It was a GS112 not NT The GS212 sounds smoother than a single GS112, due to the extra speaker surface area it is louder with the same amp, when combined they retain the same smooth sound but of course there is another more defined increase in volume (again if you are using the same amp). I don't own the GS112 anymore and i've never owned two to A/B the them with my GS212, I would expect them to sound different due to the construction.
