1. Just looked them up. Looks to me like the neck pickup is in the jazz position not the traditional p position. It's difficult to know how much the position will affect the tone in a mix. I'm just approaching it with the idea that my p bass works for 90% of the set so don't mess with that part, just add the bit that will give you the last 10%. Although I'm not entertaining the idea of modding my existing P. From my research so far, p bodies with or without the bridge pickup seem to be more available. I'm in no rush so could also explore that option
2. And right on que this shows up on Facebook. https://m.facebook.com/photos/viewer/?photoset_token=pcb.2070889902959748&photo=10156301313976194&profileid=100007108414334&source=48&refid=18&__tn__=EH-R Dunno if the link will work if your not part of the group. Shame I won't be able to get down that neck of the woods in the foreseeable future. EDIT: it's for sale in the marketplace aswell
3. I Wish! one thing at a time! Good shout, I've just had a look for it though and didn't see it on their site. Do you have a link? I'll be in America anyways so $34 from warmoth seems reasonable.
4. My preference is the jazz body regardless of pickups but I agree, there is something oddly satisfying about a P pickup on a J. I found the option on Warmoth for the pickguard with the P pickup in the traditional position. The Pickup rout looks closer to the end of the guard than on most Jazz basses so I assume this what I'm looking for. Does anyone have any first hand experience? I'm off to america in a few weeks so would be a good time to pick one up.
5. I'm going to start gigging again soon in a function band and I don't feel like my P bass is versatile enough. Set list is mainly rock but there are a few songs that were originally played on Jazz basses or Musicman basses (RHCP, RATM etc) and could do with some sort of replication of the iconic bass tones from the recordings. Maybe I'm overthinking it but my hobby is the production just as much as the performance. Looking at some options for later down the line and what I'd ideally like is Jazz bass with a P neck, with the P pickup in the same position as a P and then either a J or MM pickup in the bridge position. Body shape and bridge pickup choice are negotiable. I'd also like to avoid anything custom or 'boutique' as I wouldn't want to worry about it getting lost, stolen, damaged etc. I'm not against building a blista to get me through. I was just wondering if anyone had any thoughts on the following questions: Does this bass exist as a production model? (maruszczyk I am counting as custom and/or boutique) Aerodyne Jazz basses look good but I can't tell if the P Pickup is in the P position, it looks a bit close to the neck? I have read that Warmouth sell a jazz pickguard with the pickup in the correct position but I can't seem to find it on their website. There is only one but it doesn't specifically mention about the placement. Has anyone one here been through the same GAS, how did you solve it?!
6. Beautiful. Is the P pickup in the traditional P position? Or closer to the neck like most jazz basses?
7. Bought and picked up Martyn's Warwick Thumb Yesterday Pleasure to deal with, had the gear all set up and ready and had a cuppa in my hand immediately. Bass exactly as described/pictured. Honest Seller, great fella, wouldn't hesitate to do business again!
8. I love mine. I spent years trying to replace it with a Fender (snobby i know) but couldn't find one for less than £1k that even compared. I'd like another one, get a fretless board put on so I can have twins!
9. I use a drone underneath my scale/arpeggio/pattern practicing to help me spot when I am drifting out of pitch. Pitch is relative so if you are practicing without something to reference, you are only practicing staying on pitch relative to the first note you play. Having a drone behind your playing will help you spot pitch variations in your playing easier. Or at least that's the theory!
10. what size is it at the nut? What shape is the neck? Can you reload the pictures?
11. Does this have rack rails down both sides? Have you got any pictures of the internals of the case? Thanks.
12. I've had a few over the years. The first 10 years of my playing was on jazz basses. Love the feel of the necks and the tone. Once I got experienced enough in understanding where the bass fits in a mix though I started to leave the jazz basses at home and gig the with P's. Not matter how much technology I use to try and get a jazz bass to fit i the mix, it never is as easy as just plugging a p bass in. So these days, I gig with a P bass (will be putting a jazz neck on it at some point) and I've moved all my fretted jazzes on. So basically, fretless jazz for practice, fretted P for gigs/Studio sessions.
13. I've been living in Manhattan fir the past 3 months and I can fully understand how the way scott endlessly sells himself and his product goes down better over here. The level of advertising and marketing over here is on another level to what us simple folk are used to.The american market is a lot more accustomed to being hit in the face with high frequency advertisements and product placements. To be honest, scotts self promotion is very modest compared to some of the stuff you see over here. He is obviously a very smart businessman and understands that the american market is a lot bigger than the UK hence his business model and production values are geared towards americans. I would imagine that american production values are more transferable internationally than the more modest british approach.
14.
I don't have an axe to grind as far as Scott is concerned but you can see how the *youtube channel promotion machine" is influencing his output; like many other youtubers. Obviously there are huge amounts of money to be made and why shouldn't he?
Fair play to the guy, I couldn't do it. For me, it's the constant barrage of e-mails and americanisms that let the product down for me. I'm one of those miserable sods who gets annoyed by people who are always happy! I've learned so much already from the academy. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it. As a businessman and a bassist, he is an inspiring individual.
15. I've only recently started following scott, I've actually signed up to the academy when the offer came through by e-mail. My issue is i'm getting constant spam e-mails from a chap from leeds: "This is totally awesome" "We've got an amazing community" "Take your playing to the next level" "Super excited to have you join our team" etc, etc As an adopted yorkshireman, I'd prefer just a quick note once a week which reads: "ey up lad, this weeks content is reight. have a gander ...." and none of all this american styled propaganda. Completely satisfied with the academy so far though. I'm just going to have to set an auto junk rule on his e-mails.
16. Bump ... cheap as chips. Pics here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/689090051102626/permalink/1451871498157807/?sale_post_id=1451871498157807
17. If this is the bass I played when I purchased the cab from Lee (I think it is) then I can testify to its playability, tone and build. It's a great instrument. I had to very much show some restraint when Lee tried to flog it to me! I don't know what's better, Lee's playing, his basses or his personality, they're all great. Deal with confidence with Lee. Can't believe this hasn't gone yet!
18. Fully functional but there is some visable cosmetic wear. I'm away from home for a week so can't get pictures till I'm back. Priced to sell! Only trades I would consider is a bartolini jazz neck pickup [s]or a 2u flight case[/s]. P&p at buyers expense. Pickup from huddersfield. Will deliver if not too far.
19. Yep, I sold for the exact same reason. Then bought the black one and it was much lighter . Then I sold that and bought something else .....
20. Does anyone know if the neck pockets are consistent between Squier VM and CV models? I want to put a jazz neck on my CV P bass. Just looking at options. It pains me because I haven't wanted to mod the P bass got the 5 years I own it because it plays so well. I'm worried it will never be the same again! But I'm finally accepting that the neck shape isn't working for me. I'm a jazz neck guy, always have been.
21. I'm interested as I am looking to move to five strings. I'm out of the UK for another 3 weeks though. Would be great to play if we find ourselves near each other though!
