I'm happy to faff about cutting cardboard to pack a bass. It's not hard. The last cardboard I got, I lifted out of a skip at the back of Mothercare. I didn't ask, but I'd be amazed if they got upset. IMHO the more prized contribution to packing a bass is the bubble-wrap. I get loads with the stuff my company ships out to me, but where do others get it from? Or do you always sell a bass with a case? Otherwise, what-else do you do to protect the bass inside the cardboard? (I too should get some work done too now )
Yes. Found the bits, just not sure if it's something I can manage or if it's feasible as the stacked pot looks like it might be part of the board
If the pot is on a PCB (printed circuit board) then you may well need a solder sucker to remove the old solder and to remove the pot. After that the new pot should slot straight in and you then simply re-solder all the legs. We don't know what your soldering skills are like, but it shouldn't be too hard.

If you were a seller of instruments would you want to support a market in second-hand instruments? Isn't it possible for them to see every used bass you sell a a lost sale for them? I doubt they get paid for cardboard boxes. It's more likely that they pay to have it taken away.

He did mostly play a 4 string though http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iPMykMtOoXk
I've currently got a TE combo with Mal - really nice fella with years of experience repairing electricals. He repaired my niece's husbands TE guitar amp for a very reasonable price - I'll update this post when I collect the amp.
I took that amp to him and got it back "no fault found". He was honest about that. It turned out the over-heating was due to a bad amp lead making a poor connection.
Aside from the fact that Jack Bruce did not play fretted Warwicks or FNA models that I'v heard of, £8,500?!!
Have you seen this one at the Gallery? http://thebassgallery.com/index.php/bass/fretless/warwick-thumb-fretless-5-string.html Somehow I expect this one IS genuine.

Today I sold a Westone Thunder 1A to Max. It's been good to deal with him. Good communication and fast payment. He's new and seems like a really good guy. Thanks Max!

Funny how they also only seem to be able to muster 1 photograph of the bass.

How many BassChatters have never ever gigged?
Grangur replied to thebrig's topic in General Discussion
On the subject of bedroom warriors, the only criticism levelled the them tends to be when they seem to have all the answers but no experience to back it up. There's nothing wrong with staying at home but when they start giving out advice on what gear to use, settings to use in a band context, what music to play, and the miriad of other advice frequently dished out with obviously no experience of it in real life to back it up, it gets a bit silly. Warrior, to me, is a term used to imply you're fighting a cause. Bedroom warrior implies a certain type of individual. .
Hey! I resemble that remark! (I hope not) -

Grangur replied to thebrig's topic in General Discussion
I think it's easy to jump to the conclusion here that a "bedroom noodler" is happy to be exactly that. I would love to gig. I get bored and fed up playing stuff in musical scores. I dream of playing in a band. Bach's Cello stuff is NOT what I want to do. I never did. On the other hand, what is more sad, playing Bach and developing reading skills, or playing old covers bass lines along with a band on an MP3 who will never notice if I stop as they already have a bass player on the track. Whatever you reconsider is the answer to that question, I can't get the old Beatles track out of my head; "He's a real nowhere man, sitting in his nowhere land making all his nowhere plans for nobody". No, I'm not happy with my lot. Geek also isn't happy with his lot too on the odd day, same as a few others here. But we have made our bed and we lie in it. As for me I'm craps at playing. I'm getting quite good at fixing basses up though and it makes a good distraction from the playing. Sorry for the rant. I'm not really upset. I just feel this needs to be clear to some who may make assumptions. Thank you all for being a great bunch of people. -
I don't know how accurate the measurement of 4x1.5 is but most pups sizes are shown on sites I'm millimetres. I guess you probably know this, but it's a fine line between having a gap and needing to get a router on the job. Kent Armstrong do reasonably priced soapbars. But the size is 101mm x 38mm http://www.wdmusic.co.uk/electronics-c17/kent-armstrong-guitar-pickups-c100/kent-armstrong-bass-pickups-c101/claymore-soapbar-bass-pu-4-or-5-string-bass-pickup-p703 I guess the selection process is very subjective and potentially expensive. IMHO Nordstrand would be bang on the money for rock or metal, but not cheap.
That's a bargain. GLWTS!
The last time I sold a Thunder it was in almost mint condition and it sold on Evilbay for £225 plus carriage. Regrettably the prices of these seem to have come down a lot. But this is certainly a lot of bass for the money. I got it for a good price with no strings and not working. I've fixed it up but with changing few parts. My trouble is I collect basses to do up. I love doing it. I simply don't have the space to keep them all. -
So here goes a really nice example of a Westone Thunder 1A from the Matsumoku factory in Japan. This is a great piece of history, but I'd let it go for £125. This is a precision bass with original DiMarzio pickups; with adjustable cores to the pickups, to allow you to adjust the sound to your taste. This is an active bass and the electrics are the originals with the exception of the battery connectors and switches, which I've replaced. The switches and pots all work well. There's no buckle rash on the back, but it does have scars from a long life of use. That said, this bass has few, if any bare patches though the lacquer. I've leveled and crowned the frets, The strings are good and it's nicely set up. The weight of this is about "medium" really. It weighs 4.3Kg. That's 9.48lb in old money. It sits well on the strap without any neck dive and doesn't break your back. Thanks for looking. The pics aren't the greatest. I might try to get some better ones soon. If you want pics of anything in particular just post below and I'll be pleased to get you the best ones I can. For those reading in black and white, I live on the Herts/Essex border but do travel about and might be able to deliver. I'm also happy to ship it by UPS at cost. Payment by cash or bank transfer prefered. No trades right now thanks. More pictures can be found here:

I try to always give feedback. I also don't object to being prompted if I forget, but I seldom read feedback threads before agreeing a sale or purchase. I even trust buyer's being honest when they say they've paid to my bank account. There's many a time I've booked a courier for the goods before checking. Never been caught out yet.

P-Bass pot buzz. Wiring? Earthing? Fault?
Grangur replied to LukeGTE's topic in Repairs and Technical
Yes, I'm just thinking you want to eliminate the chance that it's not the bass, but something else that's causing it. Screening won't hurt though. -

Grangur replied to LukeGTE's topic in Repairs and Technical
Hmmm... Is this your only bass? Do you have other basses which, when connected to the same amp set-up don't buzz? If you're not sure, take your bass down the road to a mate and try it. Otherwise, take it to a shop and "try an amp". See if it buzzes there. I have a Warwick Corvette that buzzes nicely every time the washing machine or microwave are being used. -
Cheers Gelfin will give those 2 places a call. Grangur thanks for the offer! Ideally i'd like to tinker myself and learn how to fix the problems but only having one bass at the moment i don't want to run the risk of making things worse! haha.
Then get down to Maplin and get some contact cleaner spray, and spray some in all the open holes you can see in the pots and get watching the videos on how to do a set up. Now's the best time to learn. Post back here with any questions! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=te44eWXd9pc&list=PL9C05D39374BFA9B1&index=5
