1.
Or re-solder a connector cable to invert the phase - cheaper still! :-)
Bear in mind the ground would be flipped and could play merry-hell with grounding...
 2.
Would a noise gate solve this completely without cutiing out anything else?
Noise gates don't always work like that - it depends on the noise gate you have. A noise gate at it's most basic is an "open" / "closed" device - if the signal coming through is too quiet, the gate is "closed" and no sound comes through. When the sound becomes loud enough, the gate is made "open" and the sound can come through. Most of the time a gate is set so that when you are playing the instrument the gate is open and when you aren't playing the residual hum and interference is too quiet to be let through and the gate shuts. Some of the more advanced gates can act particularly on hiss but not all gates are alike.
 3. Bump on Pantherairsoft's behalf for a very cool pedal. This was originally mine but I traded it with one of Pantherairsoft's bits of kit. I realized the error of my ways and got a replacement SD-2 as soon as I could find one! When a switch is plugged into the remote socket the switch toggles between the two distortion modes (the main pedal can be set to do this as well). Best of all - it sounds great and it's relatively rare! 5. It sounds like a case of getting a decent EQ pedal (or setting the one you have up differently) and perhaps a volume pedal? They're a doddle to use on-stage. Use a Roland FV-60 myself...

 8.
At the Cardiff bass bash (which was great!) on Saturday a discussion came up about how Pj Harvey's last album only had bass (guitar) on 1 track and how we should record bass parts for the rest of the album as she had 'forgotten' to. Anyway, from this, someone mentioned that earlier in the year 3 of the top 10 billboard chart singles had no bass at all! And the reason for this is that songs are being produced and mixed for mobile phone speakers. Does this spell the end for bass players?obviously not but it's a good starting point for discussion!)
Hopefully not - but even if everyone starts listening to music on their mobiles, the number of people I see with stonking-fat bass-heavy headphones in their mobiles would suggest we have at least a decent chance

 10. Swapped pedals with Shep - great all around!
 11.
Damp is a funny thing. As long as the garage is well built and the roof doesn't leak then the humidity is likely to be less than inside a house, because warm air can hold a lot more moisture than cold air.
Uninhabited buildings tend to be drier as there isn't anyone exhaling humid air.
 12. I agree with bremen's setup - you can use the 2 channel EQ essentially as two seperate mono EQ's. Depending on the setup of your desk there shouldn't be a pressing need to pan everything hard-left. In fact if you don't you will have the added bonus of being able to compare the EQ'd left channel with the un-EQ'ed right.
 13. Bought a pedal from paul - great seller!
 14. Bought a Boss pedal from him - top bloke!
