I've had a few basses in 44 years of playing, but none of them grabs me like this American Deluxe Jazz does. The sound is incredible. The body looks to be a single board of Alder. The Rosewood fretboard is a good selection. I had no issues with changing the Fender USA Super Bass 7250M, NPS (.045-.105 Gauges), to the D'Addario ETB92 Nylon Tapewound strings I use. The N3 Noiseless Single-Coil Jazz Bass pups are fine, no humming problems either. A well finished bass.

D'Addario customer service is one of the best. I bought a set of bass Nylon strings, and they didn't fit the scale length. I e-mailed them, and figured I'd be lucky to get a response in two days, or not at all. 15 to 20 minutes passed, and I got a reply back. They asked what the problem was with the strings, etc. They asked me to measure from the ball to the nut. I did. After my reply back, D'Addario replied back asking for my name, address, etc. I didn't mention anything to them about a replacement set of strings to them, just reporting the problem. They sent me a new set of factory fresh Nylon strings no charge. I used D'Addario flats in the past, and I use no other brand of bass strings now. No strings attached.

The dude should have taken the two screws he needed, and went on his way. The screws he mentioned, just don't fall out either.

If I were to down size, I've got the head now. TC Electronic RH450 head. The scaled down cab would be a TC E. cab.
-
My class D, TC Electronic RH450 posts on the back of the head, ok to run without speakers. Not all heads will work without a connection. When in doubt, contact the manufacturer.
nice looking fretboard on the mapleglo
Thank you. About a year ago, Rickenbacker stopped using the African Rosewood, because of the unstable governments around. The Gibson raid woke some guitar makers up. It's Caribbean Rosewood. I just returned a Fender Pawn Shop Mustang. I thought the 30" scale is a PITA. (Pain In The Azz) I've had both the Mustang, and the Gibson SG Std. If I was going to do a short scale bass again, the Gibson would be my choice. I use D'Addario ETB92S Nylon Tapewound strings for short scale basses. The 30" scale on the Fender doesn't work right with the silk winding ends of the strings. The Gibson 30.5" works with no problem. Hardshell Fender cases are a nightmare to get. The gig bag it comes on is to long for it. The Gibson is the way to go.

I hope you find it, and get it back. I'm lucky enough to be getting my Rickenbacker 4003, "Windy" back again on Monday, May 6th. I'm not givinng this one up again. After going from short to long, I prefer long scale. The variations of string types, and availability, is enough for me to stay with a long scale.

Nice Jazz. I liked the Highway One Series better than the Am. Special Series. They were a great series for a very reasonable price. The bridge ashtray looks good on yours also.

The Marshall MB410C played great until the cooling system of the head failed, and the head fried. The End.

I like the TC Electronic RH450 head, and the Ampeg SVT-410HLF. 2X12's Do work well, but I'm converted to the 410 cab. Plenty of bottom, and a HF Horn.

Switch to the TC Electronic style rig from large Ashdown all Valve rig
gsgbass replied to CPBass's topic in Amps and Cabs
I switched to a TC Electronic RH450 head, with an Ampeg SVT-410HLF. The TC RH heads are very tube sound, and reliable. -
I'd add Hartke to your list. Try to add to your budget. Another £100 will get you so much more.
Very good advice on the Hartke line.

I recently got an MIM Pawn Shop Mustang Bass, and was able to compare it to a recent MIJ Mustang Bass. My MIM was superior to the MIJ hands down. The QC is as good as an Am. Std. Jazz. MIM basses are far better than in the past.

I've used Fender Am. Std. basses for years, and a few MIM basses. I honestly couldn't tell the two apart, other than the bridges, and rolled edges of the fretboards, and fret edges a bit rounded on the Am. Std.'s. My current bass is a MIM Pawn Shop Mustang bass, that has a two piece Alder body with a decent looking grain in it. It's well finished all over, and sounds great. It's basically a 30" short scale Jazz neck, with a single Humbucking pickup on it, and strings through the body. $800. As compared to $1,350. I did buy a Fender Mustang hardshell case. $150. So actually $950. for the Mustang. I like it a lot better than the Gibson SG Std. The Mustang is more balanced than the SG Std, without the Neck Dive of Death so common on the SG Std. $900. - $1,400. For Gibson SG Std. basses, depending on the finishes. I got WOWED by this Fender "Pawn Shop Mustang". It plays great, very balanced, and a nice Alder body. Fender's QC is great on it also.

I've gone from 12's, and 15's to 410's. I really prefer the 410's with the newer heads out now. TC Electronic RH450 head, with an Ampeg SVT-410HLF cab.

I went the road with the MB Marshall Series. I'd do the MBC410 cab. A bit more versatile than the MBC115. One thing I didn't like about the MBC cabs, the speaker grill rattles on some. That's why I went back to speaker cloth on the Ampeg SVT-410HLF. One other thing, the Ampeg cab is made with Baltic Birch Plywood. The MBC cabs, are made with [b]Medium Density Fiberboard. I finally got around to changing out to the Pearl PG on my Precision. Any new PG's around? I won't say how long I wanted to change to the Pearl.
I just bought a new 2012 Am Std P with the CS pups. At first I have to admit I was a bit disappointed with the tone. Then I put the Labella Flats on it and ooh matron..... yes, yes, yes ...best P I've had yet and I've had 6.
I agree with you. The first thing I did with my 2012 Am. Std. P was restring with the D'Addario ETB92 Nylon Tapewounds. A flat string sound in a Nylon.

I've played a good number of Am. Spl.'s. Several have a problem with the Grease-bucket electronics in them. They cut out as you play them. The last one at a local shop I tried out, was an Am. Spl. 2012 Precision, with the hand rubbed finished body. It looked great. The neck was straight, not twisted like some I've seen. It just cut out. For the $200. buckaroos, the Am. Std. is well worth the extra outlay of cash. The hardshell case runs about $140. by itself. The High-Mass bridge is an upgrade, and it also allows you to string either through the body, or straight through up top. On the Maple fretboards, they are definitely better on the Am. Std. over the Am. Spl. Like I mentioned before, the electronics parts aren't the same. I do believe the Am. Std. is one of the best current passive Fender Series Basses, not factoring in the higher priced active Am. Deluxe Series. Just my opinion.

I'm going with the Fender In-line tuners.
