterfly - the "Heavy" album.
18. Go fretless, and you don't worry about lighting.
19. i thought about the third generation Rumbles. But I'd rather stay with Markbass, or GK. For heads, or combos.
20.
Ah, thanks guys, I only asked about de tuning as just about every bass I've ever tried at a shop has been unpacked and hung up on a wall at least half a tone down, and I assumed it was like that from the manufacturers who couldn't possibly know how long it would be before that bass was sold/setup properly/tuned to pitch etc. also do you think it will be ok as long as the body is supported and the neck is not touching anything? Thanks in advance Cheers Pete
The difference in tuning on a new bass in a shop, is usually the new strings stretching.
21.
I must be in the minority here - I feel wrong on any bass that isn't a Ric - it's those that have all fallen by the way side.
My 4003 spoils me for playing my fretless Jazz. My Gibson SG Std. feels a bit similar, with the board on the Gibson being a 12" radius.
22.
No, unfortunately my brother has the SG Std.
I got the SG Std. Walnut back from my brother, before he sold it for a song.
23. I like the 4003 neck being less tapered. The one thing about Rickenbacker, they only turn out so many basses, and that's it. By doing that, the quality is hopefully a bit better, per unit.
24. Thanks Gents, again for the great kind words. I had a Mapleglo, and a Ruby. Personally the Midnight Blue is my Achilles Heel for 4003 finishes. The Walnut 4003 does look amazing.
