1. Just had a very pleasant and efficient transaction with Paul, buying his EHB1005SMS. He kindly scoped out postage and insurance for me, excellent communication throughout and the item arrived as described (once I'd got through the two boxes, many air cushions, gig bag and bubblewrap!) Many thanks! Chris
2. Bought a couple of pedals from Si, they were dispatched rapidly and arrived well packaged + as described - many thanks!
3. Crystal is a very good free synth. For drums worth looking at Mydrumsetrocks. If your looking for a variety of sounds then Native Instruments allow you to download Kontact (I think that's the name) Player for free which comes with 400mb or so of their sounds which are top notch.
4.
If you've got a normal dell PC, then I wouldnt really recommend doing PC recordings because of lag, etc.
I would disagree with that, you can record on a PC with quite modest specs. Latency shouldn't be a big problem in this situation. I have a 1.5 Ghz laptop that can handle 2 channels in, through vsts and out without any noticeable latency. It's only when you are monitoring live like this that the latency will play a part.
5. This week I am based near Guildford, Surrey however next week I will be in Camden. Both of those are a long way from Manchester but I could easily post.
6. OK bump from the past, have just started renting a place at uni and need a bit of cash to buy cutlery etc.
7. This was how it looked in September, before I went to uni. Have since sold: OLP, cabs, head, FW410 soundcard and synth! Now my rig is pretty much this:
8.
I have been using it and it is good, one of the best features is it will work as a standalone product so its worth trying if you are not into computer DAW's as you can use your PC / Laptop for practice with headphones. It has a full suite of effects including phasers, flangers, chorus, distortion along with compression and although only 1 bass amp is featured the guitar amps are good for bass and there is a multitude of cabs. In addition to this it has a "player" that you load a backing track into to play along with and you can bring another player up to record yourself. Certainly worth £5.99
Ah yes, I run it standalone or in Ableton Live as my practice rig. The player deck is killer, really useful to slow things down and the loop function is handy too. Makes it hard to justify something like one of those tascam units..
9. See the article on this page about Guitar Rig LE free in Computer Music. That is a really good deal and a cracking piece of amp modelling software. Get something like the stealthplug interface and that and you would be sorted.
10. Blimey that's a great deal! Especially as LE contains the only bass amp model. Tthe only difference between it and the full version for bass players is therefore really in the effects department but there are other VSTs that are free and can deliver there.
11. The first part is worth watching too http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9LpB1E4EE7k...feature=related I wonder how typical this is and would be especially interested in Fender/Squire? Interesting to look at the Behringer factory tour videos http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NqUGLUJF7y4 Obviously the company let them have access so wouldn't show anything bad but still it does look very impressive.
12.
Ive also heard the JBL one series are good for monitoring in a simlar vein.
Hmm if it's the Control 1s you are referring to I am not so sure, fine for everyday listening but I find their low end, or lack there of, really annoying. Still very cheap and robust
On the question of monitors, true monitors are not good for actually listening to music, they are tools. Hifi speakers are coloured to make all music sound good.
I understand what you are saying but here is an interesting article on the matter of Hifi vs Monitors One Two
13. For under £100 perhaps try the Tannoy F1 Custom from Richer Sounds (£90). Apparently, and I say that as I haven't had the chance to judge myself, according to the SOS forum there is little to distinguish entry level hi-fi and monitors. I am after a nice pair of speakers to reproduce the sound I get when I practice through headphones using guitar rig, so many choices I haven't a clue what to go for!
14. Lovely bass! There is something about the feel of a a Jaguar that is so much nicer than that of a jazz.
15. This used to belong to me. Nicely made piece of kit although I only used one jack input and the headphones hence the reason for selling it. One thing worth mentioning is the software mixer for this is really good. Runs in the system tray and allows your to route various hardware and software inputs to outputs, thus you can monitor directly with zero latency. Also good for sending a click to one of the other outputs and then mixing some into the headphone feed whilst leaving the main outs untouched.
